To use previous guest's Netflix login in holiday home...

So we arrived on Saturday at our rented cottage in Suffolk for a weeks holiday.

Dear children on browsing the television found the Netflix button and found it to have an account linked to it. We have logged in and watched various programmes

Are we being unreasonable to login an use the account to watch? It seems to be a previous guest's as they dont relate to the owner (and cottage is not advertised as having Netflix) so I guess technically we are breaking terms and conditions, would they have received notification that we were using it?

I'd carry on if I were you, I'm chuckling at some of these responses, peop!e do get het up.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 03/08/2021 10:47

Had someone do this with my phone service some years ago.

Completely different, as your phone service didn't come with unlimited free long-distance calls.

TooWicked · 03/08/2021 10:48

Crack on watching, and if you’ve any good recommendations please post them, I need a new series to get into.

WorriedWishingWell · 03/08/2021 10:48

@VeganVeal

Its theft, pure and simple
It's not because it's not permanently depriving the owner
girlmama32 · 03/08/2021 10:49

Yes yabu, how is this even a question? it's theft because it's someone else's account that they are paying for and you don't have permission to use. It's literally a couple of pounds, sign up for it yourself then log in on your own account.

sausagepastapot · 03/08/2021 10:51

YANBU, watch away, its totally fine!!! FGS so much pearl clutching on this fucking website.

Bollindger · 03/08/2021 10:51

Your already doing it, but be nice and delete the password as you leave.

81Byerley · 03/08/2021 10:51

We went to log in at our last holiday cottage but it was still logged in to somebody else's. We didn't bother to change it.

Jasmine11 · 03/08/2021 10:52

If you've got your own account it's a pretty shitty thing to do - you will mess up all their recommended shows etc. Just log out and use your own or if you don't have one ask the holiday owner for theirs.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/08/2021 10:53

Honestly, the things people get worked up aboutGrin

PalmsandCharms · 03/08/2021 10:54

Would you like it if the boot was on the other foot?

rantymcrantface66 · 03/08/2021 10:57

Theft? It's really not 😆. If someone Kent a magazine in a hotel reception and you read it then put it back is that stealing?

CornishGem1975 · 03/08/2021 10:57

@PalmsandCharms

Would you like it if the boot was on the other foot?
I'd probably be annoyed but see it as my own stupid fault for not logging out.

Honestly, it's not a big deal, who is hurt by this?

ElizaDoolots · 03/08/2021 10:57

It’s not going to do them any harm, just use it! But be prepared that they may boot you off halfway through watching something.

UserStillatLarge · 03/08/2021 10:58

The previous occupants had left themselves logged in on Netflix in our holiday cottage.

DS changed their name to "Forgot to log out LOL" which we thought nicely made the point :)

lastqueenofscotland · 03/08/2021 11:00

I literally could not get worked up about this.

AuntieMarys · 03/08/2021 11:01

Wouldn't bother me in the least

UmamiMammy · 03/08/2021 11:02

It wouldn't bother me if I had forgotten to log out and the next guest used it!
You aren't costing them anything, just be aware that they could log you out at any time.
It's a bit cheeky but hardly the great train robbery!!!

fairycakes1234 · 03/08/2021 11:02

they will only notice if they only pay for one device and then it will pop pop up someone else is logged in. It happens me a lot and i bet if you go into your recently devices it happens a lot of people, people hack in, i went in a while ago because i got notification that there were too many devices being played, and someone was logged into my account in China?? So now i always log out of all devices when im finished and i change password all the time. But back to your question, no fire away, just dont be upset if you are kicked out. I would say the poster hasnt got netflix because if she did surely she would just log in as you are paying for it anyway.

MasterBeth · 03/08/2021 11:06

Anyone who gets furious at this needs to chill. It’s cheeky-fuckery of the very lowest level, entirely under the control of the account holder.

Bookworm20 · 03/08/2021 11:06

Might not even be the previous guests account. Might be someone who stayed there ages ago and hasn't noticed.

Its not theft Confused

If I'd left my netflix logged in and someone on holiday used it, I really couldn't get worked up about it. It wouldn't have cost me anything. And I couldn''t give a toss if my 'recommended viewings' are messed up because I don't pay attention to those much anyway.

Hotelhelp · 03/08/2021 11:07

A complete CF did this to us. Then changed the bloody password so we couldn’t use it! My fault for leaving it logged in but it’s the last thing you think about when you’re running round like a headless chicken at 09.59 trying to get packed up and out by 10!

burnoutbabe · 03/08/2021 11:07

i am not sure its theft as there is no intention to permanently deprive the owner of anything. The owner can still use it/kick out the other users to free it up for them.

It may well be some other crime but i am struggling to think of what,

Anyway, all that will happen is owner will spot a random show on their watch list, realsie they left it logged in at cottage, kick everyone out and thats it.

The current poster doesn't know it belongs to the previous guests, it could well come with the cottage and people in the past have changed the names to random user names.

MasterBeth · 03/08/2021 11:08

@ememem84

i had someone use my netflix after holidays. it was a friend of ours, and i'd logged in on their tv.

however they continued to use it and not pay for it. so. i waited until they had watched all but one episode of a series. and then changed the password.

Why?

Surely if it's a friend you just talk to them. Isn't that the most normal way to go about it rather than passive aggressive nonsense??

Or just log them out immediately when you notice.

You don't sound like a particularly nice friend.
