School children arriving late on Monday due to Footie

This was doing the rounds on my social media today, I am a teacher, so Is it just me or is this a bad idea? Children have hardly been in school this year anyway. More importantly, I feel that it’s teaching our children the wrong life lesson. Surely, if you choose to stay up late then suck it up on Monday! You can’t be swanning in late on a Monday to work after a weekend of partying.... interested to know if it’s just me. For the record, I enjoy watching football!

@Drovememad You obviously have no idea about safeguarding and appear to be incapable of understanding what I am saying, so I will leave it here and wish everyone a safe, happy and positive football match. I'll be in at 8 tomorrow as usual and looking out for the welfare of all our children.

Time2b33 · 11/07/2021 19:39

Fucking hell are people still arguing about this? 😂

Drovememad · 11/07/2021 19:41

@ZeusandClio you've obviously got anxiety issues, get the help you need!!!

Don't pass it on to your children

Drovememad · 11/07/2021 19:43

@ZeusandClio your a true hero! Beautiful no in at 8 and saving all the children!

I agree with @ZeusandClio. I will be in the school office from 8 am tomorrow hoping that parents keep us informed but knowing full well that lots won’t.

It's a bit like your child having a doctors appointment in the morning, so will be late to school, you let them know.

Sounds so simple doesn’t it? But our parents rarely bother!

Whose children? You aren't looking after my children tomorrow. Neither are in school. Hmm

Drovememad · 11/07/2021 19:56

@LadyDanburysCane you'll not be looking out for the welfare of my children!

You must be an angel to look after so many children!!

I’m with both of you, I’ll be in school as well. Unfortunately those on this thread are showing typical “football mentality” brains …. Or should that be lack of them.

Strictly1 · 11/07/2021 20:12

@Yolanda524

It’s ridiculous and makes me furious actually. I have asked for time out of school to see family who live abroad and it was denied. A friend had her request to take son out of school for her wedding denied. There are lots of things important to us. The football is not important to everyone they should be consistent or relax and allow special time for families when requested.
You can determine when you see family or get married so slightly different.

I am not even watching it. I am laid in bed watching old series of Greys. I am getting up at about 2.30am for work.

Some of us are nor fussed about the football, but also don't think this is a big deal.

BillyShears · 11/07/2021 20:17

It’s once in a generation- or has proven to be for us- we give kids days off for royal weddings and
all sorts of stuff way less important to people than this! A couple of hours is hardly going to matter. And I say this as mother of kids at school and a teacher.

Unsoliciteddeckpic · 11/07/2021 20:19

Is everyone objecting to the extra bank Holiday next year too?

I will definitely be looking out for all the children who attend my school, especially the ones where we know their own parents really don’t care about keeping them safe. Those are the parents who won’t bother about keeping us informed whether that is by email, text, phone or semaphore. Having had to stay at school with a scared child until after 6pm last week while police and social workers did what needed to be done I can assure that I don’t take safeguarding and child protection lightly.

So sweet of you to call me an angel but no, I’m just a responsible human being who has experience of how important proper safeguarding is.

Yes I actually am! A ridiculous idea - a national holiday for the football? Never heard something so stupid
Unsoliciteddeckpic · 11/07/2021 20:40

@doesparentingsuck the one next year isn't for football.

doesparentingsuck · 11/07/2021 20:45

@Unsoliciteddeckpic Whats it for? It's new to me then I didn't know

Drovememad · 11/07/2021 20:47

I just know we get and extra 4 day weekend Grin

Unsoliciteddeckpic · 11/07/2021 20:51

Yep, platinum jubilee

doesparentingsuck · 11/07/2021 20:56

@Unsoliciteddeckpic lol as the queen is head of state I would agree with her being able to set a public holiday - I think that's fair enough

Of course not! Where did I say that? 🤔

WarriorN · 11/07/2021 21:01

Bloody glad Dh is in with ds, 8, tonight as I will be putting on the ear plugs soon and having a lovely sleep.

Ds can go in up till 10:00 am tomorrow, I've said it will be the "up to" part of that.

He's making the absolute most of it all!

I didn't say she can't.

Boris can set one for the football. But not everyone is interested in the Queen or even wants her.

Kids will lose more education. Regardless of the reason.

That's my point. We do get extra time off for national events.
