AIBU to be surprised that Laurel Hubbard didn't register a lift in the Olympics?

I wonder if all the controversy around Laurel's participation led to her losing her nerve?

Presumably you would not need to make an exception for sawyers syndrome as, correct me if I am wrong, it's a condition effecting xx individuals.

It's not complicated as far as I can see.

Ah, just looked further. I stand corrected!

I was under the impression that women with Swyer syndrome have XY chromosomes but the Y effectively doesn't work (I'm sure a geneticist could explain it better). They are all female - uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina - except their ovaries don't develop. And as such, they don't go through puberty unless assisted. This is my understanding ( rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/swyer-syndrome/ ).

It is a rare condition but easy enough to include as an exception if we really have reached a point where we can't tell the difference between a fully intact man who took some androgen blockers and a woman, which it seems we have.

Obviously I'm happy to be corrected.

Cross post!

There are not many DSDs and they are all categorised and recognisable. It would not be at all difficult to write the rules to make it clear under which sex each DSD falls. They all fall under one of them; people with DSDs are still male or female. Though the TRA lobby is trying to broaden the definition so that more or less anything (low testosterone, PCOS) could be considered a DSD. You wouldn't think this would help the cause, as such people are quite plainly and obviously men or women and it's laughable to suggest otherwise. But the entire fallacy rests on overcomplication, obfuscation and just straight up bullshit, and it's all gone so arse about face that you can't rely on the bloody obvious....
