To think my sister’s children should share a bedroom?

Going on a week away in the UK with dsis’ family.

There are 4 ‘kids’, two of mine, and my sister’s two.

There are three bedrooms for between the four.

We used to do this holiday every year, but have not for the last two years.

My kids (!) are aged 23 (m) and 26 (m). Dsis kids are 15(m) and 17 (f).

Every other year, my youngest son, and his male cousin have shared a room. Now that my ds is 23 and has moved out etc, he’s said he’s not keen on sharing. My eldest ds gets his own room, as does my niece. My niece has already assumed that she is getting her own room.

AIBU to think that my sister’s kids should share a room seeing as they are closer in age?

I wouldn't expect teenagers of different sexes to share a room.

trilbydoll · 13/07/2021 20:06

They're too old to share mixed sex imo

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 13/07/2021 20:06

I wouldn't expect teenagers of different sexes to share a room, even if they are brother and sister.

This.

I’d have said it makes more sense for your two to share personally. It’s only a week!

MerryChristmasToYou · 13/07/2021 20:06

I wouldn't expect teenagers of different sexes to share a room either.

ChequerBoard · 13/07/2021 20:07

Girl gets her own room, after that the boys sort out between themselves - they are more than old enough!

Can't see it makes much odds whether the brothers share or the two younger boys share 🤷‍♀️

This.

It’s up to the lads to share, as there’s more of them. A single 17 year old girl should not have to share with her 15 year old brother.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 13/07/2021 20:07

If I was one of those, any of the ages, I wouldn't want to go. A week sharing a room at that age with no privacy. No thanks

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/07/2021 20:08

Girl needs own room.
Boys can fight it out between themselves.

Daftness · 13/07/2021 20:08

I agree that the teens shouldn't share but maybe your two boys get first pick of the rooms? So would get the largest?

user47000000000 · 13/07/2021 20:08

Your kids should share

JoveWhenHeSawMyFannysFace · 13/07/2021 20:08

I’d find somewhere with another bedroom - can completely understand your youngest not wanting to share (would he and his brother share?) but I wouldn’t expect opposite sex teenagers to share.

If the “kids” are that age, they could pay towards the extra bedroom needed!

Terrazzo · 13/07/2021 20:08

They’re all too old to share IMO 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would have booked different accommodation (helpful I know).

RaspberryRoyale88 · 13/07/2021 20:08

When I was 17 I would not have wanted to share a room with my brother.
I can understand a 23 year old man not wanting to share with a 15 year old so therefore he should share with the other man.

Nuuktown · 13/07/2021 20:08

If you’re worried about age, why don’t your kids share? They’re only a year further apart than their cousins plus they’re both male so that solves that too.
If they don’t like it, I’m sure your kids are old enough to book a room elsewhere if it’s that big an inconvenience to them

ArchieStar · 13/07/2021 20:08

If I had to share a room with my brother at that age I wouldn’t go. Or if insist on sleeping on the couch. Urgh. YABU.

Marmite27 · 13/07/2021 20:08

I also wouldn’t expect your 23 year old son to share with his 15 year old cousin.

Your sons are the same sex and closer in age and should be sharing IMO.

Yep this! Are any of the 'kids' paying towards the holiday?
GetTaeFuck · 13/07/2021 20:09

Are you fucking real?

Your precious adult son expects a teenage girl to share with a teenage boy?

Woeismethischristmas · 13/07/2021 20:09

With those ages it makes sense for your two to share. Closest in age, same sex wouldn’t expect your niece to share.

Terrazzo · 13/07/2021 20:10

Ok but one of the two younger boys is a grown man 😄

UrAWizHarry · 13/07/2021 20:10

I think it's entirely reasonable for the only female to have her own room.

Not sure why you didn't get a place large enough to give everyone their own room if nobody is willing to share.

As it is, I would expect your two sons to share as they are both adults and the other two are still teenagers.

JohnnyLuLus · 13/07/2021 20:11

23 and 26 yo should share. They are the closest in age same-sex pairing.

17 yo girl should definitely not be expected to share with male sibling or cousin. As the only girl she is right to assume.

ArchieStar · 13/07/2021 20:11

I call reverse actually, no one can think it reasonable that two teenage siblings of the opposite sex share a room.

Procrastination4 · 13/07/2021 20:11

You are being absolutely ridiculous expecting your teenage niece and nephew to share a bedroom.
