Butter and marmite? DH has just walked in mid-breakfast prep and is HORRIFIED! I've never eaten it any other way...

@tulippa you definitely need butter as well as marmite but you should try it and see!

The only way I like weetabix is dry with lots of butter. I don't like marmite, but if you do then it's really no different from adding jam or peanut butter. I've never known anyone else to like weetabix that way though Grin

harriethoyle · 01/08/2021 09:53

@GiantToadstool you just pick it up like a piece of toast. Because I just assumed this was a legit weetabix combo I never asked mum how she came by it and she died last year so that secret has been taken to the grave!

I used to often eat buttered weetabix. Haven't for ages and I now I fancy some. And with marmite 😁 yum

TheSunShinesBrighter · 01/08/2021 09:53

Weetabix spread with butter and dipped in sugar was eaten by me and my friend when we were young. We did it when there were no biscuits. (1970s children)

@WhereIsMyGlasses I've found my people with you and @JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue!

How do you spread the butter without it cracking?

harriethoyle · 01/08/2021 09:54

@Awrite he's already smug enough I'm not telling him THAT!

Marmite is wrong. You need golden syrup (plus a good layer of salted butter). This was my favourite breakfast at boarding school 40+ years ago. Quite fancy it for a mid morning snack now….

harriethoyle · 01/08/2021 09:55

You spread it whilst it is resting on the plate @clickychicky

Sapnupuas · 01/08/2021 09:55

Nope. Not acceptable.

Soften the butter first so it spreads like margarine.

Oooh no I used to love weetabix and butter as a kid! Never had it with marmite but, if you like it, go for it!

TheSunShinesBrighter · 01/08/2021 09:56

Or use margarine ... 😅

Yes! We put syrup on them too!
Femwitch · 01/08/2021 09:58

I have mine with peanut butter. So delicious. Never tried the butter and Marmite but I can totally see how that would work too.

Soggy weetabix is the blerst. On the occasions I have weetabix with milk instead of PB it's a desperate race to eat it while it still has some bite to it; if I misjudge and it gets to mush state it's all over red rover and in the bin.

harriethoyle · 01/08/2021 09:58

I use lupark spreadable @TheSunShinesBrighter although I did see spreadable President in the coop last week which is butter goals...

We used to have weetabix with butter and marmite as kids, I loved it! I haven't had it for a long time though, maybe I will revisit it..!

Weetabix with butter and jam is lovely too !

Me too! When we were young it was softened butter (it was always left out of the fridge in a butter dish) or margarine.

Looks like we’re not the only ones (although in these pictures they’ve put too much butter on for my liking)...

LadyShrek2k19 · 01/08/2021 10:01

Never done it with butter, but have done similar with butter and strawberry jam.
I do eat it with milk, but I don't use a lot of milk and tend to eat it before it's gone soggy. X

harriethoyle · 01/08/2021 10:01

@opinionminion I don't like jam Confused welcome aboard @buckleten!
