There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

I thought it was going to be about covid precautions....

Bovrilly · 08/07/2021 22:51

@Goldenbear

Sorry, was in watching the same game as some of you last night. There appeared quite a few 'accidental' trips, barges and kicks that stopped the English players every time they seemed to gain some momentum! Equally, England played the better game.
Ooh that Vestergaard especially Angry

@ViciousJackdaw

Oh I couldn't agree more OP. Such barbarians. I suggest we abolish this beastly game altogether. Why not replace it with something more genteel? Perhaps a triathlon-based contest, involving croquet, dressage and a general knowledge quiz. I do think Mr. Sterling would look simply divine in one of those little red jackets.
100 % this … instead I of half-time, we could have a tea party
User135644 · 08/07/2021 22:53

I’d much rather UEFA actually started clamping down on racism rather than a bit of pantomime booing of a song.

But if football is the game of the working classes in this country, why do they have to be so damn disrespectful? And outright racism is no longer tolerated in English football, so the fans resort to booing taking the knee to make their point instead.

Booing other nation's anthems is neanderthal behaviour. Lasers in the eyes is outright cheating and bloody dangerous.

Where were these fans dragged up?

Teddy1970 · 08/07/2021 22:54

@ConstantConstance

I know, the racism that the England team have been subjected to by rival fans is shocking

Lol i thought the abuse was coming from their own fans when they take the knee, complain about racism or campaign for better food for kids?

The english team and G.Southgate are a whole lot better than some segments of the public/press/politicians and the media.

Go and look at England v Bulgaria, the match had to be stopped half way through because of the abuse the England team got from Bulgarian fans, it was horrendus, Nazi salutes and monkey chanting, fucking vile.

Thats sound positivity spiffing. And rather than penalties, the result can be decided by a Lindy Hop Dance Off
Bovrilly · 08/07/2021 22:54

Like Argentina in 1986 it's always going to be a tainted victory. Sad thing is, England didn't need to cheat to win.

How did they cheat?

UrbanRambler · 08/07/2021 22:55

@forinborin Thanks for the info. So, perhaps the person works in the construction industry and took the laser pen along, knowing that it had the range/power to reach the goal? (Luckily our players also have the same ability to target the goal.)

Someone must know who the person is, or must have noticed the green laser beam coming from people nearby... I hope they speak up.

HarrietPierce · 08/07/2021 22:56

"From what I saw the green laser light randomly moved around the chest of the goalkeeper, it barely went near his eyes, which is very fortunate"
Skip the ad and see 0.08 for how close the laser went to Schmeichel's eye.

I'm so sick of these threads. No-one has the guts to say football is for common people, I'm not common so I hate football and its supporters. Let's call the undercurrent of snobbery out for what it really is.

I'm sure the police will be scouring CCTV to find the person with the laser, and they will be banned from watching football and most likely prosecuted. As they should be.

And yet when public school rugger buggers drink pints of each others piss and stick celery up their arse, its a jolly wheeze and just a bit of harmless fun

Who are they harming? Rugby fans know how to behave at matches.

Cam77 · 08/07/2021 22:57

Again, I don’t personally agree with booing a national anthem (in 99% of instances) but I can’t see why on earth it “ought to be banned”. Nations are political constructs and sometimes they act appallingly against their neighbours - or just in general. Sometimes a good bit of pantomime booing is perhaps a good response. Let’s stop banning everything.

Bovrilly · 08/07/2021 23:00

Except if you watch the actual footage the keeper wasn't actually dazzled or blinded in the slightest!

He didn’t have much choice he was trying to keep his eye on the ball. He did well to try and ignore it though I must say!

I'm guessing you don't know much about football if you think Kasper Schmeichel, facing a penalty at 1-1 in the Euros semi-final extra time, wouldn't complain about someone shining a laser at him and would just try and ignore it. He didn't know it was happening and saved the penalty.

ViciousJackdaw · 08/07/2021 23:00

Google 'Maradona hand of god' and all will be revealed.

I do like the idea of a Lindy Hop challenge, of course one player would need to assume the female role! Kalvin Phillips would be particularly adorable in a circle skirt.

ilovesooty · 08/07/2021 23:00

@ExtraOnions

There was contact on Sterling, in the box … it may have been light contact, but it was contact - the on pitch referee, and the VAR referee agreed it was a penalty.

Amazing how many armchair, I only watch football when it’s on terrestrial TV, fans suddenly know better than professional referees

Agreed, and of course a referee's decision to award a penalty is only overruled by VAR if there's a clear and obvious error.

It's not that it should be 'banned' but these fans need to learn some manners. Problem is, a lot of these fans have been brainwashed by GB News.
Cam77 · 08/07/2021 23:00

FFS It was hardly a blatant dive anyway. Under UEFA’s own interpretation of the rules the past 3 decades, that slight contact at speed is given as a penalty more often than not. Massive furore over not very much.

Time2b33 · 08/07/2021 23:01

Oh piss off and leave us happy England fans to it!

toocold54 · 08/07/2021 23:01

he didn't ignore it, he didn't even notice it!

@wanttomarryamillionaire next time your child has a play on stage shine a laser pen at them and see if it distracts them in any way.

Exactly. Rugby fans don't do anything so childish as boo a national anthem do they? Said no one who watches rugby...

Wtf? Hasn't GB news being going about a month?

How are they to blame for fans misbehaving if tbe English fans have always had a reputation for being 'yobbish' or has this only started in the last month?

TheRosesOfSuccess · 08/07/2021 23:06

And yet when public school rugger buggers drink pints of each others piss and stick celery up their arse, its a jolly wheeze and just a bit of harmless fun

Isn't that the truth. The only people my parents ever had to ban from their village pub was a veterans rugby team. They were a bunch of absolute pissed up thugs. And as for what went on at some of the rugby club player only nights, I think the wives and partners really had no idea.

We mustn't forget the shameful record of rugby and eye gouging. They had to introduce a specific offence in an effort to stop it. If using a laser pen should result in a ban of all England supporters, perhaps every rugby team that had a player who gouged an eye should be banned?

toocold54 · 08/07/2021 23:07

I’d much rather UEFA actually started clamping down on racism rather than a bit of pantomime booing of a song.

Booing during the game is one thing but booing during a national anthem is completely disrespectful and it’s things like that which is deemed acceptable and ‘fun’ that leads the idiots to believe the racism is acceptable and part of the banter.

I'm talking about this tournament, not the 80's.

Add into the fact that the majority of footballers earning the big wages have come from council estates and it hasn't required a RG degree wrangles them, it's the same class snobbery when it comes to politics despite both JC being a life long Arsenal supporter etc.

It's the typical ABE types who complain about flag shaggery when Keir mentions something nationalist whilst having a FBPE twitter account with loads of flags unironically.
