To think bangers and mash implies veg too?

My kids love sausage and mash. I always do it with at least one type of veg, preferably two. Peas, carrots, broccoli sort of thing.

We stayed with PIL a while ago and MIL did sausage and mash that was exactly that - sausage, mash, gravy. Then recently my DM did the same.

It won't do DC any harm but I thought it was odd. I don't think I'd ever give DC just meat + potato for dinner unless it was a desperate situation. AIBU to think it's weird to have a dinner with no veg?

Oh my god, just the thought of what ketchup and mash would look like is turning my stomach.

Why would you mix up the ketchup and mash? It's not gravy. Just a dollop next to the sausages is fine.

I served lasagna at the weekend, with garlic bread and salad. I mean it’s not a healthy meal either way, but I really enjoy the freshness of a green salad with the rich meat sauce.

Even on the same plate is too close for me! Grin

We've just had sausage and mash with onion gravy (inspired by this thread). We had green beans with it.*

It was delicious!

*As an experiment, I ate the beans first, effectively on their own, and then had the soss 'n' mash au naturelle (avec the onion gravy (sauce a l'oignion?).

Those posters who say you don't need veg are right. I am converted. Soss, mash and gravy is a complete meal, and a glorious one, too!

@MerryChristmasToYou

I include a portion of fruit or veg in everything. I'm stirring my tea with a leek right now.

I make bangers and mash for my family 2 adults+5 DC out of one large potato and 3 sausages (DH has a manual job so he has a whole one) and 23 different vegetables.

This is the best post on the thread!
