What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

A sinus infection had me screaming into a pillow. And this was after giving birth to 2 children and having mastitis.

Surreyvillager · 28/07/2021 20:11

Induced back to back labour

Happylittlethoughts · 28/07/2021 20:12

Child birth ... could not believe how painful it actually was. Jesus wept

Zakky12 · 28/07/2021 20:12

Back paibduring child birth, felt like a sumo wrestler was stamping on my back and breaking my spine, still remember the pain and agony I went through.
@tnetenba yes this too. I went one better and accidentally vacuumed my toe once , omg that stubbed toe feeling lasted 12 hours, I had to go limping into work

I

Mamaelephant7 · 28/07/2021 20:12

My top 2 are definitely toothache and a meningitis headache, both absolutely paralyzing pains! My 5 labor's and sciatica do not even touch the sides 100%

seriouslystressedoutmama · 28/07/2021 20:14

Acute urinary retention, 3 times. I said goodbye to my kids.

Hallyup6 · 28/07/2021 20:14

When the doctor put her arm, up to her elbow, inside my uterus, without any warning.

Never experienced anything comparable.

AbjectHorror · 28/07/2021 20:15

Childbirth with the oxy drip - induced labour. Oh, and I have a slipped disc and sciatica, the nagging, constant agony down my lower back and leg is grating.

BlueAbacus · 28/07/2021 20:15

Gallstones, childbirth and a 12wk miscarriage that got stuck behind my cervix 👌🏻

Morbidly fascinated by all the other horrendous pain stories here

Makingnumber2 · 28/07/2021 20:15

Bowel in spasm following a gynae surgery. Sharp, agonising, stabby pain- like trapped wind but lasted much longer than a few mins or seconds. The sort of pain you have to try and breathe through like in labour.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 28/07/2021 20:16

Gall stones

pinkteapots · 28/07/2021 20:16

Ive had a compound knee fracture and 8 births. Kidney stones were worse than any of those! Its pain + constant vomiting + horrendous sensation of... i dont know what... a stone crawling round your body.

But reading some of these i'm thinking there is far worse out there than even that!

Birkie248 · 28/07/2021 20:16

Without a doubt nerve entrapment from a slipped disc.
I’ve given birth and an appendicitis was a mere niggle compared to the nerve pain!

NaToth · 28/07/2021 20:16

Acute glaucoma. Christmas Eve in A&E and even morphine didn't see that pain off.

Second would be a dislocated knee. It took gas and air to get me off the floor and into the ambulance. Once they put it back, I was fine.

ThorsLeftNut · 28/07/2021 20:16

@BadgeronaMoped

3 natural births, they weren't great pain-wise, maybe 7/10 at points. Ovarian torsion however, fuck me, that was something else. I wouldn't like to feel anything worse than that Sad

Never broken a bone so I've not got that to compare either pain to. Labour is a sort of ache pain, sharp near the end, torsion was searing/sharp.

Came to say the same.

Torsioned teratoma ovarian cyst was the WORST pain I’ve ever experienced.

Antwerpen · 28/07/2021 20:17

Migraine known as a ‘suicide migraine’ the most shocking pain ever.

Catabogus · 28/07/2021 20:17

I am always amazed that women with children answer this question with anything other than labour! It was the most painful experience of my life by a country mile.

I’ve had sciatica, ruptured ovarian cyst, burst appendix, sepsis, tooth abscess, Lis franc fracture, and many other broken bones - but never experienced ANYTHING to touch labour. Hell, I’d have ALL those things again if it meant not having to go through another labour.

I see gallstones are mentioned a lot, so I fervently hope I never have to have those, if they are anything like giving birth in terms of pain level.

Mammyloveswine · 28/07/2021 20:17

Breast abscess..legit thought my boob was going to explode... had to have morphine.. was hospitalised for a week...

Worse than childbirth (and one of my births I had no pain relief).

Muddywoof · 28/07/2021 20:18

Laser eye surgery, where they told me everything is quick and easy and simple, and wait until just after you've had it to say recovery is incredibly painful, and she told me that if I suffered 8 out of 10 pain I would be lucky. Close was childbirth as my DS twisted to the side every time I had a contaction.

mineofuselessinformation · 28/07/2021 20:19

Two very different things:
A reaction to an antibiotic which meant my gut lining shed and was bleeding (the only time I honestly thought I would die).
A condition which caused sciatica to the point it was agony to bear any weight on one of my legs.

Franklyfrost · 28/07/2021 20:20

@willowtree81

Yep. One of my dc’s births was so painful but also only 30min. Reviewed my notes with the midwife after because it was so bad and she said that often it’s the short labours that come back because they can’t understand the pain, just can’t process it…

TheCrowening · 28/07/2021 20:20

Acute pancreatitis caused by gallstones, which wasn’t diagnosed until I’d suffered for four continuous days. I would have welcomed death.

MizMoonshine · 28/07/2021 20:20

Labour.

It's the worst thing in the fucking universe to my body.
Toothache I can manage, migraines I can handle, sinus headaches were something I'd never like to experience again, broken bones are uncomfortable but I didn't cry as much about an ankle with two breaks as I did about labour.

Thekormachameleon · 28/07/2021 20:21

Oooh where to start 😂
Probably gallstones, followed by burst appendix with 24 hours post exploratory laparotomy without any pain relief at all

Closely followed by 46 hours of back to back labour, slipped disc and infected and abscess ridden wisdom teeth

Me and pain are well acquainted unfortunately

TatianaBis · 28/07/2021 20:21

Appendicitis - way worse than 3 x childbirth for me. Needed intravenous morphine.
