There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

@User135644

Are you saying that Schmeichel would have let it in

No, Schmeichel is very competitive and plays in the PL. Just saying it was a bad miss and then a minute later it's an own goal.

Many of them play on the PL.

So hang on - Schmiechel is so competitive he didn't agree to the undercover agreement to let England score? Or he did and forgot or saved it anyway? Why would he do that?

Bovrilly · 09/07/2021 13:35

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

It's the most hilarious and ludicrous football theory I've ever heard.

I mean why even keep players on the pitch? Why not just let them sit on the bench with a packet of crisps and a Capri Sun while they benevolently let England scores a goal a minute?

Yes, especially as their legs were so tired from flying in from Baku that they had to use all their subs up before extra time.

'Some people really can’t stand people being happy'

I love people to be happy. What I cannot stand is the way some 'fans' behave and the irresponsibility of the government who permits mass gatherings of such magnitude when we have the highest rate of Covid cases in Europe. As Marx never said, 'Football is the opium of the people'; it keeps us 'happy' as disease surges, the economy fails and , as a nation, we come round from our drunken jubilation (or tears) jobless, sick and broken.

Yet, then, of course, it's the World Cup, or the Queen's copperplated jubilee, or some other triviality to keep our spirits up whilst this sorry nation sinks into oblivion.

Of course I'm happy :)

😂 All football players are very competitive. None of them are there just to have a jolly kick around.

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

Cheating. Cheats. Shameful. I’m English. I don’t think England should benefit from this. The England I’m from doesn’t believe in cheating.
@SimonedeBeauvoirscat-England did not cheat. the Referee and VAR agreed it was a penalty. How is that cheating? Do tell!

Apparently Simon Kjaer was there to independently assess the refereeing decisions and make amends for any unfair advantage to Denmark by scoring an own goal. Schmeichel doesn't seem to have been in on it though, because he plays in the PL.

Bryonyshcmyony · 09/07/2021 13:40

@WhatATimeToBeAlive

Christ, you are a twat. This is what I hate about tournaments. People who have never really followed football or been to a game are suddenly fucking experts because they've watched a couple of games on TV. Get your head out of your arse and maybe go to some games, follow your national team around the world and you will see that we are no better or worse than most other nations. Yes the laser was bang out of order, but I also saw one at one of the other games during a penalty shoot-out (not England obvs) and not heard a dicky bird about it afterwards. Booing is standard at games, though I don't personally like national anthems being booed - particularly mine.
Dh is that you??
supersonicginandtonic · 09/07/2021 13:41

Kasper Schmeichel has told the press that the laser was not affecting his vision during the penalty. It had however, bothered him earlier so he had informed the referee.
You get booing in football matches, unfortunately. There will always be the minority if idiots. It happens at most games.

😂 I'm sure if we'd used all our subs too early and ended up with ten men that Kjaer would have taken himself off the pitch too. You know, in the interest of fair play

Cam22 · 09/07/2021 13:42

Agree, OP. Repellent in every sense and in every area. Embarrassing.

supersonicginandtonic · 09/07/2021 13:43

@mrsorms wow! I bet you get invited to a lot of parties. Talk about fun sponge 🙄

😂 I'm waiting for @User135644 to explain why Denmark were fouling so much - presumably the plan was for one of them to get sent off to make it easier for England.

England won fair and square. Some supporters behave badly. That does not equate to cheating and calls for the England team to be banned.

WhereIsChipmunk · 09/07/2021 13:51

OP it's all well and good you coming onto an Internet forum to say what you "think should happen", but you do know that you're no-one of any significance, your opinion means nothing, and you can debate and incense all you like but the game is going ahead with full coverage and fan support?

So what's the point of you coming online like an angry headteacher trying to assert some kind of power you don't have, and never will have?

I'm proud of our boys and our country!

remy3 · 09/07/2021 14:14

What a monumentally stupid thread of the highest order.

Some people just need to let it go.

58% England possession
21 England attempts. Only 6 Denmark attempts
10 England shots on target. Only 3 Denmark shots on target
England carried out 10 fouls against Danish players. Denmark Carried out 21 against English players.

There it is. Now go out and touch some grass or something and zip it.

I think posters on MN mistakenly think all women here hate football and therefore, when they start these ridiculous threads, will go "yes it should be stopped so Nigel can stay in and write me sonnets instead".

But there are a lot of women (and men) on MN who are lifelong football fans who passionately love the game. Personally I do have a bit of internal conflict around the culture of (not just English) football WRT domestic violence stats, general violence and hooliganism and how players seem to be Teflon coated when they commit crimes or have questionable morals.

But above all I love the game. It holds so much more to me than kicking a ball around a pitch. SOB STORY ALERT; I was raised going to Leeds and England matches with my lovely dad - my parents were divorced and I was being abused at home by my stepdad and matches on my weekends with dad were one of the few true pleasurable memories I have of childhood. We bonded deeply over it, it was respite from a shitty and terrifying home life. I then set up - after much fighting with my Deputy Head - to form and captain a girls team at school, encouraged by a very supportive father who told me it was as much for women as it was for men. Dad died before he could see his beloved Leeds back in the PL and before he could see England in the Euro final. Had he been alive we'd probably have gone to Wembley on Sunday, he'd have secured tickets for us years ago as he did for all big matches. Football, with all its imperfections, for me is Dad and it's me and Dad having the time of our lives.

So it massively fucks me off when people minimise it as soon silly working class/man's/Neanderthal sports and refuse to learn about it or see how it does so much good the world over. DD (9) now plays in a grass roots girls' league which is funded down by the FA, and it has done wonders for her confidence and sporting prowess.

So everyone who dismisses it out of some weird inverted snobbery or desperation to be More Middle Class Than You can seriously fuck the fuck off

ilovesooty · 09/07/2021 14:21

I don't think there's much point in engaging with @User135644 who obviously knows nothing about football and is just embarrassing herself.

LizzieW1969 · 09/07/2021 14:30

*’Haha at purposely evened the score’
‘I honestly think it's the funniest defence (ha) of a viewpoint I've ever seen on MN.’

Lol. It would actually be a very good joke, except that this poster is quite clearly not intending to be funny. Grin

SamW98 · 09/07/2021 14:30

I've been out all morning and just caught up. Actually LOL at the thought Denmark felt so guilty about cheating that they just jogged aimlessly round the pitch until they got the chance to deliberately score an own goal and that England should have done the jolly decent thing after the dubious penalty and just fannied about until Denmark scored another goal

Just a small point - if the Danes are just the masters of FairPlay, wouldn't it just have been easier to stand the appropriate distance from the England wall for the free kick in the first bloody place rather than go to these elaborate lengths?

This thread is the gift that keeps giving

I don't have an issue with people loving the game, but I do have an issue with it taking over.

I'm glad your dd is playing and enjoying it, maybe as more women get involved the culture of it will improve. My son played between 6 and 9 years old and I thought it was quite toxic and his club's welfare officer was absolutely bloody useless. He started athletics when he was 12 and I think it's a much kinder and supportive environment, as well as being more inclusive.

Oh god yes, I was angry because the day after the Germany game DD was set to play in a league match 2 hours away, and it was cancelled by the other team because the parents were going out for the match and would be hungover Angry the game wasn't even due to be played until 3pm!! We'd booked hotels which we couldn't get a refund on.

I can't say I agree either with the concept of Monday being a bank holiday. It's this rhetoric that football has to change everyday life that is part of the bad reputation England gets. People will just have to go into work hungover 🤷‍♀️
