AIBU?

AIBU to feel disgusted walking past this with my children.

Live in a seaside town. The Rock point quarter is a new development regenerating my local high street. I live here with children as do many others. Why do they need to see this and what's the message?
I think it's disgusting, my daughter asked why his toothbrush was that colour. Little primary children don't need to see this coming out of their street every day. I'm just disgusted.

I get more fucked off by stuff like that perfume poster years ago that had undertones of gang rape.

Or the TFL poster that as an adult I found disturbing.

There's loads of stuff you might not want your kids to see everywhere.

You talk to them about things they see and may not understand/ find scary/ get a dodgy message from.

Its horrid but no more so than an endless list of other things you can see every day - eg the 10 masks I saw abandoned on the pavement on my walk just now.

Now this fucked me off.

She's not smoking though so maybe not so bad after all!

It is ugly and unpleasant. Mickey mouse with a cigarette isn't a nice image anyway without the grime. Kids love Mickey and I can see why they'd be confused or upset. Those that can't contemplate seeing it through the eyes of a 4 year old fan rather than an art critic can't have much imagination.

Not sure what you can do other than report to Disney, the council and the local paper.

Apart from it being really ugly just what does it mean?

Scumeration not regeneration

Oh okay - so part of the regeneration aim is to bring independents into the areas. Another of his mickeyscouse pieces of work is a super hero vibe celebrating the arrival of an anti super supermarket.

This one with Mickey in the wetherspoons jail mugshot is a reference to the council covering up a previous Mickey piece at the behest of Wetherspoons. So its an anti establishment, corporate greed, councils in the pockets of the big boys type theme. Actually I think promoting the need for locally owned independent shops/outlets/restaurants rather than chain upon chain is a good aim & one that you could engage primary school children with...

If it’s meant to be Mickey Mouse - it clearly is - Disney will not be impressed. They are ruthless with protecting copyright, but also their wholesome image.

God I feel for Mickey.

Having to sing that Mickey mouse clubhouse song all the time.

I'm not surprised he's gone off the rails.

Definitely report to Disney!

It's not the best street art I've seen, and I can't understand what the message is supposed to be, but it's not disgusting. I thought you would be talking about real porn.

Yes this sort of thing.

There was a nice picture of Mickey and the rich pub chain made them cover it up.

Lots of people were really annoyed and so that's why the horrible picture of Mickey is there. Because they were angry.

I live one road up from that and have to get my kids to look at something else each time we walk past. I'm happy it's going to be an anti-supermarket though.

People complained about a piece of graffiti art local to me because a cowboy was holding a gun. The artist retouched it to show bubbles coming from the barrel. People complain about the silliest things. I mean, this one is ugly, sure, but it’s not something to get disgusted or all “angry people in local newspapers” about.

I'd be surprised if any toddlers/pre schoolers even know who Mickey is, let's face it he's not all over kids TV. Now if it was Elsa that would be another story

@HalzTangz are you joking? I don't know a single child who doesn't know Mickey and Minnie.

4 feet 8 inches is tall for a mouse isn't it? Although that's including his ears.

Could be worse: his page shows another mural of a crazed Mickey with sharp teeth, running after someone with a bloody knife.

I'm not shocked (nor offended), but it's pretty appalling on an aesthetic level.

I don't know any preschooler who does know Mickey, all I ever hear children nowadays talk about Disney wise is frozen

I can't say that I like it, but I just find it ugly rather thatn offensive. I don't think I would even pay it any attention because it just doesn't attract me to look at it in the slightest.
