Live in a seaside town. The Rock point quarter is a new development regenerating my local high street. I live here with children as do many others. Why do they need to see this and what's the message?
I think it's disgusting, my daughter asked why his toothbrush was that colour. Little primary children don't need to see this coming out of their street every day. I'm just disgusted.

There are hundreds of posters I see regularly that bother me more than this poster.

me4real · 04/08/2021 18:18

I don't see the point of a 'regeneration' containing graffiti of something scabby. That's not regeneration.

LimitIsUp · 04/08/2021 20:42

Meh, the world doesn't revolve around little kids

ohthatbloodycat · 04/08/2021 22:41

The toothbrush comment made me laugh!
I couldn't get worked up over this, in all honesty.

DarlingFell · 04/08/2021 22:45

It’s a mouse 🤷🏻‍♀️

Huge overreaction 😂

@FolkyFoxFace

It's in New Brighton isn't it? It's hardly a glorious seaside town these days! 😂 You're telling me your daughter doesn't know what a cigarette is and you live on the Wirral? It's not exactly a haven. I'm over the water in Liverpool and am under no illusions that it's a pretty little city. It's just some graffiti. Well done for what it is, too.
Actually it is a really pretty seaside town. I know there are some rather deprived areas of liverpool but we spent a fortune to live here. And we chose it for its quaint seaside vibes. I live in a large period property on the same street as this painting and it really isn't in keeping with the regeneration of the area.

There's a nice chip shop in New Brighton on the front 😋

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 05/08/2021 21:31

I'm really pleased that the world doesn't solely cater to the sensibilities of tiny children and their professionally offended parents.

I mean imagine your child seeing something unpleasant - however will they cope?!

OR maybe stuff like this is part of the fabric of life, sometimes kids get upset, c'est la vie, all part of honing out coping mechanisms.

You could see it as a golden opportunity to teach children that some things are targeted towards adults and adult humour. The end. Trauma over. You're welcome

FolkyFoxFace · 06/08/2021 03:03

@landmarklotto if you thought New Brighton was quaint, you obviously aren't acquainted with the area! It's well known for being a very run down and forgotten place. The arcade, the rubbish castle that hasn't changed since the 90s...it's not what you're making it out to be.

I go to New Brighton beach a few times a month with the dogs. I'm not quite sure which quaint vibes or booming regeneration you're on about.

ghostyslovesheets · 06/08/2021 10:26

New Brighton is improving but it is far from quaint - it’s no where near as rough as it was in the 80’s and 90’s and had some lovely bars and restaurants now but it had a loooong way to go to get to quaint!

That said I took a big gang of my mates from down south there a few weeks ago for my birthday and they all loved the place - including the art works - so much so we are all coming back next year

Ginger89 · 06/08/2021 11:39

I know which one I’d prefer to see Confused

@landmarklotto

Well offensive can mean causing someone to feel annoyed. And that's what it does when I walk past it 🤷🏼‍♀️
No it doesn’t. That’s not offence. People are annoyed when the train is late or if the traffic lights at a junction are not working. It is not offensive. The graffiti is ugly but you need to get a grip and stop calling it offensive.
sofiegiraffe · 06/08/2021 11:56

I think it's disgusting, my daughter asked why his toothbrush was that colour.

His toothbrush? I don't see a toothbrush. I couldn't get worked up about this I'm afraid.

sofiegiraffe · 06/08/2021 11:57

@Mockolate

I've had to read through all 10 pages to try and get an idea why it's offensive and something the kids shouldn't see as was completely baffled! This? This is why?! Because the mouse is smoking?! For crying out loud lol Now I know why at the beginning of some programmes there's a warning "may contain tobacco depictions" me Hmm Now I know why - because MN will get a fit of the vapours and come over all Maude Flanders like Grin
😂
Omgjo · 06/08/2021 14:21

I live here too.

You do know its not part of the regeneration though don't you?

It's a dig at spoons for keeping laceys empty and run down for so many years, the fact they're money grabbing sods and that all its doing to the area is attracting hermits for the cheap ale and distracting from the actual regeneration.

This is one of many that keep being done - it will be painted over soon enough.

bowlerhattedbear · 06/08/2021 21:05

@landmarklotto New Brighton isn't Liverpool. Anyone who lived here or Merseyside would know that. So sorry that you are having to pay lots to live in area that is pricing out thousands of locals - perhaps move back to somewhere where you don't have all the advantages of a large property, wonderful scenery and a proud heritage and nothing to affront your sensitivities. Seriously you are what gives "newcomers" (to any town) a bad name. Understand local history and frigging geography before posting about stuff - you are an absolute shambles!

Surely most of the point of life is improving it for the ones that come after us.

So is this art actually. It's an activism art or however you could call it and I think it hit right with the message...

ShitPoetryClub · 06/08/2021 21:29

Thornton Hough is quaint. New Brighton is erm gritty.
I quite like the picture.

ZednotZee · 06/08/2021 22:06

If New Brighton is gritty you best not step over the bridge in to the North end. The tarmac might assault you Grin

The Secret Society of Super Villain Artists. Disgusted? Really? Allow me to turn your attention to the daily news where there is plenty of real stuff to disgust you. Lots to choose from, take your pick.

I know it's not liverpool. Another poster said they were from liverpool. To use the same tone you did with me, learn to read before commenting.

Really missed the point.

No, it doesn't... but that doesn't mean people can't express their feelings about it. Alongside every right to cause offense is the equal right to feel offended.
