Live in a seaside town. The Rock point quarter is a new development regenerating my local high street. I live here with children as do many others. Why do they need to see this and what's the message?
I think it's disgusting, my daughter asked why his toothbrush was that colour. Little primary children don't need to see this coming out of their street every day. I'm just disgusted.

Really? With all of the horrors and atrocities happening in the world right now you're 'disgusted' by this? Confused

Mandalay246 · 03/08/2021 20:38

It's unusual, but "disgusted" Confused It really wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 03/08/2021 20:43

Calm down Helen.

You would never get this in West Kirby.

bowlerhattedbear · 03/08/2021 20:57

OP you are new to NB then? Seriously I would rather have ten of these "edgy" artworks than how we used to be. This area is not just for you but for teens, young people and everyone else - have you complained about other graffiti artists too? Go back to West Kirby and clutch your pearls elsewhere

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 03/08/2021 20:58

Well, I'm sure it's a participatory art installation so I'd encourage your children to take some paint thinner and interact with it.

It will turn it into a piece about the impermanence of public art, and the ways in which a rising generation of young artists modifies their own streetscape to reflect their lived experience.

The Wirral wars are starting here😂

People find anything to be offended by.

I don't know which side to be on!! I grew up in Moreton but I've made my home in New Brighton! WHO DO I FIGHT FOR???
bowlerhattedbear · 03/08/2021 21:06

OP this is part of a series of artworks in NB - and show how regeneration is happening - why not frame it as such rather than pinpoint one image. Anyone not familiar with area - this building is being renovated and the MM murals are everywhere. Not a fan of Weatherspoon's or Disney to be honest and perhaps OP needs to ask what the artist is saying - that's the point of it

@Houseofvelour NB every time

GreenTortoise · 03/08/2021 21:11

Your primary aged child has never seen anyone with a cigarette out and about? Even walking outside?

I was actually really shocked to realise that my 6yo didn't know what cigarettes were. During home learning there was a worksheet about healthy lifestyle choices, and he had no idea.

I guess it's maybe not that unusual now. Unless there is someone among your friends and family who smokes, then you only really see it outside pubs and at bus stops now? Neither of which my 6yo spends much time at.

notagermannoun · 03/08/2021 21:23

Doesn't look much worse than some of the villainous characters from comics that I read as a child. YABU. Swearwords and sexualised images are offensive to kids. They will see worse OP.

Tabitha005 · 03/08/2021 21:24

Massive marketing fail as no-one seems to know what it's advertising or raising awareness of.

owlbethere · 03/08/2021 21:30

I like it 🤷🏼‍♀️

JustJustWhy · 03/08/2021 21:30

Thank goodness your child wasn't alive in the time of the Bright Spot or the Golden Goose where the air was thick with cigarette smoke or the unsafe fairground across the road where I ended up getting stitches. New Brighton's okay but it's hardly the Home Counties...

HarrisMcCoo · 03/08/2021 21:32

I thought it was a new McDonald's opening up before I clicked on the thread 🤣

I think that's brilliant.

Really hope cigarettes are outlawed by the time mine are old enough t buy them.

I did have a neighbour's child in my house a while back who looked at the coal beside the fireplace and asked what it was!

This isn't marketing, it's graffiti, it's just the sanatised anti establishment side of work, you don't need to understand or like it, but being offended and 'disgusted' by it, so much so that some are even unironically saying to tweet Disney corp is bordering on Mary Whitehouse levels of censorship.
