In brief, I ordered a side of nachos to go with my dinner. I'm bitterly disappointed. Before I share what arrived, what would the world of Mumsnet expect to receive? (Pretty sure IANBU to say that these are NOT nachos!!!!)

Surely not, that's terrible. Surely they have at least forgot to put in a salsa dip or something 🙈

PeapodBurgundy · 24/07/2021 22:02

@lljkk

Teen DS works for a busy take-away... occasionally has stories about daft things his teen coworkers do. Unpleasantly lumpy gravy making featured... I imagine this was a mistake, OP. Hope so, anyway.
I sincerely hope so! I only lasted one shift at the take away as a teen, so hats off to your DS (any everyone else who can hack it!).

I swiftly retreated to a civilised little tearoom where the elderly community of Redcar could pay five times the going rate for a scone and a pot of tea.

@PeapodBurgundy

DP has added grated cheese and is eating them. Apparently I'm overreacting. I may have to LTB!!!
Stoically making the best of a situation does not cut it when you've been nacho betrayed.
PeapodBurgundy · 24/07/2021 22:04

@Classica I honestly thing I'd feel less wounded if my main dish was the disappointment!

I'm really wracking my brain trying to come up with a not yours/nachos pun but I'm at the end of my bottle of wine.

Not saying I'm less quick witted or cognitively lacking. Probably about the same. But I'm using the wine as an excuse.

beigebrownblue · 24/07/2021 22:06

yes this is an abomination

I love nachos with pulled pork or chicken, glass of wine and how it is supposed to be

this would cost ten pence max

complain

LoveFall · 24/07/2021 22:07

Thanks for making me smile OP. Those "nachos" are a disgrace to Tex-Mex cooking.

Reminds me of the "Below Deck" episode where the awful chef who didn't last long tried to cook nachos for the uber rich super yacht guests and they looked so disgusting the Chief Stew would not serve them. But at least they looked like they had some cheese on them.

goose1964 · 24/07/2021 22:08

I ordered nachos on holiday, in the far distant past when I could eat cheese , and was served what looked like a large bowl of doritos, no sauce, no cheexe.

PrettyBlunt · 24/07/2021 22:10

Haha! Straight out the bag to the plate Grin.

Sparklfairy · 24/07/2021 22:10

There's an indian street food place near me that does 'nachos' which I just had to try out of curiosity. They make them from (I think) parathas or another indian flatbread, add some chicken curry, cheese, and jalapenos.

When I tell you they were better than sex...

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 24/07/2021 22:12

@NotYourNachos

Very invested in this thread

Local pub does nachos… but with hash browns Envy (not envy!)

They do WHAT?!!
PeapodBurgundy · 24/07/2021 22:12

@Sparklfairy while I wouldn't call it nachos, it does sound like the food of the Gods!

@Classica

£2.50 for 40ps worth of tortilla chips? Cheeks bastards.

Nachos on a menu means salsa, it means cheese, it means jalalpenos, it means sour cream and it means lots more cheese.

I would march down there and moon at them.

Mooning at them seems a little extreme!
Sparklfairy · 24/07/2021 22:16

@PeapodBurgundy I think it was a marketing ploy, they wouldn't sell as many if they called them some obscure indian name around these parts Grin

gimmenachos · 24/07/2021 22:19

I've been lurking on the web for ages yet never joined MN. Had to join to say damn you, gimme nachos! Guess what's on the hangover breakfast menu tomorrow?!

PeapodBurgundy · 24/07/2021 22:23

@Sparklfairy

That's just brought an amusing memory flooding back to me. Years back I used to do occasional work for a company which (in part) involved standing in Sainsbury's with those little free samples of food which we were NOT allowed to call 'free samples' There were several different products to be 'demonstrated' each week, across all stores, regardless of where they were.

I'll never forget 'demonstrating' stone baked flatbread with rocket leaves and the choice of either extra virgin olive oil or balsamic vinegar in a Sainsbury's Local in one of the less affluent areas of Middlesbrough. The phrase 'Vinegar on bread?' is still used in my family almost 20 years later Grin

I ordered nachos from a local takeaway the other week. This is what arrived. They were £6, then £2 delivery on top. (I didn’t just order these though, I got more delivered for my £2 fee).

Not fucking nachos!!!!
OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 24/07/2021 22:28

Sorry, fat fingers hampering typing...

That’s just half a small bag of probably the cheapest own brand version of Doritos chucked on a plate. I’m afraid I judge your DH for even trying to m
