Isolating and binge watching couples come dine with me!

Would love to hear from anyone who has been on about what ifs really like behind the scenes!

Also.. if you were going to go on what would your menu be?!

I think I would keep it simple with:

Starter: sweet chilli king prawns and chorizo on a bed of rocket with home made bread.

Main: mozzarella and pesto stuffed chicken wrapped in Parma ham, with tendersteam broccoli and green beans and crushed roasted baby potatoes.

Desert: chocolate torte.

A friend of mine was on it. He said they find out what each contestant's most-hated food is and then they get the others to serve that.

Jasmine11 · 25/07/2021 23:38

@Qwerty789

Starter:Cheese selection with a variety of homemade breads

I love cheese but on no planet is it a starter! How odd

I though that too!
BecksBristol · 25/07/2021 23:39

My favourite episode was the one where a bloke served chilli from an Old El Paso kit or something of that nature, and won! He gave out cactuses as gifts to the guests.

Helloumi · 25/07/2021 23:42

@Mammyloveswine Can I come to yours for my tea sometime? Your "menu" sounds like heaven. 😋

Hydrate · 25/07/2021 23:48

@selflove

Years ago there was a poster who was on it, who was updating us daily with everything, it was fascinating! They had to retake everything so often they didn't eat til almost midnight some days! And the black taxi at the end just drove them to the end of the road to do their scores, then they got a "normal" mini cab home 😂

The TV team found the thread somehow and it all got removed, and the poster had breached the "non disclosure" part of her contract where she wasn't allowed to talk about it before it aired (or at all?) and she was in big trouble, and stopped posted. It was fascinating stuff though!

I remember that, and tried to find it for the brownie recipe, which I had used and it was very good. Too bad it bot deleted.

NashvilleQueen · 25/07/2021 23:52

My favourite is quite recent with the Welsh girl 'gloving' her chips and serving steak on a plank. I loved her.

RubyGoat · 25/07/2021 23:56

Minestrone with parmesan & pesto rolls
Pumpkin & sage ravioli
Chocolate roulade with a coffee buttercream filling

I've done all these before. All easier than they look and/or can be prepared in advance.

NashvilleQueen · 25/07/2021 23:56

Here she is the total legend

QueenofDestruction · 26/07/2021 00:01

I would be awful to cook for as allergic to most seafood, don't eat veal , lamb, chocolate, bread,anything truffle flavoured but happy with vegan/vegetarian food.

FangsForTheMemory · 26/07/2021 00:03

Goat cheese salad
Beef roulades with mash, glazed carrots and buttered savoy
Chocolate mousse with raspberries

This is a menu you can make almost entirely in advance.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 26/07/2021 00:06

I did three phone interviews for one but didn't get selected. They asked questions like "Do you ever rub people up the wrong way" and "How would you react if someone criticised your dish". I obviously wasn't controversial enough for them, they're actively looking for dickheads

RyanAirVeteran · 26/07/2021 00:09

Is it only called Come Whine With Me, in this house ?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 26/07/2021 00:20

@TheRealMrsGrissom

Anyone remember this classic week 😁
God yes but why they just say there with their heads down and didn't tell him to fuck off I'll never know.

It's comedy gold though, stupid man!

Shinysilverlamp · 26/07/2021 00:35

Can anyone remember the episode with the man who was a terrible cook, if I remember rightly he served a Yorkshire pudding and salad with “vinegarette” which was actually just normal white vinegar for a starter. His main course was something equally bizarre but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was.

I’m coming to yours for dinner 😋

My mouths actually watering reading your menu. I’ve actually took a screen shot if it to remind me to make it at the weekend 🤣

abstractprojection · 26/07/2021 04:37

A friend was a researcher on some of the later episodes so can confirm they’re mostly looking for conflict. One week he was told to find a witch as they had a bloke that hates witches

Hydrate · 26/07/2021 05:36

Thanks for the link @NashvilleQueen that was very entertaining. I just watched three of them.

Kinsters · 26/07/2021 06:51

I'd want to do Chinese food but not sure if food on sharing plates in the middle would be too controversial! Might get marked down for chopsticks as well..

NashvilleQueen · 26/07/2021 07:03

@hydrate you're welcome!

JustJustWhy · 26/07/2021 07:05
@maddiemookins16mum I remember that one. He owned a casino in Ayr. They were also smoking in that ep. That wouldn't be shown now.
and
@maddiemookins16mum

This is one of my FAVOURITE episodes! I think they showed the smokers because someone gave out Nicorette patches to try and stop them leaving the table!

Qwerty789 · 26/07/2021 08:28

It's awful now, but the first few were great. I think the very first week is the one that sticks with me...Princess Pippa and the dinner lady, and the big lad who made a breakfast curry!!

Hugoslavia · 26/07/2021 08:42

I know someone who did it. They received help with all the food prep from the crew, who finished chopping their veg etc so that they could crack on with the filming. I've been approached to do it several times now.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/07/2021 09:42

I enjoyed CDWM in the early years, but not when they started manufacturing conflict. I suppose it must improve ratings or they'd have stopped, but I enjoyed the real ones a lot more.

My menu would be...

Starter: Manchuri gobi with poppadums and chutneys

Main: Chilli paneer (mild), Bombay potatoes, dal fry, rice, chapathis.

Dessert: Gulab jaman and ice cream

Except I wouldn't apply beacause they'd pair me with someone who's terrified of catching brown from spicy food and another, as KarmaViolent brilliantly put it, "who moans about protein and stirs his tea with bacon just in case he dies of vegetarianism between meals".

TheSlayer · 26/07/2021 10:09

Heydemons I think your menu would've been a winner for me when I was vegetarian. Paneer is one of the very few things I can't recreate as a vegan.
I'd have to hope we weren't on the same night though as your curries might blow mine out of the competition!
Poppadoms are a great idea for a starter. I've never made my own. Might give it a go when in-laws are gone (they hate curry and spicy food so we have come bland with me when they're down!)
