To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

Please don't be nice to him or relent because of 'his children'. His children. Children he had a chance to set a better example for. Children who he willingly risked having to be stuck with him because he was being a twat to a woman.

He needs to come to you, apologise profusely, and explain to his kids that he made bad choices intentionally and he's a twat.

Nachthex · 31/07/2021 16:11

Don't weaken, OP. I can imagine you might as time passes and you think of his kids and your female socialisation kicks in even more: ignore it.

Please do not leave him any notes, he doesn't deserve any courtesy at all and absolutely do not give this outrageously entitled man your phone number. Unless, of course, it's a business one: "BlueEyesWhiteDragon is now closed for the weekend and will re-open on Monday at 9am".

God, I've enjoyed this thread. I never did want to vacuum the house this afternoon anyway.

MaMelon · 31/07/2021 16:13

Oooh - this is a fab parking thread Grin Thank you, Mr Twat, for livening up my Saturday afternoon!

MotionActivatedDog · 31/07/2021 16:13

Don’t worry about his children, I suspect they are used to being bearing witness to dad’s twattery.

HalzTangz · 31/07/2021 16:13

@BlueEyesWhiteDragon

See I idiotically left the scene allowing him to disappear off for a bike ride without having to be blatent about it which was a schoolgirl error.
It's not an error, you clearly told him it's private land and he couldn't park. If you have spare finances I'd get the car towed. He won't be in a rush to park on private land again. He knew he wasn't to park but did so anyway, deserves everything he gets
LouLou789 · 31/07/2021 16:14

Yes, OP, he could have already gone home with his kids and they’re at home having their tea. He’s assuming the truck belongs to a CF daytripper like himself and when they go home for the evening he can pop back and collect his vehicle

BlueEyesWhiteDragon · 31/07/2021 16:14

DB has just sent me a pic of what is waiting for me in the kitchen! Toby carvery I love you. Hes perhaps not put enough potatoes on there but I might be some time!

Hope you all sufficiently jealous!

Shock Open the gates - I’m coming over!!

lastcall · 31/07/2021 16:17

Oh, and he's deliberately carrying on with his day being a CF thinking op, a mere woman, will back down. hence the return for picnic food. Hence the return of the bags and then jollying off on their bikes again. He's assuming you'll back down.

Nachthex · 31/07/2021 16:18

Very jealous OP! Enjoy. You deserve it. Have some Wine

AndJonnyBrownleeDancing · 31/07/2021 16:19

You got that...as a takeaway?????

olympicsrock · 31/07/2021 16:19

Be strong OP . Do not let yourself or mumsnet down.

CakeandGo · 31/07/2021 16:19

So jealous of the carvery OP!

Ninkanink · 31/07/2021 16:21

Oh wow that looks good!! It’s a perfect day for a roast here... 😭😭

newnortherner111 · 31/07/2021 16:23

How far is the nearest rail station? A reasonable cost if a taxi were to be called? Advise him of the taxi company's number and advise the gates will be unlocked on Monday.

nocoolnamesleft · 31/07/2021 16:23

Are you having wine with that?

Mountainpika · 31/07/2021 16:24

Leave a note on the car - with the details of the nearest B&B.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/07/2021 16:24

Somewhere there is a mum who was expecting a couple of hours peace and quiet while her Dh took their kids out, and has now had 5 hours and 20 minutes, and counting, thanks to her dickhead husband’s dickishness and @BlueEyesWhiteDragon’s steadfast refusal to accommodate said dickishness!

Just think of her, sitting with her umpteenth cup of tea (other hot and cold beverages are available), enjoying sole control of the remote, if you are tempted to weaken, @BlueEyesWhiteDragon - you wouldn't want to spoil her peace, I’m sure.

Agree with this.

Also agree with the suggestion of the note on the car telling him that you’re not going to be leaving the gates open so he’s going to have to knock.

I would also be looking up potential consequences of blocking access for the forestry commission….

MotionActivatedDog · 31/07/2021 16:26

OP I half suspect this guy will turn up with a sob story saying you made his child miss a football match or something when he eventually does decide to collect his car. He’ll find a way to make you the demon here.

...in which case the OP can reply that he did that all by himself! All he had to do was knock on the door!

Agree with this, you need to be strong OP! If you don't think you can then you need to ask DB to be on door duty.
newnortherner111 · 31/07/2021 16:29

I suggest you not open the gates until you have spoken to his wife. So she knows about his behaviour from you not his twisted lies.

nonetcurtains · 31/07/2021 16:29

I wouldn't worry about the kids mum worrying about where they are; if she has any sense CF is her ex and this is his eow.
