Locked parking thread 2

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 01/08/2021 07:38

Sorry everyone I didn't post a new thread last night but I was a bit freaked out by the comment about finding me online at the end.

Anyway as the world's most boring update it is still here but someone is coming round about lunchtime to pick it up.

I rang 101 and reported it and that I was concerned they'd essentially vanished. They said there wasn't anything they could do about the car as its on private land but I could be liable for any damage if I moved it and that they would check on the registered owner.

I posted it on a couple of the local Facebook groups last night saying
"Anyone know whose cat this is? Please get them to contact me urgently on xxxx as itll be being towed tomorrow"

I had a response from the guys DS and she said she'd contact him and get him ring me. He hasn't rang me but she messaged me back to say he'd collect it at lunchtime if that was OK. I've said fine but we going out at at 2 so if he's not here before then he won't be able to get it till we get back later.

And that's it really.

Definitely bird seed time OP

AttaGirrrrl · 01/08/2021 17:40

Is there a way of checking who it is registered to?

(And sending an extortionate bill for parking?)

ParrotsAteThemAll · 01/08/2021 17:40

What an absolute prick of a man, he’s had a wonderful weekend bike riding whilst his car is safe and secure! No consideration about you and how inconvenienced you may be. I’m sure he’ll be desperate for his car back before tomorrow morning, I’m interested to see how this pans out!

SixesAndEights · 01/08/2021 17:41

That's just absolute madness that if a vehicle is dumped on your property you can't do a thing about it and ultimately (after how long?) it becomes your problem!

ParrotsAteThemAll · 01/08/2021 17:41

@MotherofTerriers

Definitely bird seed time OP
Yes!!
Queenoftheflumps02 · 01/08/2021 17:42

First off I'm totally invested now. We've had to deal with some CF parking, but nothing on this level.

Pour milk into the bonnet air vents. It won't actually do any damage, but the smell will be absolutely awful. Even better there will be no obvious external signs that CF will see.

Yesitsbess · 01/08/2021 17:42

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

Nothing exciting to report on the car front.

I did not think of the sister not being real. Its a possibility I suppose. On the bright side that might mean he has not been out cycling this morning ignoring the collection of his car and is dead in a ditch too embarrassed to come and collect it and I now own a newish Ford Ranger 😀

As far as I'm aware the FC don't have plans to come but I'm going drop the ranger a message tomorrow see what they can do.

On the other hand if he wants to play who blinks first I am happy to do so. Currently I don't need vehicular access through that gate and don't for the foreseeable future. I can get out the top and go round off road. So game on little man game on.

The only problem with the long game is emergency access but I suppose if that was needed they'd just shift the car our the way and deal with the repercussions later.

You sound very chilled and in control now OP. Good on ya.

//rubs hands with glee//

Excellent news.

This is marvellous news!

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 01/08/2021 17:43

Thing is if he’s working from home he may not actually need his car and could manage a while without it.

AddressLabel · 01/08/2021 17:43

@LavenderAskew

If the police aren't interested and it can't be legally towed away and it DVLA aren't can't tow is away. Does this mean then that a person can randomly dump a vehicle on another person's property and it then ends up the problem of the person in the property?
Yes. It’s like fly tipping rubbish. If it gets fly tipped on the public highway the council will remove it, if it gets fly tipped on private land the council won’t care, and it’s the responsibility of the landowner to get rid of it
FenceSplinters · 01/08/2021 17:44

Was anyone in when you went out to eat, OP? I wonder if CF has tried to collect the car yet…and failed 😆😆

Sunbird24 · 01/08/2021 17:45

The longer it’s left there the more likely the FC will have to move it to access the other track. Oh dear how sad never mind…

It is absolutely looking that way which is annoying.

It works that way with horses though also so someone can break into your field, fly graze their horses on it. You as the land owner are legally responsible for the health and welfare of the horses whilst on your land in terms of food water etc. If you want them gone you have to post a formal notice giving the CF owners days to move them. If they don't you can then take ownership of the horses and dispose of them which is not that bloody simple. You then also supposed keep funds for so long so if they turn up you can give give their money back less your costs....

If you can, then so can he. I'd leave something heavy and agricultural on the track behind his vehicle, so he can't go that way either.

MrsRussell · 01/08/2021 17:48

The other thing is, if he decides to play silly buggers and leave it be, he may well come back to a wholly flat battery.
I do hope the OP would be magnanimous enough to give him a jump start if he comes back a week or so later. Using the truck to give him a charge would do the trick, wouldn't it?

(Also, not sure the AA/RAC would come out if it was on private land? I think they restrict themselves to, literally, "roadside" assistance?)

Kinneddar · 01/08/2021 17:49

But that's a good result for CF because the FC aren't going to have it towed away by a towing company. They'll do it themselves and probably move it to the car park out the OPs way.

itsgettingwierd · 01/08/2021 17:50

At least you've made an effort to contact owner and ask them to collect should they decide to go to the police and say you've stolen their car!

DingDongThongs · 01/08/2021 17:50

Get it towed - his problem! Have you checked it's not stolen?

NoProblem123 · 01/08/2021 17:50

OP is officially a MN legend in my eyes Grin

Don’t forget thread 3 !!

Just seen how my post sounded, I'm not very good with the written word.
I'm in a hospital car park waiting for my son, he was born 31 years ago so it's not a new arrival thread. I'm just waiting outside and have been for the past 5 hours.

It depends how much you pay them. They have different levels of cover.
Sunbird24 · 01/08/2021 17:52

He won’t know where it is, and OP has no responsibility if there’s any damage I mean

drumandthebass · 01/08/2021 17:52

@atlastifoundit. - good point
