What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

I had a cigarette go into my eye once, that was agonising. Worse than all three births.

Acute pancreatitis.

It got better with supportive care and they never found out what caused it. I'm just glad it never came back.

The pain post surgery after my appendectomy, but while they were there had a good rummage around because I had very large cysts on my ovaries and ended up being under GA for 3 hours....I had a pretty bad reaction to the GA and was given oxycodone which made me none stop vomit which really hurt my abdominal as you can imagine...so much so the anaesthetist was called back out of theatre to give me something stronger which he told me might make my genitals burn....I don't remember much after that I conked out for almost two days 🤣🤣🤣 closely followed by labour.....

Discounting childbirth - shingles. Until those spots appeared I thought I was done for.

Worst long term pain - Constant severe nerve pain caused by an unstable spinal fracture crushing the nerves for 25 plus years, constant daily pain that you know will never end (despite many different procedures and CBT) is just completely exhausting and debilitating physically and mentally.

Worst short term pain ever - the pain i felt within an hour of coming round from multi level spinal/pelvic fusion, ive got a high pain threshold thanks to a life time of pain but oh my goodness, that was something else, even with a morphine pump. Physio make you get out of bed and walk same day and i am very much a rule follower and do what im told but i refused point blank to move until the next day. It took 2 weeks and shed loads of meds before it was even remotely managable.
Then the surgery effectively failed, now that is a whole other kind of pain 😢

Personally though, i think the worst kind of pain for most people is anything that stops you sleeping, thats torturous!

Dry socket after a wisdom tooth removal. Thought I would be taking pain killers forever.

Having the compound fracture of my wrist pulled back into place . To my utter shame, I screamed throughout, and begged the surgeon to stop! My poor dd who was holding my hand throughout the process, nearly fainted Sad

Haemorrhoid removal worse than childbirth and wished I would just drop dead the pain was so bad. Took months to heal and get rid of the pain. Honestly shouldn’t have bothered as returned fast!

Slipped discs - hurt to even move my little finger, spasms shooting up through your body. Just vile.
Gallstones - blacked out, woke in a pool on vomit, very lucky to have flopped forwards and not backwards.
Childbirth - no explanation needed...
Toothache - sharp and not much touches it, but at least you know it's only temporary a bit like childbirth.

In that order.

@Supergirl1958

My son just (accidentally) head butted me in the bridge of the nose! Talk about eye watering pain!! But I have to say 41 hours of labour!! Ouchie!!

You have my sympathies. My DD gave me a nose bleed a few weeks back. Trying to reassure a child while dealing with the blood wasn't fun.

Everyday... Neurological pain from arthritis in my spine. Red hot pokers in legs when walking. Hot iron on back when making food or doing household tasks. But you just have to get on with it or never get out of your bed and have no life.

viral meningitus-the headache pain was unbearable. Closeley followed by 10 attempts at a lumbar puncture but i think the fear of them messing about for so long was worse than the shooting pains down my legs as they hit nerves!

Shingles. Searing burning pain all over my hip, buttock and thigh which was so painful I couldn’t sleep. For four days. It was awful. Worse than childbirth!!!

My first labour. Felt like I was being torn apart from the inside. Pain was not where it was supposed to be.

2nd labour was fine, so can fully imagine there's worse pain if you got labours like my second.

I still cannot believe the difference in the pain, the type and the level.

The slow agonising wait for eardrum to rupture during a nasty ear infection. Up there with childbirth for me.

As someone who’s currently pregnant and has gallstones 10 years ago, I’m really heartened by the number of people saying gallstones was worse! I hope that’s the case for me. It was utterly horrendous pain, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
