Someone has parked over my H bar and blocked my car in ...

WatfordGap · 23/07/2021 15:22

Earlier this year, I had an H bar painted across my dropped kerb because people kept parking over the edge of the dropped bit, meaning I couldn't get in or out of my drive (the drive is narrow and at an angle on a very narrow street with cars parked opposite).

So far, it's pretty much done the trick. But today I went out for an hour and came back and someone has parked a good foot or so over the end of it, meaning that I can't get my car off the driveway. Unfortunately for them, I was not using the vehicle which was (and still is) parked on the drive, but another one. :)

So I've parked across the rest of my H bar. There's now enough room between my front bumper and their rear one to get a matchbox in. There's about a foot between them and the car parked in front of them.

Today is my last day at work for 2 weeks. Do you think I should have an early glass of wine to celebrate? Grin

Yes WatfordGap - have they?? Have they actually??

There are so many really, really, really important questions that remain unanswered Hmm.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/07/2021 12:38
@WatfordGap you say they have parked a foot over the H-bar, but have they actually encroached on the dropped curb? And I mean the section of pavement that has been lowered to meet the level of the carriageway, not the slanty bit (it's just there as a necessity but isn't part of the dropped section).
The H-bar is just to highlight the presence of the dropped curb but means nothing in itself.
Also what way round is your car parked on your driveway? If you are reversing out then yes it will be more difficult with tightly parked cars but you shouldn't be reversing out into a road.
Alas, you must have missed the diagram on page 4. You can find it easily by clicking on "See all" under the OP above, then scrolling down. It is a minor masterpiece which in my opinion ought to be in the Tate at the very least. (Saatchi & Saatchi please copy!)

Actually, you can find the full explanation for everything by clicking "See all" and reading only the OP's posts without all the other questions and enjoyment, though you'd miss the fun of the thread.

If I come across a thread when its pages are in the high teens it's generally worth seeing what the OP has posted so far, because often the answers to questions I want to ask on page 17 are to be found there.

billiebeeme · 24/07/2021 12:43

They'll probably still get out maybe back and forth a bazillion times n maybe a wee nudge too. Let's hope they aren't confident enough to attempt it and have to chap ur door!

tallduckandhandsome · 24/07/2021 12:44

It's been 18 hours, they have most likely left now...

walksen · 24/07/2021 12:48

"And I mean the section of pavement that has been lowered to meet the level of the carriageway, not the slanty bit (it's just there as a necessity but isn't part of the dropped section)."

The "slanty bit" does count as part of a dropped kerb.

igelkott2021 · 24/07/2021 14:00

Just to add a slightly different viewpoint on this - I saw a tweet this morning about someone moaning that there was someone else's Cessna plane parked on their driveway.

Yes, you read that right. A plane.

It was in the US though.

Sorry your neighbour moved OP.

Bernibolt · 24/07/2021 17:50

We're thinking about getting the H bar done but we've been ok for the majority of the 3 yrs we've lived in this house.
We do occasionally have people squeeze vehicles up to the very edge of the drop kerb though, so I think this could help to stop them edging there way beyond that.
Please let us know how you get on 😀

Yogalola · 24/07/2021 17:56

Have a couple of drinks then you can’t move the car, as you would be over the limit. Only hope the people don’t bump your car.

Annie202 · 24/07/2021 17:58

Get the car registration number and take photos! Just in case they damage your car trying to get out.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/07/2021 18:08

@peridito

Gosh you're easily angered aren't you OP ?

I was just going by your diagram - not obvious to me why you can't get your second car off the drive . But the point here is that you've indicated that you don't need to .So why are you so determined to make this a huge issue ?

No doubt it's a public spirited effort to highlight the rights of all dropped kerb owners .

Using the Read All thingy would have made it perfectly clear, if you couldn't be arsed to read the whole thread.

And, as others have said, you seem to be very forgiving of people who act selfishly when they are the instigator of an inconvenience but not at all forgiving if the person inconvenienced.

Why is that? Room much female socialisation? Be nice no matter the provocation?

And it's not exactly a huge issue is it? One inconvenienced prat parker and the owner if a driveway choosing to be amused rather than furious about it.

Pretty small amusement in my book!

swimlyn · 24/07/2021 18:08

How about drink all the wine and then draw a picture of a shit on the bonnet?
Just lately I've taken to using a Stanleyâ„¢ knife for drawing. You get a much cleaner line.

TotorosCatBus · 24/07/2021 18:14

I've only just found the thread but that might be the best diagram that I've seen on MN. 💯

exaltedwombat · 24/07/2021 18:26

With a foot to play with, they can get out. You might find your bumper gets touched a few times though.

If your H-bar is white, it's advisory. If yellow, YOU can't park over your drive either, which I doubt is what you want.

Jeannie88 · 24/07/2021 18:35

Some woman actually parked over my drive completely and blocked me in so put a note on her windscreen. She just drove off without even noticing it flapping about in the wind! Stupid cf, not sure what that means but sounds good! Oh I've been wanting to get that off my chest for years! Grin

whenyouknow1youknow1 · 24/07/2021 18:48

I live rurally, down a fairly long lane, single track. It widens just outside the house and then ends in a yard to turn in. I was cleaning out my car, Hoover etc just outside the house and parked in the middle of the wider bit. A man came racing up and stood on the horn and shouted at me to move and what was I doing hoovering in the middle of the road 😂 tried explaining to him that it was a private lane and he was having none of it. Kept asking where the 'road' would lead him as he was lost..wouldn't listen when I said my yard. Had to move my car to let him turn and the look on his face when he realised he had to drive back past me was priceless 🥴😂

Experiment627 · 24/07/2021 19:44

A parking thread!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Oh the pleasure I will get from reading through!

Experiment627 · 24/07/2021 20:49

Oh such a disappointment that the neighbour moved their car! I have so enjoyed reading through... and hats off to you @WatfordGap what an amazeballs diagram!!!

Lunar2020 · 24/07/2021 21:02

I absolutely love the the labels!! 😂 ‘Wankers car’ and ‘Blameless cars’, brilliant!

knickerelasticgonetwang · 24/07/2021 22:18

When they want you to move say you couldn’t possibly and show an empty wine bottle

Annamaywong25 · 24/07/2021 22:34

I comfort myself with these parking threads. My neighbours constantly block my car in, I'm glad it's not only me with this problem. I'm blocked in now, they have three cars and insist on parking right near their house no matter what. They have no drive. I have one bloody car! They know it drives me mad but don't care. I will be moving as soon as I am able due to this. After 11 years living here, they started to do this when my partner moved outand I bacame single. It's passive agressive bullying in my book. Angry

Yes i did see the diagram, but if you had studied it carefully, while it may show OP's driveway and the position of cars relative to it, it does not show the dropped curb limits not the H bar position which are relevant to whether anything wrong has been done or not.

Neither does it show whether or not OP drives or reverses onto their driveway
