Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

WatfordGap · 23/07/2021 15:22

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

I love the sentiment of your actions OP, but am worried that you are now blocking the majority of the dropped kerb.

Does this not leave you at risk of a ticket or summat?

@peridito

Watford - yeah I get that you don't want to be the bigger person .

If you've parked one of your cars in the road outside your house ,is it really a big inconvenience that you can't get the other one off the driveway right now ?

Personally I see greater merit in front gardens with plants than taking a car/s parking space off the road .But as you're thinking of others in this unselfish act of allowing more space to park cars on the road why not extend that to allowing this car to park ?

If you know that this person is going to park there again why not speak to them/leave a note explaining that you need the driveway to be kept clear at all times ?

Spectacularly misses the point, which is that anyone who parks over someone's drive deserves all they get. Including being blocked in themselves/having their car burnt out 😬

@LakieLady

That's the cutest parking diagram I've ever seen!
Also this.
SunshineCake · 23/07/2021 17:09

Best drawing of a car. Ever.

CynsterBitch · 23/07/2021 17:09

Home alone as DH is away for the night, a parking thread is just what I needed to get the evening started Wine

2bazookas · 23/07/2021 17:09

OMG, who dropped that six inch nail on the pavement ? I hope nobody runs over it.

crowsfeet57 · 23/07/2021 17:10

I am not sure that people that park like this are ‘wankers’ or ‘cunts’ really Most likely just a bit thick

Speaking as somebody who has been sat sobbing while waiting for an ambulance at 3 am because my baby couldn't breathe and our drive was blocked AGAIN by the idiots round the corner parking a car and low loader in front of it so as not to inconvenience their next door neighbour who had ELEVEN cars parked on the road, I can categorically confirm that people who block driveways are indeed cunts and wankers.

The baby is now a strapping 26 year old, but the feelings of terror and helplessness can still overwhelm me when I find some total waste of space parked across my drive.

WatfordGap · 23/07/2021 17:10

@crosstalk

To the PP questioning OP re why she could park second car but not get hers out - parallel parking in a narrow road with cars both sides is easier than turning ninety degrees out of parking down same narrow road with 30 per cent of your turning space reduced.
I could parallel park across the drive because the person parked on the other side had left a huge space behind their car. If they hadn't, I wouldn't have been able to. There is literally about a foot of their car behind the back of my car in the drive. Even with a huge amount of wiggling, I wouldn't be able to get it off (I have learned this in the past - hence the H bar).

While I would love to not have to do the car shuffle, car parking is at massive premium here so I park across the drive so that there's more space for my neighbours, not all of whom have drives.

I won't get a ticket for parking across it because I'd have to report myself. Obviously I could have just got wanker car ticketed but I thought they'd prefer this.

Still there.

As someone who has been blocked in, during an emergency (by wanker neighbour and his fifty billion cars) I salute you!

imnottoofussed · 23/07/2021 17:12

Hopefully the car behind them doesn't move so they can just drive off obliviously Angry

SixesAndEights · 23/07/2021 17:13

A glass?! Let's break out a crate! Fantastic OP!

grumpygiraffe · 23/07/2021 17:13

@Sparklingbrook

They are thick wankers and cunts then

They probably have no clue what an H bar is. 🤷‍♀️

Perhaps, but they should be capable of noticing somebody’s drive with a car in it.

And if not, they are thick blind wankers and cunts.

AddressLabel · 23/07/2021 17:14

Deffo a wanker and/or cunt. I get this frequently. I once played back some CCTV footage to see one wanker/cunt park over my drive, get out of the car, stand there and clearly see they were blocking the drive, and then still walking off.

PicsInRed · 23/07/2021 17:14

@WatfordGap

I've posted this from my laptop now so hopefully people can see it?

I do know parking thread rules.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2021 17:14

Well you can throw whatever insults at them you want they’re still parked there.🤷‍♀️
You only have to see some of the careless driving that goes on to realise that parking is no different.

Tistheseason17 · 23/07/2021 17:16

Make sure you have a few Wine so you can't legally move your car as you're over the limit!

@CiaoForNiao

You are an evil genius

spinningspaniels · 23/07/2021 17:21

We paid an absolute fortune to have the curb dropped outside our business, so that our customers could park on our shop front. What we didn't consider was that every tom dick and harry now pulls across the curb for deliveries, using the corner shop, and the businesses next to us tell their customers to use it to access their fronts too. So our customers are rarely able to park on said front, as it's usually blocked Angry

I'm going to investigate an H bar now, so thank you OP.

Shuffleuplove · 23/07/2021 17:27

Overinvested

MrsFin · 23/07/2021 17:28

Good diagramme OP.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/07/2021 17:30

Good thread for a Friday afternoon OP, and 9 out of 10 for diagram. I docked a point because it's not precisely to scale.

Awaiting further updates with my own wine.

Ooof · 23/07/2021 17:30

@WatfordGap your diagram is epic and your thread has cheered me up no end Grin. Please keep us posted and I hope the wine is flowing well Wine

TheCrowening · 23/07/2021 17:31

Really hope someone doesn’t park up close on your other side OP. else you’ll really be stuck!

Anyway waiting to see what happens next as we all are…

DysmalRadius · 23/07/2021 17:32

If you know that this person is going to park there again why not speak to them/leave a note explaining that you need the driveway to be kept clear at all times ?

Because you shouldn't need a note to know that you don't block someone into their drive; because the OP paid £300 to get the council to put in a permanent indicator that the driveway should be kept clear at all times; and because someone who parks over someone else's driveway knowing that they could be preventing them from leaving should have to face the consequences of their poor decision making in the flesh.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 23/07/2021 17:33

My wine is poured settles down for the updates.
