What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

Manual removal of placenta.

LondonGrimmer · 29/07/2021 09:18

@naynayisay

The sinus pain when a plane descends. Feels like my head is going to explode. Only lasts about five minutes but it's the most excruciating pain I've ever experienced including gall stones and childbirth.
Yes! I've had this once when I was full of head cold and my nose was completely blocked... Thought my head was going to explode. The cabin crew got me some vicks on some hot tissue in a cup to try to inhale but nose was so bunged up it was impossible. The lady in the seat next to me got her rosary beads out and started praying for me Grin

2 days after giving birth, with a third degree tear, once the hospital drugs had worn off!

eandz13 · 29/07/2021 09:24

@Kinsters

Manual removal of placenta.
Oooh forgot about this one. On my list too now. "You should just feel some pressure" give over!
NewNeighboursRequest · 29/07/2021 10:00

Compound fracture to my upper arm and fracture extending down through the elbow.

Manual placenta removal for sure

GERTgert06 · 29/07/2021 10:28

Emergency forceps delivery, with no medication.

Mardycustard123 · 29/07/2021 10:53

Twisted bowels. Imagine a balloon that you twist on itself.

Kinsters · 29/07/2021 11:00

@20viona @eandz13

I really don't understand why they don't ansesthesise women properly for this procedure. My Dr didn't lie, she told me it would be very painful but then tried to do it without even giving me any pethidine. She gave me some in the end but I think it should have been a spinal in theatre (I already had an epidural and it didn't help at all - or maybe it did and it could have been even worse). At the time I wasn't really in a position to insist on appropriate pain relief. Awful. I'm pregnant now and dreading it happening again.

SisterBeaverhausen · 29/07/2021 11:02

Burst fallopian tube. Honestly thought I was going to die.

General endometriosis pain is second place to that.

Maddiemademe · 29/07/2021 11:04

Placental abruption

NellePorter · 29/07/2021 11:05

I've had very serious surgery, PSD and 2 difficult births, but they don't come close to some of the migraines I've had.

Pushkinia · 29/07/2021 11:06

Trigeminal Neuralgia. It’s the only pain which is so bad I can’t even cry.

Bambam2019 · 29/07/2021 11:08

The first time the pain killers wore off after a c-section......
Oh and dislocated shoulder, done it 3 times and I’m sure the pain has been worse each time. I passed out in a+e the second time I did it, which might have been somewhat dramatic looking back but it bloody hurts (and that instant feeling of knowing the recovery is going to take weeks as well)

bongbigboobingbongbing · 29/07/2021 11:11

Labour. I felt like I was being run over repeatedly by a lorry.

Migraine is a close second. The pain felt like a knife through my eyeball into my brain.

Broken bones haven't come close to either of these.

DaisyDaisyMae · 29/07/2021 11:19

Radical hysterectomy because of womb cancer. I didn't even know it existed until I was diagnosed with it.

CounsellorTroi · 29/07/2021 11:22

Toss up between endometrial biopsy and having a groin abscess drained, no anaesthetic in either case.

20viona · 29/07/2021 11:26

@Kinsters they tried for an hour with only gas and air it was coming out in clumps. I insisted on a spinal and eventually got one and it took another 45 mins to get out! It's just hell on Earth isn't it. I'm
Considering TTC #2 and am so scared of this happening again. We have a high chance of it happening again apparently.

hellsbellswithcherryontop · 29/07/2021 11:31

Pilonidal abscess

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 29/07/2021 11:34

Thunderclap headache…which I then found out was a brain bleed! Headache pain like I’ve never experienced before or since (thankfully)

2nd to endometriosis pain!

whereislittleroo · 29/07/2021 11:39

3rd child's labour. Excruciating feeling as if my stomach was being squeezed by an iron fist. Cried to my husband that I didn't remember it being this bad the other times and how would I cope with hours of this. Turned out i didn't need to as it was 20 minutes from start to finish.

JammyGem · 29/07/2021 11:40

For me it was attempting to breastfeed. I've never known pain like it and nearly dropped DD before I went faint.

I've had an impacted wisdom tooth, thunderclap headaches (not fun!), kidney stones... but trying to breastfeed was the most painful thing. We gave it a go a few times over several days, even with various medical people checking DD hadn't latched wrong or something, but every time I was fainting and vomiting from the pain. In the end the midwife said that if I could get through childbirth ok but found this pain unbearable, no-one would judge me for mot breastfeeding. I'm so grateful to that midwife!

Wannabegreenfingers · 29/07/2021 11:48

Honestly; tonsillitis. I'll take childbirth any day of the week.

EmilyEmmabob · 29/07/2021 11:52

Tooth abscess
Mumps - my mouth was agony
Back to back labour - I hate the way the pain of this is played down, it was agony compared to DS2 who was back to back but turned round whilst I was in labour. It was impossible to find a comfortable position to be in, I can still remember the pain now whereas the pain from DS2 is a far and distant memory.
