What is the WORST pain you've ever had?

Personally, toothache (constant background throb with searing white hot stabs that made me feel like I was being electrocuted in my skull every few seconds) gets the award for absolute worst ever. Two frozen shoulders, and adenomyosis that used to regularly have me puking and fainting and almost hallucinating on the bathroom floor are strong contenders - but miles behind. There is just something about vicious toothache that makes it the worst.

Contemplating this as just back from the dentist, where at least for now, things were ok this time Grin

What about you?

Gallstones. Unspeakably horrific. Worse than labour, worse than appendicitis. Utterly incapacitating.

Twilight7777 · 28/07/2021 20:04

having a halo removed like a massive metal frame off my head. Local anaesthetic didn’t touch me, and surgeon tried to take screw from side of my nose and accidental pulled bone so it was protruding inside the skin, I screamed the place down. No one could touch or go near my face for 10 years as I had ptsd, reoccurring nightmares etc. Fortunately it’s now fixed (under general anaesthetic thankfully).

Second worst was thought to be sciatica but I actually have a non cancerous tiny cyst stuck inside my spinal column which stops the spinal fluid moving as much as normal. Also discovered I have a protruding torn disc. I have a high pain threshold from surgeries since birth (cleft lip and palate, jaw surgery to name a few) and nothing stopped the pain except for morphine when it was at its worst. I still have pain every few weeks but it’s more of an ache and it’s not anywhere near as bad as it used to be. I was walking with a stick for a year and a half. Don’t need it now but I can’t walk more than a small walk round local park without a sit down and rest.

Natural childbirth with NO pain relief and a second degree tear being stitched up also with no pain relief

ittakes2 · 28/07/2021 20:04

Torn knee cartilage - it was during lockdown so no help for months drained 180mls of fluid from my knee joint in the end. Couldn't sleep for more than 45mins a night. C section recovery was less painful even though I was a bit of a mess and needed 2 litres of blood transfused.

Changemaname1 · 28/07/2021 20:05

Food poisoning Sad

RestingStitchFace · 28/07/2021 20:05

Childbirth easily the worst

Had a neck injury in my 20's which was pretty fucking painful too. But was given serious voltage painkillers for that.

LadyCatStark · 28/07/2021 20:06

Ear infection and sinusitis which made my teeth ache somehow at the same time. I could have quite happily chopped my own head off!

VariantL1130 · 28/07/2021 20:06

I've given birth twice, have endometriosis, and broken my arm. But nothing beats the pain of having a blood sample taken from the artery in my wrist.

Domino20 · 28/07/2021 20:06

Sciatica. Didn't leave home for 6 months and at 5'11' I weighed 8 and a half stone as couldn't sit at a table or lift a cup or wear clothes.
Child birth was a minor inconvenience in comparison and I didn't even use gas as kept waiting for it to hurt properly.

NotMyCat · 28/07/2021 20:07

Cauda equina. Losing all feeling was blissful relief from the relentless nerve pain

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 28/07/2021 20:07

CRPS. Thank god mine into remission after 9 months of treatment.

Imagine someone's poured petrol on you and set fire to it.

Tops the McGill pain scale.

AlwaysLatte · 28/07/2021 20:07

Drug free chikdbirth, no question!

Sugarcube84 · 28/07/2021 20:10

Gallstones, two natural birth with just gas and air but gallstones almost had me asking for the oramorph I was pregnant at the time and the thought of baby having to be monitored after birth kept me going.

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 28/07/2021 20:10
