To ask if anyone is actually enjoying this weather?

I have felt sick and tired all day. Can't get comfortable, didn't sleep last night etc. Is anyone actually enjoying it as I am certainly not. Dreading work tomorrow also.

Yes, loving it. I don't like it very hot, but it's about 26° here in my bit of the NW of England (just outside the Lake District national park). We're all off school (dh and I are teachers, plus 2 teenage dc). Went paddleboarding today. Off for a walk and a picnic with friends tomorrow. Long may this weather last - we don't get much of it up here normally! I wouldn't want it any hotter though.

colouringindoors · 18/07/2021 21:22

It's too much. We seem to be either 16 degrees and grey or 31 and boiling. A 23 degree day would be perfect.

I don't know if it's age and/or being a bit overweight but I have been dripping with sweat today (tmi) and am struggling to keep hydrated, permanent headache.

Shedbuilder · 18/07/2021 21:23

No. 28 degrees here. Too hot for doing anything useful in the garden or house and beaches and beauty spots packed with people shrieking, getting sunburned and leaving piles of litter everywhere they go. Constant smell of burning meat in and smoke in our area from the barbecues.

When I lived in Pembrokeshire I'd encounter loads of Scandinavian and Dutch and German and French visitors who said how much they hated the heat and how much they appreciated the cooler temperatures in the UK.

Lockheart · 18/07/2021 21:23

I'm in London. It's currently (at 9.20pm) 32 degrees in my room. This is WITH all windows open and fans going.

It's torture.

I doubt I will sleep tonight and I have a banging headache. When you live in a houseshare you don't have the luxury of moving to another room to sit for the day - it's your room and that's it.

Isababybel · 18/07/2021 21:24

The only good thing is that my washing is drying in record time so ive been able to get lots done.
Other than that though it can get to fuck and i miss winter.

Shergill15 · 18/07/2021 21:28

Not me. I dont begrudge the heat lovers as it is so rare in the UK but this is too much for me personally. Up to about 25 is perfect, anything over that and I get migraines, brain fog and feel sick. And forget trying to sleep at night! Plus I hate that sweaty, sticky feeling and looking and feeling gross all day. My office is a portacabin so it's basically like being microwaved all day, plus the job I do its hard to dress for in the heat as a lot of typical summery stuff would be against the dress code/inappropriate.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 21:30

@peasoup8

We get so little hot weather in the UK

Not in the south-east. It’s generally like this every couple of weeks in the summer here.

So, very little.

I'm in the South East, I know what the weather is usually like! Mostly cold, wet and shit with very few decent hot days. It was pissing down regularly a few weeks ago. Truly miserable.

NinaNina83 · 18/07/2021 21:32

Absolutely loving it! Splashing in our blown up pool (with our two year old) makes this hot weather so much more pleasant 👍

Lockheart · 18/07/2021 21:35

Also the UK isn't supposed to get such warm weather. So for those saying "oh it's nice, we get so little of it" may want to consider the more sinister climate change implications behind the fact that we're getting high temperatures more and more.

If you want hot weather regularly, the UK is not the country for you.

But they’re higher more often as you say in first para?

I like this level. Where I’m from really does have a burning heat

DismantledKing · 18/07/2021 21:38

YANBU. Far too hot.

greatestdancer · 18/07/2021 21:38

I’m way too hot, my toddler has been an absolute nightmare all day as the heats getting to her and I’m still on the morning sickness stage of pregnancy so feeling worse than usual

Bellabelloo · 18/07/2021 21:38

Oh no! I can't believe so many people hate it! It's amazing! I wish the whole summer was like this.

Brigante9 · 18/07/2021 21:39

Hate it. Have to be up at the crack to walk the dogs, can’t swim them cos one is very unwell, the other has a sudden small hole in a wound the vet stitched 6 weeks ago, fuck knows how. The horse is stuck on box rest with strangles, I’m dripping every time I move. I’d go in the hot tub which is set at 34.5, but I’m spending the evening trying to persuade sick dog to eat.

I know!! I'd emigrate if I possibly could. But as I can't, I want to revel in the heat for as long as I can.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 21:43

If you never want a few occasional weeks of hot days the UK is not the country for you.

TheGoogleMum · 18/07/2021 21:45

We've tried to enjoy it getting paddling pool out and things but it just makes me feel unwell and bad headaches (I wore a hat whole time I was in the sun!). I wish I could enjoy it more but my body says no

lazylinguist · 18/07/2021 21:47

Also the UK isn't supposed to get such warm weather.

We don't get much of it. No more than I remember getting when I was a child in the 1970s/1980s.

whynotwhatknot · 18/07/2021 21:49

so it's a thread about not liking it so,make your own if you want

lollipoprainbow · 18/07/2021 21:49

No and I feel awful for saying it but I don't like the hot weather it makes me feel drained, irritable and headachey!! Give me Autumn any day.

whynotwhatknot · 18/07/2021 21:51

last year was nice from,March i don't know where everyone gets this, couple of weeks thing from

littlepieces · 18/07/2021 21:53

Absolutely LOVE it. Spending all day outside in weather like this makes me so happy. I love that quiet, hot stillness.

What you remember from your childhood is of no relevance.

Weather records show the UK is consistently warming. The 10 hottest years on record have all been recorded since 2002.

Short and selective memories.

The data does not bear out a lot of assumptions people make about the weather here.

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 18/07/2021 21:56

We've been to the beach tonight but it.is actually cooler in the garden. All we achieved was getting hotter.on car journey and covered with sand.

Drinking lager tonight, sure.i.will regret tomorrow...
