To ask if anyone is actually enjoying this weather?

I have felt sick and tired all day. Can't get comfortable, didn't sleep last night etc. Is anyone actually enjoying it as I am certainly not. Dreading work tomorrow also.

I hate it, can't wait for rain... Or just autumn, to be honest! Which is weird, as I used to live in a hotter country where these temperature were very much the norm, and would often hit 40°c+ during the summer months.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 22:59
@SoupDragon a heatwave every couple of weeks during summer is not “very little”. Anyway, it’ll be autumn then winter soon enough Smile
Yes it is. There are 52 weeks in the year of which maybe 4 in total are "heatwave" weather. The other 48 are varying degrees of shit.

The only thing I hate about the rare hot days we have are the people who start whining about it as soon as the first hint of something above 20 appears. If not before.

I find my mood plummeting considerably from 1st September onwards as I know there are months and months of grey and people going on about "cosy" blankets, snuggling in front of a fire and bloody hot chocolate. Totally miserable.

lollipoprainbow · 18/07/2021 23:00

@Ahhbiscuits it makes me feel depressed too bizarrely !

headintheproverbial · 18/07/2021 23:02

I absolutely love it. I also treated myself to aircon in our bedroom a few years ago so it never disrupts my sleep and we can retreat in the day if we need a cool down (sometimes two adults, two kids, a dog and a cat)

Blossomtoes · 18/07/2021 23:02

Me too @SoupDragon. We have eight months of cold, wet miserable weather and even that’s not enough for some people.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2021 23:03

As an aside, it's 29° here during the day, 27 at night, and masks are compulsory in public areas - you can imagine how pleasant that is! At least you won't have those from midnight!

mrsnoodle55 · 18/07/2021 23:03

Hate it. Today been outside wearing thick hot uniform designed for normal climates, heavy leather work boots. My feet nearly combusted today. Have sweat buckets and had wringing wet underwear all day, lovely. Frizzy hair, clammy skin due to the lashings of sun cream us gingers have to slap on just to push the burning back for a little while. I could cope sat in the garden in the shade with my feet in a paddling pool, but working in it is not fun.

Rosebel · 18/07/2021 23:11

I do enjoy warm weather but not this hot. Our house retains heat and is still like an oven now. Barely slept last night and doubt I will tonight either. I'd cope better if it cooled down to about 17 degrees at night
We went swimming which was the only time I was cool.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 18/07/2021 23:14

Hate it

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 18/07/2021 23:17

Hate it!! I can't wear any less clothing without being naked (not pretty) And I'm still too hot!
Roll on Autumn. You know where you are with a cardigan.

NotMyCat · 18/07/2021 23:18

@mrsnoodle55 I remember that from working as a carer. Polyester tunic, going house to house and everyone had the heating on. I thought I was going to turn into a puddle and was drinking about 3-4 litres of water a day

emilylily · 18/07/2021 23:19

Not particularly but I find using bar soap, roll on deodorant (proven to reduce sweating), wearing pure cotton t-shirts and sitting by a fan makes it bearable!

tohaveitall · 18/07/2021 23:21

I don't mind it when I'm out for the day like at a park (laying on a blanket, reading a book and eating fruit) or at the beach or out on the bike or something. But hate it when in the house or trying to sleep or actually do anything useful like run errands or housework. I am looking forward to autumn already I must say.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/07/2021 23:22

I absolutely despise it. Plus I'm on a nightmare of period.

You feel guilty moaning and griping though when you think of those poor people in those floods. I bet they'd swap their floods for our heatwave.

whynotwhatknot · 18/07/2021 23:24

@Ahhbiscuits

Absolutely despise this heat. It actually makes me feel depressed. July and August are my worst months of the year and I dread them completely. To the point where I have a whiteboard in my kitchen counting down the days till 1st September.. Blush
counting down with you and i get awful headaches unlike anything i have in winter
MrsMop1964 · 18/07/2021 23:28

Hate it.. I have polymorphic light eruption and sun exposure can lead to misery so I tend to stay in a lot anyway, but I also work in a kitchen which is hot all year round.

Sparrowsong · 18/07/2021 23:47

Love it, despite being overweight and burning easily! I finally feel warm and alive, my aches disappear. Hottest I’ve been in was 43c in Italy, now that was hot - this is nothing!

So many of you are going to really struggle with 40-50c heat when climate change really kicks up a notch (see Canada!) so you better get used to it now.

wheresmymojo · 18/07/2021 23:49

@Theunamedcat

Nope its made my poor cat quite ill he is now drinking but I ended up syringeing water into him this morning because he was sick and when he is sick he refuses water in winter this is non issue in this heat it is not something I can risk and after 6 hours of refusing food/fluids I was bloody worried thankfully after the water he ate some wet food and he is now drinking out the bath but its close call for him right now

Try buying some tuna in spring water and then giving him 1/4 tin tuna with a lot of extra water for his meals...

wheresmymojo · 18/07/2021 23:55

With climate change it's going to be like this more often - alternating between hot and wet.

I've come to the conclusion that we all need to prepare for this so in my south facing garden, as well as a massive parasol I'm also going to put up some kind of wooden structure, maybe like a pergola, with a retractable shade over the top.

Plus a large paddling pool.

I keep toying with a small air con unit for the bedroom but then think I'm adding to the climate change problem!

Disneyblue · 19/07/2021 00:08

Hate it. Anything over 25 and I'm inside.
I don't like the feel of heat on my skin.

I do like summer evenings though. Gin and tonic in the back garden at like 8pm when it's cooled off a bit - bliss.

EeeppP · 19/07/2021 00:10

I absolutely love it.

@Blossomtoes

Me too *@SoupDragon*. We have eight months of cold, wet miserable weather and even that’s not enough for some people.
Difference is when it's hot there's only so much you can do to cool down. When it's cold you can snuggle up, hot water bottle, hot chocolate, fire, all things I personally love. In fact I really enjoy winter because I prefer being inside generally. I also appreciate summer when it's here but I don't like being too hot. 'Some people' as you describe simply prefer different things. Nothing wrong with that right?
Sweettea1 · 19/07/2021 00:23

@TroysMammy

Why doesn't my house retain heat when the central heating goes off in winter but is a sweat box in the summer?
Snap.
SoupDragon · 19/07/2021 00:32

When it's cold you can snuggle up, hot water bottle, hot chocolate, fire, all things I personally love.

Bingo!

Snugglybuggly · 19/07/2021 00:35

Too hot tonight
