My DH believes the vaccine will result in mass genocide

Im at my wits end. It's all he talks about.

He believes that covid has been over dramatised, masks are a waste of time and that the vaccine is going to kill millions of people over the next few years. He thinks it's a "depopulation" exercise and a way to control the masses. He said if I take the vaccine he will leave me.

He's been buying "survivalist" gear such as tents/ shovels/ emergency matches/ god knows what else. There's numerous packages arriving at the house every day. He's spent over a thousand pounds on this stuff.

Aibu to just be sick of the whole bloody thing??? I want to talk about something else, something normal but it all just comes back to this. What would you do?

It's not silly, Iris, he's obviously a decent, kind man, but he has become very ill. There's some good advice on here, but please remember to look after yourself, all this is draining.
Don't switch the news on - apart from the UK rallies, the police in Paris are using tear gas against protesters.

@IrisTee

To answer PP - there are many good points, there were more before this though. He's a lovely person, he cares about animals and genuinely enjoys helping people. He's the kindest most gentle person I've ever met. He buys me a coffee every morning from the coffee shop and makes sure I have a towel on the rail to dry my hair. Sounds silly, but the little things matter.

Hence my confusion and upset at this situation.

It's actually made me quite upset writing that. :(

Oh OP, it's a really hard situation for you, if he is to the extreme as it seems he is, this doesn't mean he isn't still a lovely person, it just means at the moment he is struggling, and possibly needs some help beyond what you can offer him. I agree with a PP who suggested contacting MIND in the first instance for support as a family member, and see what they suggest. It's often hard to get someone to accept help as they don't see that there's anything wrong, but it sounds like you are supportive of him and will stick by him which is really positive in terms of the liklihood of him coming out the other side as himself again.
UrbanRambler · 24/07/2021 19:47

OP, take the vaccine. Point out to him that there's no need to leave you because if his theory is true you will die soon anyway, leaving him free to live his life his way. Hopefully you will remain healthy as time goes on, then your DH might realise the vaccine is not a weapon of genocide.

Your DH sounds quite deluded but also sounds desperate to control you, and get you to adopt his belief system on all matters. In time, he might pass through this phase, but the conspiracy videos on YT can be quite persuasive and the more he watches the more material there is to reinforce his delusions. For a while I was interested in the whole New World Order/global conspiracy stuff, and was taken in by some of the stuff I saw. I started prepping and got quite anxious about the future, but eventually I began to see all the gaping holes in the theories and I realised that for the theories to be true, thousands of rich and powerful people around the world would need to a) co-operate and agree on their global domination policy and b) be able to keep huge secrets, forever. Humans being humans, I just can't believe that they are capable of doing either of those things for long.

He thinks it's a "depopulation" exercise and a way to control the masses.

That doesn’t make sense, why not just leave the virus rip through society undocumented if that was the case?

There would be no need to petrify the nation into almost agoraphobic levels if they wanted everyone to die.. I’m confused with his logic.

Double whammy, innit
Noterook · 24/07/2021 19:50

@user1494055864

Well he's not exactly been proven wrong yet has he?! This will all come out in the wash eventually, and we'll see who the mental ones are then.
Buying tents and spending £1k on survival equipment is not in any way, shape or form proven to be the right way forward. It's one thing to form an opinion re vaccines, its quite another for it to have this much of a bearing on someone's life. The same would be true if someone pro vax was spending copious amounts of money on apocalypse stuff and cutting off relationships for those who wouldn't have it whilst spewing all sorts of constant all consuming stuff.
Snowdrop30 · 24/07/2021 19:50

I'm just really sorry you are going through this - it must be so distressing for youFlowers

Maireas · 24/07/2021 19:50

Make sure that you get the vaccine, because if you get ill, you can't help him at all and he may not be able to cope.

HBGKC · 24/07/2021 19:51

Well, I too think that the Covid crisis has been exaggerated, and that masks are a waste of time. I will not be getting any jabs. A growing number of doctors all over the world are saying the same. Should we all be sectioned?

By the way, "Covid 19: The Great Reset" is the name of a book published by Klaus Schwab, founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. For those referring to it in the same breath as QAnon (ie who don't know what they're talking about), here you go:

ChoccyJules · 24/07/2021 19:52

Do you have someone you could stay with for a while (assuming your property and banking rights are all in order)? Maybe you leaving might jolt him into taking a look at what’s happening.

Can just blame the virus and say that the vaccine didn't work on the new version of it.

Or knew that they didn't have a virus that would do the job well enough without making people suspicious and causing riots.

DillonPanthersTexas · 24/07/2021 19:53

I was in Victoria London earlier watching the rugby when an anti vaxer march made their way past. Some of the placards and signed just made me despair, absolute loons and fuckwits.

Newbornandupwards · 24/07/2021 19:55

HBGKC

Exaggerated? All over the globe? For what reason? God why am I engaging with you ....🤦

hels1987 · 24/07/2021 20:00

You have my sympathy. I could have wrote this exactly but about my Dad. Dad is convinced everyone who has had the jab will be dead within two years and won't go near anyone he knows has had it because he believes they are shedding spike proteins and a danger to him. Dad has also taken all of his money out of the bank because he believes it is going to be stolen by the elite who have concocted Covid for some far fetched reason and deregistered from his GP as he believes all the doctors etc are murderers. I am an only child and I am at my wits end. I feel like lockdown has broken him on top of losing my step mum a few years ago and I have no idea what to do because he refuses to accept he may be wrong.

toconclude · 24/07/2021 20:00

@Pollypocket89

I think the tents etc sound ott but the pp saying do the right thing and have the vaccine etc... People are allowed to have different thoughts on that. If it was that alone, it wouldn't worry me
People may be entitled to their opinion but not their own facts. I couldn't live with someone this divorced from reality.
toconclude · 24/07/2021 20:03

@HBGKC
That goes for you too. Dunning Kruger effect in action.

Utter tripe

Anyone could found an organisation and call it whatever the hell they want...

And you are aware that even I could write a book called the great reset and self publish it and watch as millions of dollars roll in because dimwits would but into it.

Glitteryone · 24/07/2021 20:03

Well he’s not alone in his thinking!

There were 2 million people marching through London today as they believe the same.

Surely they can’t all have mental issues?

Disclaimer - I don’t share their beliefs and I have been double vaxed so don’t @ me lol. It just makes me think.....

Glitteryone · 24/07/2021 20:05

And there has been people die as a result of having the vaccine....

32 year old DR Stephen Wright & a 41 year old radio host from Newcastle (apologies her name has escaped me), so I can see why people are worried/doubting

There are people who died after paracetamol. Absolutely every medicine has a possibility of killing someone who reacts badly. So has food though.
Whiskycav · 24/07/2021 20:08

Op, I have had a converstatokn around this about my exh.

After I have left, looking back, he wasn't a lovely guy. He was always controlling but always managed to do it while being the good guy.

During the back end of marriage it was clear he believed a few conspiracy theories. He hated that I didn't. Then we started with flat earth theories. Stories of flights that had taken off in one place had to emergency land, but ended up somewhere it should have been impossible to land. His abusive side got worse and worse. He became hugely paranoid.

It escalated, I left. Over the pandemic its gotten to the point my daughter chooses to not have anything to do with him. He sees our son occasionally, but is upsetting him.

I have had ranting texts this week about how he is withdrawing his consent for the kids to have test, because the swobs are dipping in a chemical to give us all brain tumours.

Apparently the governement has decided the best way to kill huge amounts of us, is to give us an illness that costs a fortune for the NHS to treat and takes a long time to kill us.

In March 2020 he was asking people to tell him if they saw a 5g masts, as he knew someone who would put then down and save us from covid. Vaccines have microchips, is a social experiment, and will kill us all. Masks cause lung infections even when used correctly, the governement wants to know everything he is doing and so and so on.

Its now manageable as we don't see him and he doesn't know where we live. But its not got better. He keeps meeting women at meet ups and it appears that they then increases eachothers paranoia, then they break up after a year.. He thinks he is oh so much cleverer than everyone else which is why he can see what we can't.

Its just awful. I have blocked him but the he turns up at my parents telling them the kids are in danger because I have taken them to a doctor. My daughter blocked him and he turned up at her college. We are all trying to manage it so he doesn't kick off too much. He is currently looking to kove to a cabin in some woods so he can be off grid. I hope he actually does that.

My personal opinion its paranoia and arrogance that is fuelling this.

DancesWithTortoises · 24/07/2021 20:10

He is not at all well, OP.

Please look after yourself and your children and protect yourselves. He obviously needs help but if he can't see that then what can you do?

I couldn't live with that.

Maireas · 24/07/2021 20:10

Please desist, @Glitteryone.
It's really not going to help the OP, is it?

Glitteryone · 24/07/2021 20:11

Don’t think you can compare it like that. Unless you have evidence of deaths caused by paracetamol where overdose/ accidental overdose wasn’t the cause?
