If they said “its a pleasure to announce I’m leaving”

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 14/07/2021 19:06

Well whether you find it funny or not, the truth is he or she will be leaving through choice and it will be a pleasure. So no not rude.

Why are you so pissed off about it?why do you care so much?

Regularsizedrudy · 14/07/2021 19:08

I would not care. Why do you?

SamMil · 14/07/2021 19:08

Well they obviously applied for another job because they wanted to, so they're just being honest!

me4real · 14/07/2021 19:10

It depends lol. If it's a retirement then fair enough, most people want to retire.

Not everyone likes every workplace/job- it's not necessarily a dig at you personally.

It's the dryness of it that makes it funny @TomForddr - it's a formal, polite register and then undercutting it by what they say at the end. A lot of humour is down to statements that surprise or are a bit naughty. Do you often find humour difficult to understand/appreciate?

SpeckledlyHen · 14/07/2021 19:10

Christ if I worked with @TomForddr I would be running out of there like I had a firecracker up my arse.. No, it is not wildly witty, we can all agree on that but it's witty because it emulates a huge great big V sign to the likes of the OP. That is the blessed irony of it which makes it funny.

me4real · 14/07/2021 19:10

It seems like you dislike them, anyway, so...

FrownedUpon · 14/07/2021 19:11

No it isn’t rude. Not sure why it would bother you so much.

girlmom21 · 14/07/2021 19:14

@TomForddr

I’m surprised so many find it “funny” and “brilliant”

It’s hardly the amazing words of a great comic.

I'm going to assume this is someone you don't like and that everyone else laughed?
Bluesheep8 · 14/07/2021 19:14

*I find it quite ironic you posted this on another thread

TomForddr

Omg OP I could never be you. What a drain over such a simple thing that was already 50% over when you posted.

What a load of drama over a non event.*

The irony is in the last line

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/07/2021 19:18

Why have you come to the conclusion it’s a woman?

I generally assume that a person of unknown sex is a woman, because I have a 50% chance of being right no matter which sex I assume so why not a woman? Also, the default human has been a man for far too long, we should all assume someone of unknown sex to be female every time to redress the balance.

WeBurnedSoBrightWeBurnedOut · 14/07/2021 19:21

Maybe they were finally leaving to start the career they'd always wanted? In which case I think it was meant well.

Or they had been treated badly I would find it funny.

Going for a promotion, funny.

Any other scenario and I'd saaay, yeah still funny Grin

tallduckandhandsome · 14/07/2021 19:27

@Pl242

This reminds me of a former colleague who, in their leaving speech, said “it’s been a pleasure to work with about half of you”.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

BB

Aprilx · 14/07/2021 19:31

It really isn’t that funny and I find it odd that anyone would think it hilarious. I think it is quite impolite towards colleagues and management to be honest, why leave on such a sour note.

pinkcircustop · 14/07/2021 19:34

I think OP is resentful they are leaving and she’s stuck there so feeling bitter about a funny throwaway comment 🤷‍♀️

Cue OP’s replies of how she isn’t bitter or resentful and loves her job

DoorAjar · 14/07/2021 19:34

Perhaps they didn’t deserve politeness. Perhaps they’re why the person is leaving.

How on earth can any of us decide whether this is rude or not without knowing the facts and a few (annoying) lines of vague text from the OP? He/she could be leaving to travel the world, start a new business they have always dreamed of doing, having a baby.. all sorts of congratulatory reasons why they could be celebrating leaving and it being all related to their personal aspirations rather than their work ones
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/07/2021 19:38

Not at all. I've seen a leaving card that said something like...
"Congratulations from the Escape Committee"
Well, I thought it was funny!

Looubylou · 14/07/2021 19:38

Could be funny for eg if said in a department which has been treat crap, in a large organisation. Then everyone would get it and wish you well hopefully. I can equally see scenarios where it could be very rude.

Bluesheep8 · 14/07/2021 19:40

Yep

Bluntness100 · 14/07/2021 19:40

The truth is some workplaces are a pleasure to leave. And some workplaces habe some right arsehole colleagues so saying to them it’s a pleasure to leave would be one of life’s little joys. It’s the polite way to say “fuck you” on the way out.

Nuuktown · 14/07/2021 19:40

Don’t worry OP, I’m sure your day will come one day!

Immunetypegoblin · 14/07/2021 19:42

Are you planning on providing some context soon OP?

MouseholeCat · 14/07/2021 19:46

I mean, maybe if I was their manager but I've never managed someone who would be unhappy enough to say that.

Otherwise, I'd find it hilarious!

Bluesheep8 · 14/07/2021 19:46

Hang on a minute, is OP leaving and thinking of saying this?

Ghosttile · 14/07/2021 19:47

It wasn’t followed by ‘to live my best life and build my MLM business’ was it?
