Would you find this rude? Colleague leaving?

If they said “its a pleasure to announce I’m leaving”

OP posts:
Dentistlakes · 14/07/2021 19:52

Not rude but I would’t do it myself. It’s a very small world and chances are you’re likely to come across ex colleagues again or even return to the same company. Better a standard it’s been a pleasure working with you (even if it hasn’t ).

Crunchymum · 14/07/2021 19:53

I think you need to unpick why you feel the way you do.

Are you jealous? Do you want to leave?
Do you like the person and feel offended they aren't more "sad" to be leaving? Do you have a crush on the leaver?

Why does it bother you so?

Noterook · 14/07/2021 19:54

Haha no I think it's funny!

Bellend101 · 14/07/2021 19:57

That's hilarious 🤣

grapewine · 14/07/2021 20:03

@Aprilx

It really isn’t that funny and I find it odd that anyone would think it hilarious. I think it is quite impolite towards colleagues and management to be honest, why leave on such a sour note.
Maybe it's an awful work environment, and the person leaving is happy to escape. Some coworkers and managers are shit and don't deserve you being polite when you can finally be honest.
moovinon · 14/07/2021 20:06

I would definitely find it funny.
I think all of the people I work with would laugh their head off at someone saying this too.

DappledThings · 14/07/2021 20:06

I don't get it. I don't think it's either rude or funny, just a normal way for someone to announce they have a new job which is presumably something they wanted. I don't think it would have registered with me as either offensive or a joke.

DroopyClematis · 14/07/2021 20:12

She ain't coming back, is she?

HideousKinky · 14/07/2021 20:15

The humour would be in the tone with which the line was delivered

Thedogscollar · 14/07/2021 20:18

@TomForddr
Here have some salt n vinegar for that great big chip on your shoulder. 🙄

Livpool · 14/07/2021 20:19

It is what I would like to say to be honest!

KatherineJaneway · 14/07/2021 20:21

I'd need context to judge

ChicChaos · 14/07/2021 20:34

If the workplace was not a fun place to be working in, I'd probably think it was amusing. If the person saying that was a complete pain to work with I'd think they were rude and possibly deluded but it would certainly be a pleasure to hear the news!

Babycarrottt · 14/07/2021 20:46

I put something similar when I left. It wasn't a dig at my colleagues but at the awful company I worked for. During my exit interview I was asked to fill in a short questionnaire. One of the questions was "what do you think of Xxx's principles?", to which I replied "I didn't realise (company name) had any principles".
Don't take it personally OP.

WhileMyMeringueGentlyWeeps · 14/07/2021 20:49

Jeez when the last colleague left my work I got a card for them that said Congratulations!

PearlNextDoor · 14/07/2021 20:53

@Pl242

This reminds me of a former colleague who, in their leaving speech, said “it’s been a pleasure to work with about half of you”.
😂
TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 14/07/2021 20:57

@TomForddr
‘ I mean this haha, humour is subjective but come on it could hardly be classed as “laugh out loud” or “brilliant”’
What is funny is not so much the statement, but the reaction it gets. I’d probably snort with laughter if there were some cats bum face reactions to it and mild offence, and it’s probably be funnier generally just the history of the interplay of all the characters involved.

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 14/07/2021 20:58

I once got a leaving card saying ‘you’ve made the right decision for your colleagues and this company’ 😂

FuchMyLife · 14/07/2021 21:01

Why are you taking it so personally??

You've not really given us much to go on so we're struggling to see if from your perspective

me4real · 14/07/2021 21:01

@TheViewFromTheCheapSeats Oh dear, sounds like sour grapes. Grin

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 14/07/2021 21:09

It would make me laugh

AlfiesMama85 · 14/07/2021 21:15

I recently resigned from my job whilst off sick and did not even tell any of my colleagues. (My manager did, via email).

They were a group of bitchy, gossiping, vile women - absolute bullies. I could not wait to get away from them and did contemplate sending a mass email to say as such, but refrained. I can imagine they are completely baffled by the fact I did not say goodbye and that they are all blocked on my phone.

Perhaps rather than this colleague being “rude” they were just happy to be getting out of there?!

endoflevelbaddy · 14/07/2021 21:17

We had a manager announce he was moving on recently. One of my team mates chipped in to tell him how happy we were to see him go! I had to go on mute to hide my snorts - this team member is well known for muddling her words, so assume it was a slip up, but those of us that had worked closely with this manager were certainly not sorry he was off Grin

Okigen · 14/07/2021 21:24

Oh I love this Grin

hedgehogger1 · 14/07/2021 21:24

I wish I'd said a lot more than that when I left my last job!
