AIBU to be surprised that Laurel Hubbard didn't register a lift in the Olympics?

I wonder if all the controversy around Laurel's participation led to her losing her nerve?

@Shitfuckcommaetc

I think people sometimes forget that behind all the hoohaa there is a real person. Laurel Hubbard did not make the rules that allow her to compete, she personally should not be blamed for that.

I think all the media (& social media) fuss, and comments must have done a number on her self esteem, and I wouldn't be surprised if mentally she wasn't able to be compete to the best of her abilities.

Did someone force LH to take part in women's weightlifting. Why do you think LH didn't choose men's weightlifting, (which is for peoplw with male bodies like LH)?
AlfonsoTheMango · 02/08/2021 16:57

@swimlyn

Had problems with her snatch apparently.
You mean - it wasn't clean?

Indeed.

Cleanliness is reserved for the Clean and Jerk surely?

If they were a remotely decent human being they would not have taken advantage of those rules knowing full well the detriment to women's sports and the particularly to the woman who lost out due to them being included. LH was doing nothing more than gaming the system, they know it and everyone else knows it, anyone with any integrity would not have colluded with the IoC on this.

The IoC Rules are a Cheat's Charter the Committee that decided on them is made up of only men, funny that. It's a legalised form of doping for one group, it's abhorrent.

I think all the media (& social media) fuss, and comments must have done a number on her self esteem, and I wouldn't be surprised if mentally she wasn't able to be compete to the best of her abilities.

Quick, find me the world's smallest violin.

Women's sports should be segregated by sex and only sex, no males and no-one with a Y chromosome should be included, that is the only way to ensure safety and fair competition.

I don't disagree with you.

I'm simply saying that the buck should stop with the people making these decisions.
The faceless commitee, who aren't having their lives strewn and nitpicked over the media

SpindleWhorl · 02/08/2021 17:00

It's interesting how dim a lot of people are, to have fallen for this farce hook, line and sinker.

Meanwhile my DS (early 20s) is now spending the day ranting about how next time it'll be 18 year old blokes with mad competitive parents competing for nations with nothing to lose destroying female elite sport forever, unless the IOC change the fucking crazy rules.

^^ Man's view, it must be right.

AlfonsoTheMango · 02/08/2021 17:00

I thought that saying 'jerk' and LH in the same sentence was a tautology.

@ChainJane

The thing I take from this is that actually there isn't anything to worry about. Transwoman trounced by non-transwomen which suggests that maybe the guidelines are alright and the rules that are in place have bought Hubbard down to not just to par female level, but actually sub-female level.

I don't get the fuss about Hubbard taking a born-female woman's place - presumably the woman she replaced was even shitter than Hubbard?

And right here is a perfect example of why trans competitors like Hubbard might choose to deliberately underperform- to encourage attitudes like this one, and open the door for even more trans competitors in future.

Oh that’s fine then. Biscuit
FourTeaFallOut · 02/08/2021 17:04

Hubbard's incompetence makes for a more effective Trojan Horse.

The only way out of this shitstorm is if people stop tripping over themselves to trade in their brains for a nice badge.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/08/2021 17:05

@pickingdaisies

A BBC newsreader announced that Hubbard completed their transition in 2017(18? Can't remember) What does that mean exactly? Have they had full surgery? Any surgery? Hormones? Or have they done the bare minimum to bring their testosterone down to accepted levels for the sport, and nothing else?
Cock and balls still evident in any photos I’ve seen.

Another one who thinks this was planned all along.

There's been some talk about LH in the wider press now, usually with a side of "some people think that poor LH shuould not have a right to compete with women, poor little thing, can you believe the nastiness, boohoo".

And that will be the message newcomers to the topic take away, since LH did not show her prowess or lack thereoof.

Then again, LH is old, has had an injury and had attacted a lot of attention. It could be that LH simply was not up to it. All the more reason to have done the decent thing and not taken a place that should never have been hers.

That’s terrible. Let’s abandon women’s sport then because they are a little bit shittier than men.

"Non transwomen" eh? I fucking despair! Nobody can be that stupid surely?

DrSbaitso · 02/08/2021 17:20

It's been engineered in order to substantiate the lie that she never had any male advantage, and therefore clear the way for further hijack of women's sports.

The fact that as 43 year old with recent injuries, she was there at all - suddenly world class in substandard middle age, when competing against women - shows the truth of her male advantage. But you aren't allowed to say that.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/08/2021 17:20

At least if we had a non -transwomen category we'd have a fair sporting event.

NautaOcts · 02/08/2021 17:22

Let’s face it, it’s shit for women, it’s also shit for transwomen.
If Lauren Hubbard had one there would have been lots of people saying it was because she had unfair advantage. Can’t really see how it can work.

Trans category?
Trans Olympics?

NautaOcts · 02/08/2021 17:22

Had WON not one!

pantsdants · 02/08/2021 17:24

She's 40 something & injured....

BlueLobelia · 02/08/2021 17:26

I watched it. Hubbard threw it. The smug triumphant smile every time shows there was something else at play. Now the narrative is 'see, nothing to see here. No unfair advantage at all. Silly women worried about that. Hubbard took one for the trans team'.

fucking joke. Go watch the footage. see how hubbard reacted. it was blatant.

Female category (for avoidance of doubt, the XX sort of female Hmm)

and Open category.

Realistically, the open category would still be male, but anyone who wanted to try for it could.

I'd love to see TW, non-binary identifying XY individuals, and athletes with XY chromosomes and DSD which still allow their bodies to process testosterone, to celebrate their strong bodies and compete while accepting that they have advantages that make it unfair to access an XX category.

Won't happen though, not without a fight anyway.
