Ditching my mask from today except for in hospital settings

Frittataz · 19/07/2021 06:46

Clearly this is fine legally speaking but AIBU to expect not to be asked to wear a mask from today onwards? I’ll wear one when attending hospital/doctors appointments but that’s it that’s were i draw the line. I shouldn’t be expected to explain myself right? I’ve wore a mask from the beginning and stuck to every rule. I won’t be rushing out to go to nightclubs as I didn’t do that before covid and i don’t suddenly feel the need to surround myself (closely) with lots of other people but I am looking forward to taking my daughter shopping and going to the cinema without having to wear a mask.

@TheGallopingGourmet

Please can I ask why having Bipolar makes somebody exempt from wearing a mask ?
No, you can’t. It’s none of your business.

Or are you one of those nob heads who challenge people with hidden disabilities about their blue badge/radar key usage too?

igelkott2021 · 19/07/2021 10:58

They can encourage you to wear one but they can’t legally refuse you service/entry without them

yes they can unless someone cannot wear one for disability/equality reasons.

A shop can decide its own rules. If it doesn't want to serve people wearing red jumpers, it can. If it doesn't want to serve people carrying purple rucksacks, it can. And if it doesn't want to serve people not wearing masks, it can.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 19/07/2021 10:58

So you posted this on AIBU Op, but deliberately didn't put the voting buttons. Wonder why?🤔

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 19/07/2021 11:00

As a shop worker who lost 2 friends through COVID, and has another friend who is still recovering and now registered as disabled, can I say that I utterly despise selfish people like you?

MotherOfDemons · 19/07/2021 11:00

Can I just point out that in a hospital, it's a large cluster of vulnerable and unwell people.

You wouldn't see the same amount of vulnerable people dotting about in Tesco, which is usually a lot more open and airy than a hospital anyway!

Yeah we all know. But the point is is that shopkeepers up and down the land won’t want the aggro of trying to deny entry to non-mask wearers and obviously they’ll also be thinking of their profits.

ah. so there's less of them, meaning the ones who are there don't matter. Excellent logic Hmm
SecretKeeper1 · 19/07/2021 11:03

Gosh, it appears not wearing a mask comes with a side effect of cuntiness.

Full sympathy with those that genuinely can not. Absolutely none for those who just will not - a good dose of Covid is surely the best antidote for them.

SprayedWithDettol · 19/07/2021 11:04

I’m wearing mine because I want to protect others who are vulnerable. I think if we all thought more about each other it would be a good thing. The ‘I’m all right Jack’ approach isn’t an attractive one.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 19/07/2021 11:04

It's alright, I'm sure OP will be the first to kick off if we have another lockdown.

Bettyboopawoop · 19/07/2021 11:05

Do you think your really cool op? You get on with not wearing your mask I will wear mine, don't come crying on here when we have another lockdown.

hawkehurstgang · 19/07/2021 11:07

Ughhh is wearing a mask REALLY that hard?!! It could literally save someone's life.

MotherOfDemons · 19/07/2021 11:11

@claralara42 Not sure exactly where I said that in my post, but you do you!

snowqu33n · 19/07/2021 11:11

People who “just say they’re exempt “ to avoid being challenged for not wearing a mask are like able bodied people who use the disabled person parking space.

Lalliella · 19/07/2021 11:12

@Frittataz

But they’re not a legal requirement and if I am asked to wear one in shops I will gently remind them of that.
How patronising. Perhaps they might gently remind you that it would be kind of you to wear a mask to protect their staff who have put themselves in the firing line of the virus and worked throughout the pandemic, especially now when cases are rising so quickly. But hey it’s all about you and your comfort isn’t it?
LakieLady · 19/07/2021 11:12

@TooBored1

Each to their own but I'll still be wearing mine. Rates are going through the roof.
I'll still be wearing mine in shops. We don't need more retail staff becoming unwell.

And if I use public transport, I'll wear one then, too.

They absolutely can.
There is a loophole, in that the equality act prevents discrimination against disability, and the person facing discrimination does not need to supply proof of a disability.

So, if you were an utter wanker, you could claim that you are except from wearing a mask when you are not, and shops cannot ask for proof of it.
————————————————

This is a collective and cumulative mutual health and safety issue.

No one need to know about your disabilities BUT only to know your just tested accurate Covid status as to potential health risk to others. Your disabilities your business BUT you potential Covid risk directly impacts all within the same enclosed breathing space. Shop keepers and public transportation operators are not interested in anything other than eliminating potential Covid vectors for spread so that other lawful shoppers and shop keepers as well as passengers are as safe as possible given the pandemic risks. No one wants to know your medical history other than had you just had a negative PCR or lateral flow test if you are blasé and don’t follow the science for your own let alone the safety of others in splitting distance. You may being unmasked bump into another unmasked and inadvertently super spreading. Perhaps choose to be close to other unmasked and see how that works out?

CynsterBitch · 19/07/2021 11:13

Just wanted to pop back and say that I was pleasantly surprised when I popped in to my local Asda, people wearing masks like before, common sense might not have been irradicated after all

MotherOfDemons · 19/07/2021 11:13

As a drip feed, I am exempt from wearing a mask so all the fuckers that don't will affect me.

It means that I am the one that makes adjustments to look after my own health and not go into Tesco's and rub up against people, instead opting for deliveries.

Thewiseoneincognito · 19/07/2021 11:14

Such a brave and wonderful thing to do @Frittataz you must feel so empowered and strong, congratulations on your bold wise decision.

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Idiot.

Sorry you didn't understand your own post, and think that "you do you" is any kind of response.

southeastdweller · 19/07/2021 11:16

It really is so telling that some people have to resort to insults on here.

I popped into a supermarket early this morning, there were quite a few people there already and most were wearing masks, two men weren't and one of the supermarket staff were arguing with them about it, telling them they should still be wearing one

LalalalalalaLand123 · 19/07/2021 11:21

Let's hope that most people have more common sense and respect for others than you do, OP.
