There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

I am going to use this thread as a vent as well. I am totally disgusted with the behaviour of a small number of fans (the laser incident, the fireworks, the beating up of fans from other countries, the booing at national anthems and so on). I am also disgusted at the government for packing 80,000 people into Wembley as Covid surges through the country again. I am sick of grave and serious issues being hidden behind this frenzy and, although I have respect for the England team, who have played well and behaved impeccably, I will be glad when we are beaten by Italy on Sunday and the whole bloody thing is put to bed for another four years.

Totally agree. Well said....and when the world cup comes around, i'll be equally grumpy for that month also.

There are people who find the whole spectacule overwhelming and too agressive. Many football supporters just can't do respectful disagreement - as shown by the overall tone of this thread.

Bovrilly · 09/07/2021 11:53

@mrsorms

'I hate to tell you this but the World Cup starts in 16 months.'

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Another point, why are so many of the games in this tournament played at Wembley?

There's no host nation this time, the games are shared out. London has 8 games, St Petersburg has 7, the other 9 cities have 4 each. Belgium had to drop out as a host country because their stadium wasn't going to be ready, and UEFA gave those games to Wembley instead. Then Ireland had to drop out because they couldn't guarantee there would allow fans at the games and their matches were given to London and St Petersburg. So it's partly to do with capacity and partly to do with Covid preparedness.
Bovrilly · 09/07/2021 12:02

The defensiveness over takes any common sense.

I don't think it's defensiveness - nobody is suggesting that bad behaviour is ok, but people are rightly questioning the idea that England should be disciplined more severely than other nations. The OP suggested that no fans should be allowed at the final, which is way beyond previous punishments for the same behaviour, it seems only natural to ask why.

I think some people enjoy their stereotypical view of England fans as yobs compared to lovely civilised Europeans. They don't want to consider Danish fans booing the Welsh anthem and setting off smoke bombs just the other day. Maybe it's to do with class, who knows. But it's doesn't really stand up to any scrutiny as many PP have pointed out.

(CBA to find the name and tag but my hero is the poster who has examples of bad behaviour by fans of every nation "as long as it's not Bosnia" Grin)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/07/2021 12:11
@LaserPointer I don’t know what to say - all people posting seem to know eff all about Our reputation in Europe: Heysel anyone? Where Liverpool fans were found directly responsible for the death of opposition fans leading to a ban of English team competing in Europe for five effging years? FFS!!!
36 years ago, when UK football hooliganism was an organised way of life for some.

Things gave changed. Here and everywhere else in the world.

@User135644 are you going to explain how England cheated please? You've made the claim several times have the decency to back it up with an explanation.

Some people really can’t stand people being happy
Chippingbird23 · 09/07/2021 12:18

YANBU They are known in many countries for being thugs. Italia 90 apparel drunk all one the streets of Italy. God knows what they will do on Sunday if they lose. I would have extra police

SlipperyDippery · 09/07/2021 12:19

@User135644

The Danish press have been actually pretty horrible, mocking England’s Covid death rate - if this was English media mumsnet would be in uproar!

While that was crass and not necessary, you could feel the anger of Denmark and it boiled over. They were cheated the other night.

Right so booing a song because of football rivalry is unacceptable but publically mocking over 100,000 deaths because of football rivalry is justifiable.

And they weren’t fucking cheated

Not too sure of the relevance of 30 years ago but I’ll agree I am worried about Sunday, win or lose, there will be some thugs that will cause trouble.

@WorraLiberty

Wahhhhh! Wahhhh!

FFS when is this bleating about England going to stop? 🙄🙄

I've heard less whinging from hungry, tired toddlers than I have since the start of this football tournament.

Yup

The constant diving of the players, the lasers in the face of the Denmark keeper after a penalty awarded by cheating.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/07/2021 12:36

@LaserPointer

So had England lost 2-1 after Pickford had been dazzled by danish supporters when trying to save the winning penalty then all of you would have accepted that?

The hypocrisy……

But I know you’ll never admit it. Winning - even if by cheating - is all that counts.

He wasn't "dazzled" by the laser during the penalty though! He's openly admitted he didn't even notice it during the penalty.

I'm disgusted by the booing and the laser being shone and hope they find whoever it was. Again it's the minority giving English football fans a bad name. It's embarrassing but the constant slagging off of us on social media is just boring.

There's not a team in the world who don't have a minority of shitty fans but it's always the English who get it in the neck. It's bizarre

User135644 · 09/07/2021 12:38

No, they went too far. Took their anger out on the wrong people (100,000 innocent people).

Bryonyshcmyony · 09/07/2021 12:38

The laser was awful but he technically saved the penalty first time so it clearly didn't bother him.

I really hope the people who did it are found.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/07/2021 12:40

And what about the fact that Denmark's free kick shouldn't have been a free kick? Or the fact that Denmark's wall took a step closer to England's wall just before the free kick so that Pickford couldn't see (an illegal move!). Remove the free kick and the penalty (which I'm remaining neutral on as I've seen photos from both angles) then England still won 1-0!

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 09/07/2021 12:41

The constant diving of the players, the lasers in the face of the Denmark keeper after a penalty awarded by cheating.

Which players dived?

The players did not shine the laser in the goalies face ergo they didn't cheat. And anyway that didn't impede the game, he saved the penalty.

The Sterling penalty was awarded fairly and even backed up by VAR. you try running like a madman, dribbling a football and then having someone push their knee into the back of your own knee on the right, and someone else barging into your side on your left, and see if you can carry on running. He was taken down deliberately. You don't understand the rules of penalty awards if you think that was cheating.

There should have been a penalty awarded for a tackle on Kane, but it wasn't.

And the free kick goal from Denmark should have been disallowed, but wasn't.

What do you think of the FIVE Denmark subs who came on in the last part of the first half and proceeded to grab England players shirts, push them about, trip them up etc? Was that cheating or was he just in traditional Danish spirit of dirty tactics?

Yes that was blatant and very satisfying that we kept our subs until later when it counted.

Difference is England equalised straight away. Denmark let England straight back in it, perhaps as they knew their goal was contentious. It was even an own goal so they've purposely evened the score.

England didn't go down the other end and score an own goal to even out the injustice.

Indeed, it was a massive tactical fuck up from the Denmark manager who suffered as a result when he ended up with only 10 men on the pitch

Their players were exhausted though and they needed fresh legs. He didn't just make the subs for the hell of it. They had to travel thousands of miles to Azerbaijan and back in the previous round and play in the heat there.

If not for that disgraceful penalty decision, they'd have probably hung on for the lottery of penalties (with the better goalkeeper).

Theonlyones · 09/07/2021 12:53

As a long time support, who attend games from being young with DF, I'm very proud of the current English team and the manager. They are doing a wonderful job. The fact is that diving & simulation is part of the game, whether we like it or not.

I agree that a lot of our football supporters are total scumbags. Anyone who thinks this is a small group of people, just travel to an away game and it will open your eyes. We never see that with our supporters for other sports.

Right I'm calling troll now because NO ONE can surely believe that Denmark 'let' England even the score out through guilt 🤣🤣

Why the fuck would they?

Cards in the table - are you taking the piss now? Do you understand the rules of football?

😂😂 Where to start with this?
The idea that Kjaer scored the own goal on purpose! To even the score because they cheated during the free kick, I mean..
So he was acting when he looked pissed off?
And they didn't mean to move the wall during the free kick?
This is the maddest post I've ever read I think. You clearly know absolutely nothing about football.

@User135644 you obviously know the grand sum of fuck all about football if you think 5 subs are brought on because the other players are tired. If you don't already know that's an unusually high amount to bring on.

These are international football players. They are used to running non stop for way more than 45 minutes. If they were so shit that they were tired from a one half and a plane flight they wouldn't be in the national team.

They were so obviously brought on to take down the big England players. Re watch it and see for yourself. If that's not cheating I don't know what is
