AIBU?

AIBU to feel disgusted walking past this with my children.

Live in a seaside town. The Rock point quarter is a new development regenerating my local high street. I live here with children as do many others. Why do they need to see this and what's the message?
I think it's disgusting, my daughter asked why his toothbrush was that colour. Little primary children don't need to see this coming out of their street every day. I'm just disgusted.

Where is the toothbrush?

@myrtleWilson I fully agree with everything you've said there. Just not the cigarette in mickeys mouth.
I didn't even mind the three bellends.
But this just doesn't even fit with the area and looks grim.

HalzTangz every kid I know (and knew, as a former dinnerlady) would have known instantly it was Mickey. They even know the brand from a black silhouette of 3 circles.

@NiceGerbil yeah I wouldn’t be impressed with that one catching my five year olds eye. That’s some proper nightmare fuel.

It looks so awful and would’ve frightened me as a child! I was quite a sensitive soul and that looks awful! I wouldn’t be impressed walking my 3 yo DS past that.

I agree OP- it's awful and should be in adult environment. Children might unfortunately be exposed to smokers but that doesn't mean it's OK to normalise it, using cartoon characters. It's also ugly. I might be a bit dim, but whatever the message is it's lost on me.

Huge overreaction. Just ignore it.

Since your dc thought a cigarette is a toothbrush, just tell her if she doesn't brush her teeth, that's what happens.

It reminds me a bit of 'Dismaland'. By the time Disney got round to issuing a cease and desist, it had all been dismantled.

I don't think it's offensive. You wouldn't want it on your wall, but it's not offensive.

You should see some of the stuff my six year old grandson draws. Dark doesn't even cover it.

HalzTangz

My kids are older but there was a horrific prog called Mickey mouse clubhouse on when they were little.

I still remember that fucking song.

@Houseofvelour it's such a lovely area for young families isn't it.

Miffed at how many wouldn't have a problem with it and are like "oh art hmm".

Meh. Raising hands here. I think it looks a bit shit and the message is not clear so it’s unsuccessful as well as looking a bit shit, and yes, breach of copyright but really - it’s not scarring or awful for kids or whatever.

I mean, if you’d taken them to Disneyland and that Mickey greeted you then yeah, I get your point. But it’s street art on a random building.

Disney will not like that AT ALL. Take a photo and send it here support.disney.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005422546-How-can-I-report-piracy-or-copyright-infringement- saying when and where you saw it

It is a lovely area but its hardly the MC utopia often described on MN.

So I think you can put your pearls away.

For context there is quite a lot of tasteful graffiti in the area as part of a regeneration project. Some people have even agreed to have it emblazoned across the gable end of their properties and it looks really good tbf.

This is just one bad example amongst an area which tends to celebrate this type of thing.

So everyone would be happy if their nursery read the children a picture book with this character in? Or would we think a cigarette smoking mouse inappropriate?

It’s a public space not an art gallery. It needs to work for everyone.

Has Lacy's bar down the road been sorted now? Because that's where the mickey first appeared. I think this is continuation of the Wetherspoon thing

I have absolutely no idea what this means or is about! Regeneration to me means Dr Who!

It's a pretty ugly poster. I wouldn't like walking past that each day.

But I would have discussed it with my kid rather than post here.

I'm a bit confused, it's a mouse with a cigarette, mice don't wear clothes or smoke, do no bad influence on anyone
