How long did it take for you to be on 'farting' terms with your DPs

This is not really an AIBU, but inspired by the hilarious 'he shat in the garden' thread.

My friend's daughter has been married for seven years...child-free..but her and her DH have never farted in each other's hearing. Nope. They discreetly remove themselves to the loo.

I cannot believe this.

All the time! Couldn't care less it's very natural!
And we probably do it more than most being plant based eaters so I reckon I would be really uncomfortable holding them in all the time!
We also poo in front of each other if we have to because when you have to go you have to go and we only have one bathroom

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/07/2021 18:23

We don't? It's a natural body process. We treat it like we would a sneeze. No reaction
I sneeze rarely but if I do it's often both end sneeze😐 I don't know why. If dh didn't find farts ok I would be doomed

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 29/07/2021 18:24

21 years together and I agree with the first few posters - there's no need unless you have bowel disease! The children have been taught the same since they've been toilet trained too. Nobody healthy and continent needs to fart in rooms with other people in them.

Neron · 29/07/2021 18:24

Disrespectful for doing a natural bodily function Hmm

AleynEivlys · 29/07/2021 18:25

A few weeks I think. I had fairly recently come out of a 6-year relationship with someone who never farted in front of me - and thus I felt I couldn't either, and it was miserable. I was so glad to get that particular 'milestone' out of the way with OH.

Not a problem for me - neither is wee - but solid matter should definitely be private imo. That being said, same OH did witness me shitting myself in the birthing pool during transition with our second daughter. Possibly with our first too, but I had a walking epidural that time so I'm not sure I would have had enough sensation left to notice if I was doing it. They told me I wasn't when I asked, but they would say that wouldn't they? HmmBlush

MrsPsmalls · 29/07/2021 18:25

Am I unusual in never knowingly having farted then? What are you people eating?? I can't think of anytime I have farted whilst awake unless I was just about to come down with d&v which is about twice a decade. But you people are doing it lots of times everyday?

AleynEivlys · 29/07/2021 18:27

Oh, and both our children take huge delight in announcing that they have farted ... most times unnecessarily as it's usually very clear.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/07/2021 18:27

Average number of farts is apparently between 5 and 15 a day

H8theW8 · 29/07/2021 18:28

@MrsPsmalls I think you're the unusual one.

2 years and counting…

You are not eating enough roughage
ShadowInVain · 29/07/2021 18:30

Almost immediately, I think. I'm a friendless, introverted person and there are very few people I connect with (probably about six in my entire life, including my husband) but on the rare occasions I do connect with someone, I feel completely comfortable performing any natural bodily function in their presence

Batshitkerazy · 29/07/2021 18:32

@frutyloops

Married 12 years. We never do. I Think it is disgusting and respectless. We also go to the bathroom alone. It would kill any sexual spark in me.
Bet you’re fun at parties Grin
Sweettea1 · 29/07/2021 18:33

Didn't realise so many are so uncomfortable doing something so natural in front of there partner. No way am I running out the room just to pass wind.

unicornpower · 29/07/2021 18:34

Probably 4 years (until I got pregnant) as i just am so gassy during pregnancy that it hurts if I hold it in, that said we dont purposefully do it infrastructure of each other!

unicornpower · 29/07/2021 18:35

That was meant to say *in front lol

Sparklesocks · 29/07/2021 18:36

A few months in.
We don’t make a point of actively doing it in front of each other but if one gets past the goalie then there’s no great horror either. I love my DP and feel comfortable with him and in my home, I wouldn’t want to have to flee to the loo everytime I have the threat of some trapped wind.

cookiecreampie · 29/07/2021 18:36

A few weeks in. If you can't be comfortable around your partner/ husband, there's no point. Although we do things in front of each other it has never affected our desire for each other. We're not farting in each others faces but if we need to fart, we do.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 29/07/2021 18:37

Farting makes the room unpleasant to be in for everyone - its antisocial and selfish to deliberately make the room you're relaxing with other people in smell unpleasant unless you have a medical reason for not being able to help it, or are a very small child!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/07/2021 18:38

some of the comments are just... 🤣
there are a lot of prudes and uptight butt clenchers here.

Bullshit!
Edinvillian · 29/07/2021 18:38

23 years here and they only time he's heard me farting was once when I was asleep. I've never heard him.

Unfashionable · 29/07/2021 18:39

We try to co-ordinate our farting and play little tunes. If we get really good, we could play God Save the Queen 👸. I bet she likes to raise a cheek & let rip Grin.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 29/07/2021 18:39

@grealy

Guess I live in a gross house Grin regularly and from early on.
I must do too. One of us is always farting. Suffer from IBS. If I hid every time I need to fart, I'd be hiding a lot. Sparks definitely NOT gone from the relationship.

If your farts smell that bad, you should get checked out. Very strong smell can be a sign of medical issues.
