AIBU to be surprised that Laurel Hubbard didn't register a lift in the Olympics?

I wonder if all the controversy around Laurel's participation led to her losing her nerve?

Felt really sad for her. But just her being at the Olympics will have given confidence to and inspired hundreds talented trans women that they can aim to participate in the Olympics in Paris 2024 ❤️

NiceGerbil · 02/08/2021 16:25

No competition rules could be decided by the performance of one person :/

Iona?

EishetChayil · 02/08/2021 16:26

A tactical move, leaving the way clear for transwomen to colonise women's sports.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/08/2021 16:26

"Non-transwomen"

You can't be fucking serious.

NiceGerbil · 02/08/2021 16:27

The assumption the other woman was 'shitter' is horrible.

DH heard on the radio LH had something iffy in qualification.

That sounds unlikely but I can't find anything on Google about LH qualification.

NiceGerbil · 02/08/2021 16:28

I doubt LH would have thrown it tbh.

Seems highly unlikely.

I think people sometimes forget that behind all the hoohaa there is a real person.
Laurel Hubbard did not make the rules that allow her to compete, she personally should not be blamed for that.

I think all the media (& social media) fuss, and comments must have done a number on her self esteem, and I wouldn't be surprised if mentally she wasn't able to be compete to the best of her abilities.

Yes, brilliant scheme. Male athletes not good enough to get into the Olympics male teams, but women will always budge up and give up their places. #bekind, after all!

Trojan horse imo

What about the girls and young women who now realise that no matter how hard they train to take part in future competitions, they could be beaten by male athletes?

Oh please. LH didn't have to compete. The fair and decent thing to do was not to try to get into the women's team. Hubbard must have known this wasn't going to be accepted without opposition.
Floisme · 02/08/2021 16:32

Yes indeed: Roviel Detenamo was denied her rightful place by a craven IOC and the outrageously entitled behaviour of .L Hubbard.

Cismyfatarse · 02/08/2021 16:32

Do you think LH, having got a place, just rested on Laurel's laurels and didn't prepare very well?

bluedomino · 02/08/2021 16:33

In Paris it will be Men's and Failed Mens categories. Womens will cease to exist. The Wokeo Olympics has been a travesty.

More likely that LH is twice the age of other competitors, has a preexisting injury that would have ended the career of other competitors and isn't actually very good.

It's really a Scooby Doo style mystery why LH is there when any other woman wouldn't have been selected as an injured 43 year old.

How do you feel sad-wise for the female athletes who will lose places?

titchy · 02/08/2021 16:43

But just her being at the Olympics will have given confidence to and inspired hundreds talented trans women that they can aim to participate in the Olympics in Paris 2024 quit their sports because there's no fucking chance that they'll ever be able to compete with a biological male.

Fixed that for you.

clickychicky · 02/08/2021 16:43

Could have at least tried a smaller weight

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 02/08/2021 16:45

Do you know, if the Team Hubbard posters showed balance and one ounce of compassion for the real women this hurts, within their post I'd be more convinced it's not plain old fashioned goading/looking for screen shots.

If they were a remotely decent human being they would not have taken advantage of those rules knowing full well the detriment to women's sports and the particularly to the woman who lost out due to them being included. LH was doing nothing more than gaming the system, they know it and everyone else knows it, anyone with any integrity would not have colluded with the IoC on this.

The IoC Rules are a Cheat's Charter the Committee that decided on them is made up of only men, funny that. It's a legalised form of doping for one group, it's abhorrent.

I think all the media (& social media) fuss, and comments must have done a number on her self esteem, and I wouldn't be surprised if mentally she wasn't able to be compete to the best of her abilities.

Quick, find me the world's smallest violin.

Women's sports should be segregated by sex and only sex, no males and no-one with a Y chromosome should be included, that is the only way to ensure safety and fair competition.

EmoIsntDead · 02/08/2021 16:50

@swimlyn

Had problems with her snatch apparently.
*snort*
Bitofachinwag · 02/08/2021 16:52

@ChainJane

The thing I take from this is that actually there isn't anything to worry about. Transwoman trounced by non-transwomen which suggests that maybe the guidelines are alright and the rules that are in place have bought Hubbard down to not just to par female level, but actually sub-female level.

I don't get the fuss about Hubbard taking a born-female woman's place - presumably the woman she replaced was even shitter than Hubbard?

The fuss is about this: Hubbard is a man. Competing in women's sport.
FrankButchersDickieBow · 02/08/2021 16:54

@titchy

I suspect it was planned all along. Too much sunlight if their lifts had been registered. This way the path is paved for reasonably competent biological male lifters in the future to compete in women's competitions under the same guidelines.
I've said this from the start. I actually predicted this would happen.
