To not give in & clean the kitchen, before environmental health is called

DH & I agreed months ago that he would be responsible for cleaning the kitchen & bathroom, I would do the rest of the house and the laundry.

I have given in and cleaned those two rooms a couple of times (just before visitors were expected). BUT I am getting sick of it.

MIL is coming for the weekend and even I can't bear the kitchen any more in it's current state.

How much nagging is OK and what deadline should I give him.

There is nothing wrong with paid help in your house. I have a cleaner but I don't get her to do anything I wouldn't do myself as I think everyone should be capable of mucking themselves out, even Xenia.

Swedes - agree. And it's a very bad example for children to see grot being dealt with only by paid help - what happens when they grow up and have to fend for themselves befor they can afford a cleaner?

My cleaning has been revolutionised by the purchase of a Roomba robot. He's called Bob (daughter's suggestion) and he loves hoovering so much that when I push his little button he sings a happy little tune.

All I need now is for him to tell me I'm beautiful and wonderful and I think I'd run away with him.

Exactly 'Swedes'. I have a cleaner for 2 hours a week to ensure that everywhere gets hoovered and dusted. I am extremely allergic to dustmite and therefore dusting etc is very unpleasant. However, I clean the bathrooms and anything really grimy and also ensure house is tidy for the cleaner so that she doesn't waste her time. With a dog in the house, I am hoovering between the cleaner's visits anyway, but her presence just ensures that the bulk is done regularly.
