There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

@toocold54 he didn't ignore it, he didn't even notice it!

I thought the Danish press were horrendous today, using covid death figures as a joke about how they should just let the English have this one.

The English tabloids have done a lot worse.

I’m appalled by some of what our media say about Germany but what have our media done to Denmark that is worse than gloating that we have lost so many lives to covid?
Doodlebug71 · 08/07/2021 22:34

@Userg1234

Right point 1 the laser yes shit. But you clearly have no idea about following England. Let's have some examples of where we were cheated out of games :
  • Maradona hand ball
  • Lampard goal not given dispite being over t the line
  • Sol.Campbell goal disallowed for no reason
  • Foul on Rooney which removed him from the tournament but no penalty kick
I could go on...bet your not English
I bet your not English [sic]

You serious? After that post?

I didn't watch the match, and don't watch sport in general. I look at MN at random times... and this is what people are fighting about. Not the policing bill that passed recently, but this.

If only people were as passionate about things that actually mattered. Like that policing bill.

Morsmordre · 08/07/2021 22:34

@User135644

Plenty of vile stuff on Twitter last night from the Danish fans

I don't think that's fair. Twitter can be vile anyway but the Danes, particularly their team and manager, have been very restrained after being cheated out of the game.

Still peddling the 'Cheat'. If you keep saying it - it doesn't make it true 🤣 Goalie made the save but was too slow to respond to the follow up - end of.

Best Goalie in the premier league and was Man of the Match in my opinion - but flapped it on the night. It's not a tainted victory for me when they win on Sunday - just bitter fans from other nations who have been kicked out the competition and hating the fact 'Ingurlaaand' made the final. Laughable! 🤣🤣🤣

VienneseWhirligig · 08/07/2021 22:34

If that fan is identified, they will be fined, and banned from every stadium in the country for at least a year if not for longer. The safety officer at Wembley is not known for his tolerance of laser pens and breaches of ground regulations. You can't punish everyone else for the sake of one twat. Also, who cheated? You are suggesting that the result shouldn't stand? So in that case, are you suggesting that the team had encouraged the idiot to shine that laser pen? If you aren't, then how could the team be accused of cheating? And as others have said Schmeichel saved it. He just wasn't quick enough for the rebound.

AlmostSummer21 · 08/07/2021 22:35

@LaserPointer

So had England lost 2-1 after Pickford had been dazzled by danish supporters when trying to save the winning penalty then all of you would have accepted that?

The hypocrisy……

But I know you’ll never admit it. Winning - even if by cheating - is all that counts.

Grow up. He didn't even know a laser had been used until he was told afterwards stop being so churlish that England won.
gardeninggirl68 · 08/07/2021 22:35

other teams fans have been known to misuse laser pens, thats nothing new....its not exclusive to England fans

same with the boo-ing national anthems

interesting why the op is only picking on England fans....wonder why?

SlipperyDippery · 08/07/2021 22:36

Yes, if only people would stop discussing football on Mumsnet the policing bill would never have passed.

Sloaneslone · 08/07/2021 22:36

England have always given as good as they got in the dark arts, but the fans still bleat on about a handball from the 80's

But would they keep bringing it up, if people didn't keep bringing up the fact they claim England cheated? Just because a decision went their way?

I know loads of English people. The Hand of God is usually brought up as a joke or a rebuttal.

Most people I know, English, Irish and scottish were genuinely saddened when Maradona died.

username18702 · 08/07/2021 22:36

Reference to Harry Potter isn't it? Dark Arts. Maybe this twat is getting football confused with Quidditch.

WorraLiberty · 08/07/2021 22:36

@ExtraOnions

I think some of these people have never heard of the various “Ultra” football gangs about Europe … make the England fans look like teddy bears …
I know.

I dropped a link on one of these whingey whiney anti England threads the other day, about various football thug gangs from other countries.

Strangely enough the thread disappeared shortly after with a message from MNHQ saying "The OP has asked us to take the thread down as they regret posting it".

Strange that...

remy3 · 08/07/2021 22:37

My husband was once kicked to the ground by “football fans” from a certain Eastern European country. He doesn’t even follow football and was just walking down the street on a city break. What had he done? Nothing. He’s part Indian, that’s all. Yet even he has the sense to know that they don’t represent the whole bloody country. Thugs and idiots like that represent nobody but themselves. Get a life OP.

Bovrilly · 08/07/2021 22:38

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

Cheating. Cheats. Shameful. I’m English. I don’t think England should benefit from this. The England I’m from doesn’t believe in cheating.
Who cheated?
ExtraOnions · 08/07/2021 22:38

I’ve been to a number of World Cups and European Championships … the most scared I have ever been was watching Serbia (can’t remember who against), we were in the Serbian end, and they were all chanting “Serbia” and giving Nazi salutes …

SlipperyDippery · 08/07/2021 22:38

I’m too young to remember the Hand of God and literally couldn’t give a fuck, and it has nothing to do with my reasons for being so pissed off at the mindless anti-England bullshit that’s poisoning Mumsnet at the moment

MrsGRamsay · 08/07/2021 22:39

I effing give up. England fans can’t even sing their own songs - apart from Baddiel / Skinner / Lightning Seeds Dirge.

They rip off Galatasaray’s “Seven Nation Army” version; much more rousing in Instanbul.

Thats actually made me laugh out loud - These threads are beyond ridiculous now but thinking Gareth Southgate is some sort of demon satanic wizard is probably up there with the most mental

Yes but were they respectful during the national anthems?

About the Danish team?

I wasn't comparing the media. O was making a statement that I thought making a joke out of covid deaths isn't ok.

Are you saying it is OK to make vile jokes, if someone else has made vile jokes?

Justanotherlurker · 08/07/2021 22:40

The English tabloids have done a lot worse.

So all sides are the same?

You just didn't like the result and are this wound up over england winning because you had to delay your glee in an england loss, did you have a witty quip of how you could relate it to brexit/anti tory that you had seen on twitter you wanted to repackage as your own?

saleorbouy · 08/07/2021 22:40

Hardly a night to celebrate really, poor form from supporters booing and jeering, and then scraping through to the final with a Danish own goal and scoring from a dubiously gained penalty with a laser distracted goalie.
Last night I remembered why I stopped watching football. If only there was some respect from the fans and players for the rules, the ref and honourable sportmanship. Seemingly its ok to hassle the ref and feign injury or dive to gain tactical advantage.

Bovrilly · 08/07/2021 22:41

Did you even see the game? Schmeichel wasn't dazzled and he saved the penalty.

AlmostSummer21 · 08/07/2021 22:41

@LaserPointer

I realise the English desperation to win. I really do - aside from the fan behaviour I was backing them as it must be so humiliating to never have won it.

But I cannot believe the lack
Of condemnation of a physical attack on the goalkeeper.

There would have been riots of it had been the other way round

🙄🙄well, England were no more 'desperate' to win than any other team & no it's not humiliating not to have won before now, not many countries have.

There has been plenty of condemnation the the idiot with the laser, you're just choosing not to see it

Why are you being such a goady git?

Cam77 · 08/07/2021 22:42

Come on let’s cut the crap everyone.
It was a pretty soft pen.
The ref should have been told to check it on the pitch side screen.
BUT I’ve seen much worse penalties/“looking for the contact” at important internationals. There was contact, albeit minimal - and the Danish lads were playing with fire with their half assed challenges. Lastly of course, England were the better team and deserved to go through on balance of play - and Denmark were getting away with a lot of persistent fouling. 21 fouls (including only those blown for and not the other half dozen missed ) and just one yellow?

ExtraOnions · 08/07/2021 22:42

Oh, I didn’t know Galatasaray had taken out a copywrite on Seven Nation Army (a song used by clubs all over ) … nice they are singing, instead of murdering Leeds fans … (look how I have tarred all the fans with the same brush, doesn’t make much sense does it)
