What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

Dislocated kneecap I put back instinctively. More painful than childbirth although over more quickly! Closely followed by meniscus tear in same knee .... unable to move, turn over, weight bear or even use the loo for more than a week.

@AllThatGlistensIs

A Lisfranc fracture of my foot.

I went through three births, all induced by drip and only gas and air for pain relief. I’d rather go through all three labours again back to back than that fracture.

The break snapped all the ligaments and tendons attached to the bone joint and my foot looked like it had gangrene, the bruising was so bad. On crutches for 8 weeks, then a boot for 12 weeks and it took a full year before I could try to go on tiptoe again. Worst pain I’ve ever experienced.

I was thought to have one of these, but the scan proved otherwise.

The actual worst pain I have had was caused by a different, but similar type of injury where I ruptured all the tendons in my ankle jumping off a 3m high wall and landing on the side of my foot on sand. Fuck me that hurt.

Labour with syntocinon was bad, but not that bad. Although if I concentrate hard enough I can still “hear” the snip of the episiotomy.

I have just seen people mentioning triminigal neuralgia. It reminded me of the time I nearly rang the police because my neighbour was screaming. I genuinely was terrified and thought he was being murdered. An ambulance turned up and I learnt from said neighbours wife that he had one of his ‘suicide headaches’ I have never heard anything like it,. My sympathies to all who suffer.

Labouring a back to back baby after induction with no pain relief.

Miscarriage

Cakeofdoom · 28/07/2021 20:58

I also stabbed myself clean through the hand and out the other side with a blunt knife severing my thumb tendon, that was horrific, but still not as bad as frozen shoulder

minty133 · 28/07/2021 20:58

Twisted haemorrhoids
Toothache
Broken leg after surgery
Childbirth not so much as had epidural

Lonelydaisy · 28/07/2021 20:58

Brain hemorrhage

Broken humerus, fell of my bike onto a fence. My arm ended up as three separate pieces of bone with a y shaped fracture as the fence had acted as a chisel into the bone. My head saw my hand in a place it was no longer in.

Much much more painful than childbirth including an ectopic pregnancy, or dental issues, or my heart condition.

cherrytrismum · 28/07/2021 20:59

I was about 34 weeks pregnant and got a DVT. I had a procedure where they put in an IV filter to catch the clot should it go to my heart, lungs brain etc. Got back on the ward and my baby moved and squashed the filter, which then poked out into a nerve. The pain was like nothing I have ever felt before (already had 2 kids) I would literally have to get on all fours as soon as I could, literally throwing myself out of bed, to get the weight off and wait for it to stop stabbing whatever it was, it was stabbing. Had my own gas an air tank, was dosed up to the eyeballs with pain killers, to the extent that they was going to have to deliver early and wean my baby off of it all. He is 8 years old now with ADHD, which I believe was due to the prolonged radiation in having it placed there and then checked to see if they could remove it. It was only mean't to in their temporary, but is still stuck in me and I am on blood thinners for life and I am now screened to make sure it doesn't break apart.

After birth pains with dd2, so much worse than actual labour and I was never warned about them, thought I was dying. Toothache definitely a close second though, Labour third, but the contractions, not the actual crowning, that wasn't so bad

HazelBite · 28/07/2021 21:00

Being an oldie I've had C Sections, tooth abcess, blocked bile duct, but the worst pain was after I had my second knee replacement and my pain killers wore off!

Fountainsoftea · 28/07/2021 21:00

Bacterial Sinusitis. I wanted to tear my face off. I lasted a week, before ending up in ooh on Good Friday, crying with the pain but telling the nurse that I wasn't actually that bad and that I wassorry for wasting her time.

Antibiotics kicked in pretty rapidly and the relief was incredible.

WaferThinIce · 28/07/2021 21:00

Ulcerative colitis….I’ve had 3 c-sections, 2 of which were emergency after long unproductive labour, multiple broken bones including ribs when pregnant which didn’t/couldn’t heal, RA, fibromyalgia and goodness knows what else but the colitis floored me and I begged for help. Blue lighted to ED and morphine didn’t even touch the edge of the pain for hours.

Picklesbaby · 28/07/2021 21:01

Emergency C section prep , 10cm baby stuck after hours on the highest drip . contractions one after the other and the pressure omg it was constant. they were awfully rough and told me I couldn’t feel my contractions . Turns out they thought I’d had an epidural already ,he asked where it was when he went to top it up .

Back to back and induced childbirth

RainbowMumzy · 28/07/2021 21:02

Gallstones.

Stuckhere2021 · 28/07/2021 21:02
@Stuckhere2021 that’s exactly how mine started. Look up the condition and see a doctor. Not trying to scare you but it caused a stroke in me and a blood clot on my brain. I’m only 39.
Bloody hell! Thanks for this. I got diagnosed with high blood pressure about 2 years ago and have a family history of stroke so I will take your advice and speak to GP. Hope you’ve recovered from the stroke 💐

4kids2dogsand · 28/07/2021 21:03

Gallstones

Pinkstars2501 · 28/07/2021 21:04

Endometriosis. Closest thing to labour without actually pushing a human out. It's unreal.

And anyone that tells me it's not on a par with childbirth, clearly doesn't know how bad Endo pains can be.

emmetgirl · 28/07/2021 21:04

Childbirth

Spanielstail · 28/07/2021 21:04

Ruptured ectopic pregnancy

MrsPnut · 28/07/2021 21:04

My worst ever is my current extravasation of epirubicin into my chest. I am in my third week and morphine is not really touching the pain. I had two children with no pain relief and I’d rather do that every day than go through this.

WutheredOut · 28/07/2021 21:04

Childbirth, migraine but the worst was pneumonia in my right lung - I genuinely thought I was dying - I have never been so scared to breathe as I thought it would kill me.

Seventimesaday · 28/07/2021 21:05

5 hours with a dislocated knee.
