I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

Laser pointers can literally burn your retina - what the fans did (and there would absolutely been more than one involved as you can shine a laser like that, with such accuracy, without others knowing you are doing so) was a physical attack on a player.

Playing behind closed doors is a punishment that has been used before. I think it should apply to Sunday otherwise there will be no deterrent to it happening again.

Someone I know works in lasers and came up with a few thoughts as to how you could work out where it was coming from. Has anyone any thoughts on who or how to contact someone, so she doesn’t sound like a total nutter?

Yes it has been used as a punishment for racism and crowd trouble but not at very short notice for a match where millions of pounds worth of tickets have been sold and the money banked for two years.

Any punishment will be going forward and in proportion. No one can defend the laser being shone but that's one idiot. Compared to the racist abuse that other teams have been punished for which is a bigger issue in society and needs to be taken seriously

I haven’t suggested anywhere that they should be banned for booing. Unpleasant yes but certainly not limited to England fans.

“Shining a laser” minimises entirely the damage that could have been done to the goalkeeper’s eyes. As I said, it is a physical attack (but by cowards in the crowd).

Maybe try Dublin after an International or go to the night club where private school rugby gang kicked someone to death in D4, or maybe google actual cheating by using fake blood for blood subs, or eye gorging, or trying to actually kill O'Driscoll with a spear tackle in New Zealand. And having watch football all over Europe I can tell you there are far worse fans than English. Roma fans nearly killed an Irish Liverpool fan a couple of years ago, I was in Sofia for a Derby and it was more than dangerous, racist and scarey. Would you even dare go to Istanbul? Belgrade? In Cluj they Celtic fans ran amok when I was there, German fans burning English flags, Homphobic chanting in Hungary, the list is never ending. Cardiff fans trashing Leeds when I lived there. I can give you an example of appalling behaviour by fans from every single Country in this competition at some stage in their history. And France did actual cheat to knock Ireland out of the world cup with a goal scored by a deliberate hand ball. So if we band teams for small number of fans behaviour then the world cup would be Bosnia v Ivory Coast every year and the Euros Bosnia v err... We would just have to give it to Bosnia.

Which I wouldn't have a problem with because they do have nice fans. Just not many of them.
