There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

SoupDragon · 08/07/2021 22:43

Strangely enough the thread disappeared shortly after with a message from MNHQ saying "The OP has asked us to take the thread down as they regret posting it".

And this one was started by someone under a namechange so they can avoid any fall out.

GrealishHairband · 08/07/2021 22:43

Schmeichel saved the penalty. Kane scored on the follow up. The laser did not impede his ability at all. That’s not to say I agree with it, far from it, the person who did it should be caught and banned from football matches for life. But every single other England fan with a ticket for the final should not be penalised!

SlipperyDippery · 08/07/2021 22:43

They rip off Galatasaray’s “Seven Nation Army” version; much more rousing in Instanbul

Oh now that is like a knife to the heart

Anyway, I thought it was a Brugge song, and more to the point interested on your views on the Leeds United fans getting stabbed by Galatasaray fans?

Bumblenums1234 · 08/07/2021 22:43

@LaserPointer

Ok. I have my answer

Personally would have been mortified if my own country’s fans had done this.

Good luck Sunday. Hope you win fair and square.

Are you going to tell us your country then so we can slam your fans too? Or is this strictly and England bashing thread?
User135644 · 08/07/2021 22:44

I’m appalled by some of what our media say about Germany but what have our media done to Denmark that is worse than gloating that we have lost so many lives to covid?

I don't think our media have done a lot to Denmark tbh. I honestly think some of their more reactionary media will regret that reaction. They felt cheated last night and lost their heads.

RLOU30 · 08/07/2021 22:44

The goal was not scored as a result of the laser blocking any view (thankfully). If you look at the footage you can see it didn’t go into Schmeichels eye and he went on to save the pen with eye contact on the ball the whole time.

Even without the soft pen being given we were upping the pressure and Denmark were playing with 10 men as they had used all their subs. Had we not scored the pen already chances are we we have scored another way.
How can you say all fans should be banned. I know a few kids that went yesterday and created childhood memories for life. More will go Sunday and enjoy the game and that is exactly what it is all about.
Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

toocold54 · 08/07/2021 22:44

Anyone who boos during a national anthem or shines a strong laser on someone should be banned in any country, in any fan base.

It seems there are some people on here that get very triggered if you appear to be anything but praising England and hating the other counties.

I am English and I support England - why are some people getting so upset when people call out unacceptable behaviour. I bet these threads would be completely different if it was 2-1 to Denmark and someone had shone a laser pen on our goalie.
A lot of these responses are like when someone is accused of being racist and you get people saying yes but black people can be racist too. Or BLM and someone saying WLM too. It’s ridiculous.

It’s daft to say the goalkeeper didn’t notice as I can guarantee if you had a laser darting around your face and in your eyes you would notice.

Cam77 · 08/07/2021 22:45

@saleorbouy
Yep, absolutely. Being the better team and dominating the semifinal and reaching their first final in 55 years, with a likeable young team standing against racism and a fantastic thoughtful young manager. Terrible night for English football.

Sloaneslone · 08/07/2021 22:46

@Bumblenums1234 op is still off trying to Google which fans cause no trouble so she can say she is from there. Grin

TheRosesOfSuccess · 08/07/2021 22:46

I'm so sick of these threads. No-one has the guts to say football is for common people, I'm not common so I hate football and its supporters. Let's call the undercurrent of snobbery out for what it really is.

I'm sure the police will be scouring CCTV to find the person with the laser, and they will be banned from watching football and most likely prosecuted. As they should be.

Have you actually watched the video ? He doesn’t react to it … and it’s switched off before Kane hits the ball
LimitIsUp · 08/07/2021 22:47

@Goldenbear

I thought booing was part of the game. I was taken to a London club in the 90s formby Dad's divorce weekend access activity l, I definitely recall booing of the opposition.
It is!
SlipperyDippery · 08/07/2021 22:47

why are some people getting so upset when people call out unacceptable behaviour

If you read the thread, everyone agrees the laser cunt needs to be banned and booing national anthems is awful, but are objecting to:

a) the suggestion England fans should be banned from the final

b) the sheer ignorance of those that think having twatty fans is unique to England

ConstantConstance · 08/07/2021 22:47

I know, the racism that the England team have been subjected to by rival fans is shocking

Lol i thought the abuse was coming from their own fans when they take the knee, complain about racism or campaign for better food for kids?

The english team and G.Southgate are a whole lot better than some segments of the public/press/politicians and the media.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 08/07/2021 22:48

@remy3

My husband was once kicked to the ground by “football fans” from a certain Eastern European country. He doesn’t even follow football and was just walking down the street on a city break. What had he done? Nothing. He’s part Indian, that’s all. Yet even he has the sense to know that they don’t represent the whole bloody country. Thugs and idiots like that represent nobody but themselves. Get a life OP.
They may not represent a country or males or anything else but they represent football. It was how you defined them. How is that and “ultra violent” European gangs acceptable? I seriously can’t believe some posters are defending this behaviour in the name of game, calling people “whiney”. If thugs and idiots are doing it the name of football it needs to be stopped. Any other sport and the fans,clubs, players and directors would be issuing statements condemning the behaviour and shutting it down. Not shrugging and saying it’s only a few people.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 08/07/2021 22:48

I fucking hate football.

But I cannot begrudge the fans and the nation their joy.

Almost 50% agree with the OP !

No one on this thread said that booing national anthems or pointing lazers is ok.

Everyone has said it's poor behaviour. But it's not all the fans or the team. So banning all fans or the team wouldn't be right.

And, again, didn't denmark fans boo someone else national anthem? That's the point. There loads of hypocrisy.

And the lazer was on his cheek. Not in his eyes. Its obviously not ok, but it wasn't in his eyes and if you watch he doesn't react at all to being on his cheek.

Cam77 · 08/07/2021 22:49

@toocold54
People can boo a song if they want to. Nations are political entities. I personally think it’s silly, but I do believe in free speech.
I’d much rather UEFA actually started clamping down on racism rather than a bit of pantomime booing of a song.

SlipperyDippery · 08/07/2021 22:50

Sorry I am probably being dense but I don’t understand why you’ve said that in response to my post?

ViciousJackdaw · 08/07/2021 22:50

Oh I couldn't agree more OP. Such barbarians. I suggest we abolish this beastly game altogether. Why not replace it with something more genteel? Perhaps a triathlon-based contest, involving croquet, dressage and a general knowledge quiz. I do think Mr. Sterling would look simply divine in one of those little red jackets.

ilovesooty · 08/07/2021 22:51

@User135644

Plenty of vile stuff on Twitter last night from the Danish fans

I don't think that's fair. Twitter can be vile anyway but the Danes, particularly their team and manager, have been very restrained after being cheated out of the game.

They weren't cheated out of the game. They wouldn't have won it anyway. Their manager made a total tactical mess of the substitutions.
Livelovebehappy · 08/07/2021 22:51

99.9% of the fans behaved well, so yes YABU to suggest they should be banned just for the actions of 1 dickhead holding a laser pen. We have people from the UK who behave like twats whilst abroad, so your theory would mean banning the entire population in the UK from travelling abroad just because of a minority of twats.
