To use previous guest's Netflix login in holiday home...

So we arrived on Saturday at our rented cottage in Suffolk for a weeks holiday.

Dear children on browsing the television found the Netflix button and found it to have an account linked to it. We have logged in and watched various programmes

Are we being unreasonable to login an use the account to watch? It seems to be a previous guest's as they dont relate to the owner (and cottage is not advertised as having Netflix) so I guess technically we are breaking terms and conditions, would they have received notification that we were using it?

@burnoutbabe

i am not sure its theft as there is no intention to permanently deprive the owner of anything. The owner can still use it/kick out the other users to free it up for them.

It may well be some other crime but i am struggling to think of what,

Anyway, all that will happen is owner will spot a random show on their watch list, realsie they left it logged in at cottage, kick everyone out and thats it.

The current poster doesn't know it belongs to the previous guests, it could well come with the cottage and people in the past have changed the names to random user names.

It’s so not “a crime”.

999 - Emergency, what service, please?

You - Police!

999 - Can you explain what’s happened?

You - Someone’s using my Netflix password.

You can claim ignorance and say you assumed it was included in the let if it was left logged in. They'll probably notice when they can see recently watched, all they need to do is change the password, it's not costing them anything extra anyway.

@PalmsandCharms

Would you like it if the boot was on the other foot?
I wouldn't care, personally, I'd think it was my own fault for not logging off!
Nisse1 · 03/08/2021 11:13

This happened to us. I didn't notice for ages until they created their own profile Grin Didn't get worked up about it though, just logged our account out.

Abraxan · 03/08/2021 11:13

If the previous guests had left their clothes there, would you wear them ?

No, but if they'd left their books there I might read them.
Or use their left over washing up liquid/dishwasher tabs.
Or use an umbrella they've left in the hallway.
Or I'd let children use the inflatables they may have left behind in the pool.

PheasantsNest · 03/08/2021 11:13

You are being very cheeky. They will be able to see what you are watching.

Skyla2005 · 03/08/2021 11:13

I wouldn't worry atall. Just say you thought it was provided by the owners but no one will ask anything

Skyla2005 · 03/08/2021 11:14

Omg Hmm
Mindymomo · 03/08/2021 11:14

We had the same at a holiday home. We were expecting to log in ourselves, but found either the owner to previous visitors left it logged on. We did watch a couple of films that were obviously free.

M4J4 · 03/08/2021 11:15

Meh, this wouldn't worry me. My fault for not logging out.

Jangle33 · 03/08/2021 11:16

Everyone knows you log off at end of the holiday, it’s their own fault and I’d not worry at all it’s only for a week.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 03/08/2021 11:16

Lol, reminds me of the old days when people got twitchy about guests using their wifi.
I have used others, no doubt they have used mine. It doesn't bother me. I change the password every do often. If it bothered Netflix, they could just force us all to reset weekly.

WiFi I wouldn't be happy with someone using. Something locked down like netflix where you can't do anything untoward wouldn't be arsed.
TerrifiedandWorried · 03/08/2021 11:17

This happened to us last year. Also Suffolk (weird). It was really annoying because it lost DD's place on several series.

TerrifiedandWorried · 03/08/2021 11:18

And it felt weirdly intrusive, we have silly in jokes as the account names.

Blackberrybunnet · 03/08/2021 11:19

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

If genre were books and games in a holiday lodge I'd assume they belonged to the lodge. Not a previous guest
That. And also what squigglet said.
Jumpingintosummer · 03/08/2021 11:22

Hardly a big deal, could easily be the cottages own log in.

Leaving your Netflix logged in at a holiday cottage then someone else using it is NOT a crime, give over!
Elphame · 03/08/2021 11:31

It may well be there for guest use.

We don’t advertise we have a Netflix account for the holiday let. It’s always good to deliver more than the guests were expecting.

Branleuse · 03/08/2021 11:32

they would be able to tell, but it wouldnt cost them anything, so I wouldnt overthink it. If I left my netflix logged in somewhere I wouldnt care unless I wasnt allowed to log in myself, and then id change the password

Fernando072020 · 03/08/2021 11:36

This is cheap and well cheeky of you. Sign out and buy your own!

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 03/08/2021 11:39

I'd be slightly pissed off if someone used my Netflix account, DD would be apoplectic because she's a bit precious about her account, she doesn't want suggestions for things she's not interested in. Hmm

RevolvingPivot · 03/08/2021 11:40

I wouldn't notice anyone using our log in. We can have 5 watching at once and we all use each others so I wouldn't know if it was a family member or random user. But I've not used it in a public place.

SoupDragon · 03/08/2021 11:48

Are we being unreasonable to login an use the account to watch?

Did you pay for the account? If not, then of course it is unreasonable.

eightyfourandahalf · 03/08/2021 11:48

what harm does it do? None.

So YANBU

just be ready to be logged out when the noticed, not a big deal.
