Would you find this rude? Colleague leaving?

If they said “its a pleasure to announce I’m leaving”

OP posts:
Bargebill19 · 14/07/2021 23:52

Not assuming they made it up at all. Just the information wasn’t given that it was in an email until 10 pages later. I don’t assume it was an email either.
As an email I would have just deleted and ignored. As an email it’s neither funny nor rude as it has zero context, very much like a lot of jokes, it’s how it’s told that makes it one or the other. An email missed that. It’s just plain words no nuances. An email is for blunt facts especially when work email is used.
As I said had the fact that it was an email the response the op for may well have been different a moment would definitely have been. Not funny but neither rude just meh and delete.

spinningaroundthemoon · 14/07/2021 23:54

I agree.

Bargebill19 you’ve been particularly nasty in this thread. Got called out for troll hunting which you were doing and then got all defensive.

Bargebill19 · 14/07/2021 23:57

Exactly when was I troll hunting??? Asking for more info? Umm it the one accusing the op of another thread!

Bargebill19 · 14/07/2021 23:57

I’m not the one accusing the op of another thread.

Didn’t you try and say they were lying because seemed to think you were Sherlock Holmes and how could they have heard it if they weren’t in an office.
Bargebill19 · 15/07/2021 00:00

No that wasn’t me. It was another user who was saying that. Try reading my posts.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/07/2021 00:02

This whole thread has been pretty unpleasant. Someone accused the OP of saying something with no evidence either way, and a load of other people jumped in and laughed at her. Other people tried to make out that it was still her because she knew what to google to find the thread. And then Bargebill jumped in with a comment that appeared to imply the OP was making it up because if she hadn't been in the office then how would she know what had been said.

I'm sure you're all really pleased with yourselves but it can't have been fun to have been on the receiving end of it.

Bargebill19 · 15/07/2021 00:02

I did ask them how they could have heard it if they hadn’t been in an office - perfectly valid question.

Bargebill19 · 15/07/2021 00:04

So yep sorry for asking a perfectly valid question. Which turned out everyone else magically knew.

spinningaroundthemoon · 15/07/2021 00:05

Bargebill19 read the comment above yours and it just shine some light on your crappy actions tonight.

Getting defensive again aren’t we?

Also no one magically knew, I think they just used their common sense.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/07/2021 00:09

@Bargebill19

I did ask them how they could have heard it if they hadn’t been in an office - perfectly valid question.
But the OP never said she'd "heard it".
spinningaroundthemoon · 15/07/2021 00:12

And you clearly weren’t asking just for more information. You were trying to play it out as a gotcha moment.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 15/07/2021 00:13

To back up @Bargebill19 for a second here, OP said in their first post “if they said…” which I took as it had been said in person. I also didn’t realise it was all via email until OP said.

In my workplace it wouldn’t be the done thing via email, maybe to HR/management, but there wouldn’t be a group email or whatever to everyone so I get why they asked that.

cherry2727 · 15/07/2021 00:14

Are you ok op? Im a bit concerned as one of your previous responses stated that you lost your dp last year . If you are feeling depressed I suggest you speak to your doctor and definitely stay off Mumsnet for a while . Unless I'm misreading it sounds like you've been through a lot lately - you have my sympathy Daffodil

Bargebill19 · 15/07/2021 00:17

No I wasn’t playing it out as a gotcha moment. A LOT of other posters had been asking for context and not getting it. Then there is a post stating the op was out of the office and having read “they said” and relating to that as as hears not read, I asked for clarification. I also said why.
If that’s trolling then so has every poster on every thread who’s asked for a specific thing to be clarified.

Bargebill19 · 15/07/2021 00:17

@AColdDuncanGoodhew. Thank you. That’s how I read it.

Bargebill19 · 15/07/2021 00:20

@spinningaroundthemoon no
Not defensive. But I’ve zero idea how the op opening post could remotely be taken as an email. No mention whatsoever of wfh either. The workplace could have been anywhere.
A lot of posters either know the op or make a lot of assumptions out of very few words.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/07/2021 00:21

It's good to see some people on here actually aware there is a person behind the posts. I also hope the OP is OK despite the pile-on and troll-hunting.

whatausername · 15/07/2021 01:26

I've said very similar before. My colleagues congratulated me, the job was crap and the business vile. All my workmates were looking for outs too.

Anyway, not everyone likes every job. All people have to do is to be reliable and competent, demanding people like their job is approaching delusional. It's preferable to enjoy your job but it's only preferable.

HR doesn't give traditional references any more but I can see that you might not want to burn any bridges. As long as they said it with a smile it can pass as a rather cliche joke.

SingingInTheShithouse · 15/07/2021 08:44

😂😂😂

Not rude but honest maybe

I did that once, I wasn't there long, about 6 months, but the company thanks to lazy assed staff was dreadful. The whole culture was about creaming extra wages with overtime & not working in office hours, instead of getting the job done, even though well paid. Not how I work & as a result they were nasty snide gits to me.

I said pretty much exactly that & meant it Grin
