Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

I agree that parking across a dropped kerb and blocking someone in is selfish .

If it blocked access for an emergency worker ,someone needing access to get to a dying relative then that would be awful .

But that's not the case here is it ? The OP asked if she was being unreasonable ,to me that means whether SHE is being unreasonable .Not some hypothetical person needing their car to save somone from dying .

The car is not parked across the driveway ,it's "a good foot over the end of the H bar " .Even with a narrow driveway I would have thought it possible to exit ,even if it meant partially driving over the pavement .In my borough the end of the H bar is past the dropped kerb.

The OP doesn't need to go out ,could use her second car if she wanted to .She just wants to be outraged .For no reason .

Obviously I could have just got wanker car ticketed but I thought they'd prefer this

Ah feck no, get them ticketed - don't go in all guns half cocked , go blazin' Wink.

igelkott2021 · 23/07/2021 17:35

As I said on the other recent parking thread you have to come down hard on people who park inconsiderately because next time they might actually block someone in when it really matters like you need to get a child to A&E or just get to work on time. So it's immaterial whether the OP has another car. You Do Not Block People's Driveways.

Sadly I suspect the person will manage to get in just fine.

I got blocked in once. I had parked legally, not in front of any driveways, there was a grass verge opposite so I wasn't causing any sort of obstruction at all but the residents didn't like people parking there so drove up to me on both sides and gave me very little room to get out. I got out. It was a bit of a 145678 point turn, but I did it.

igelkott2021 · 23/07/2021 17:35

get out just fine. Seriously why do my hands type one thing when I am thinking something else?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 23/07/2021 17:35

Are you the owner of the wanker car @peridito ???

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/07/2021 17:36

Peridito

It doesnt matter. There is an h bar there, clearly visible. You don't park on it. The rules are clear and are to be obeyed by everyone. People who break these sorts of rules always think they are special.

Anonuser21 · 23/07/2021 17:36

OP you legend. Do let us know when the “wanker” comes knocking on your door

P.s do love the diagram 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

igelkott2021 · 23/07/2021 17:37

Also I just wouldn't be cheeky enough to park across an H bar (didn't know that was what they were called but I DID know that you don't park on them!)

IDidNotSignUpForThis · 23/07/2021 17:37

Fab diagram OP!! Love the cute little blameless cars!!

The selfish driver doesn't know that the op doesn't need to go out or that she has another car. It's just another example of the entitlement that's so prevalent today.

Do you think they’re likely to be visiting neighbours or are you near shops/offices?

If someone has acted illegally then follow the proscribed course - report to the appropriate authorities .

If it's a parking issue and you're that concerned to ensure the person learns a lesson ,then use the correct channels .Don't come over all vigilante and decide you're going to inflict your own "punishment ".

How many times do I have to say this? I cannot get the car parked on the drive off it with the way the car is parked.

Are you annoyed because I have a drive, because I'm environmentally unfriendly, because I have more than one vehicle, or because I'm just a bit of a crap driver? Or are you just being am arse?

We are very near the high street. There is residents parking/meters immediately off it but we're just outside that area. This is a perennial issue.

I agree OP. Even if they were just ignorant about it and didn't notice, they're still cunts.

following a PROSCRIBED course won't get you anywhere. I wouldn't normally be a language nerd but "correct channels" triggered me.

Gosh you're easily angered aren't you OP ?

I was just going by your diagram - not obvious to me why you can't get your second car off the drive . But the point here is that you've indicated that you don't need to .So why are you so determined to make this a huge issue ?

No doubt it's a public spirited effort to highlight the rights of all dropped kerb owners .

There's definitely a point being missed and it's not that one 🙄

BluebellsGreenbells · 23/07/2021 17:53

I think you have to make a point to stop it happening again. If the driver is so inconvenienced they won’t park there again.

AvantGardening · 23/07/2021 17:54

@peridito

Watford - yeah I get that you don't want to be the bigger person .

If you've parked one of your cars in the road outside your house ,is it really a big inconvenience that you can't get the other one off the driveway right now ?

Personally I see greater merit in front gardens with plants than taking a car/s parking space off the road .But as you're thinking of others in this unselfish act of allowing more space to park cars on the road why not extend that to allowing this car to park ?

If you know that this person is going to park there again why not speak to them/leave a note explaining that you need the driveway to be kept clear at all times ?

If only there was some sort of recognised way of marking areas that are not to be parked on. Perhaps dropping the curb in that area, or painting some sort of line to indicate the area needs to be clear of parked vehicles at all times? It’s truly odd no one has implemented such an idea before now.
Oversize · 23/07/2021 17:57

I think this might be your problem.
This car might me a semi-known car. Someone who has seen a car parked across your drive before and thinks it's OK.

I'm clutching at staws here.
