AIBU to feel disgusted walking past this with my children.

Live in a seaside town. The Rock point quarter is a new development regenerating my local high street. I live here with children as do many others. Why do they need to see this and what's the message?
I think it's disgusting, my daughter asked why his toothbrush was that colour. Little primary children don't need to see this coming out of their street every day. I'm just disgusted.

I have no idea what this is about. Is it supposed to be Micky Mouse? I would never have guessed. Not offensive , just unusual.

I don't think Disney would be too impressed with that, they're really hot on copyright. A report to them would likely see it removed quickly

Offensive?! You must've led rather a sheltered life.

Well offensive can mean causing someone to feel annoyed. And that's what it does when I walk past it 🤷🏼‍♀️

It's by an artist Tom Blackford.

Here's a bit from his FB. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it's not disgusting and art is supposed to divide opinion.

It’s a reasonably ugly piece of art. Not sure why you’d worry about children seeing it really.

I wouldn't even give it a second glance. Its graffiti art not offensive

Oh come on it's not that bad! I was expecting sex and violence not halloween Mickey Grin

That's quite sinister. If I had to walk past that with my 4 yo I would try to find an alternative route!

Your kids are going to see a lot of different things in the future so let them get used to seeing something and deciding for themselves if they like ot or not!

It's pretty horrid and I don't 'get it' at all. I wouldn't worry about my children's futures because of it but would shudder and think, oh how ghastly, every time I walked past it. It doesn't quite capture the tone of 'regeneration' in my opinion but I'm an art idiot so who knows.

I mean, it's ugly to look at it but it's hardly offensive.

I don't think I'd be offended but is nasty and really tacky. I'm surprised a kids cartoon character with a fag is OK with anyone official rather than it just being graffiti. I'm normally very much not one of the morally outraged. But yeah this is a bit dodge.

It's just art.

O expected something soft porny!

That wouldn't bother me tbh

It sits on a crossing as well so when you leave the house with toddlers and little children you're stood staring at it and crossing towards it. It's not just a glance.
I don't see how a children's tv character with a cigarette in its mouth isn't offensive to children. I thought we had a better attitude to smoking than that. Miffed at how many wouldn't have a problem with it and are like "oh art Hmm".

It's quite well done tbh

It’s called MickeyScouse. Is it trying to represent Liverpudlians? Surely that is offensive.

It seems quite ugly if it’s meant to be in an area that’s being regenerated.

Not worrying about the children's futures. I just think it's grim they have that to look at in their street.

Kids see people smoking all the time though

@landmarklotto

It's graffiti so not a poster.

I'm unsure as to the meaning.

It's not actually on the side of a wetherspoons. Although there's one a few minutes away. It's not on the side of a pub. The building is being turned into a supermarket. And the graffiti appeared recently. Professionally done. As part of the regeneration.

There's one of these near me actually! I wonder if we're in the same place. I was wondering if the place is being turned into a Wetherspoons, or an 'alternative supermarket' or something (although have no idea what that would be!)
