Bun fight for Monday off work

Upamountain43 · 08/07/2021 08:14

I wonder how many people are grovelling at their boss right now to get Monday off work. Just in case of the need for hangover recovery time.

Calling in a sickie is not going to work on Monday - unless your boss beats you to it and calls in first of course.

Do you think Primary Teachers will expect any sense out of the kids on Monday?
We don’t!! Art and sports day practise for me on Monday!!
cardibach · 09/07/2021 18:35

Oddly enough, as an intelligent citizen of the UK, I tend to support all the home nations in any international competition, not just my own nationalistic prejudice @JudgeJ I don’t get this, or the connection with intelligence. People support their own national team surely? Would you expect Man City fans to support Man U in a tournament they had been knocked out of?
That said football is achingly dull and I couldn’t give 2 fucks about it whoever is playing. Not even one fuck. Half a fuck even.

ScreamingMeMe · 09/07/2021 18:42

@BarbaraofSeville

I'm always surprised that so many people expect to be so wiped out by a one off slightly later than normal bedtime and perhaps a few drinks.

Have an afternoon nap if you're so worried about being tired the next day.

I agree, I think it's absolutely crackers.
TheJade · 09/07/2021 18:45

My kids have to isolate as their bubble burst. Super delighted as it means we all have
Monday off 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

I was thinking the same. Monday will be a write off for teachers as a lot of kids in the class will be shattered!

We are in Leicestershire and we broke up today...bonus! Although my DH will be in the pub alone on Sunday as I will be enjoying a big glass of wine in our glamping tent after a hell of an academic year trying to teach online and teach my child at home at the same time. Chin, chin Wine
Roughasabadgersbum · 09/07/2021 19:31

Our primary is an hour late on Monday

purplebunny2012 · 09/07/2021 19:53

@BoxHedge

I think if the child is old enough to remember it, they should be encouraged to watch.

We always hear about the 1966 win even now, imagine if you’d been alive but hadn’t been part of the excitement at the time.

I didn’t bother to watch Diana’s funeral (as a teen), and I wish my parents had told me I should. There was so much discussion about it for months afterwards, and even now if Candle in the wind is played ‘oh, remember the funeral’ etc.

Sorry, but why encourage a child who has no interest in the sport? My 9YO has stated he finds it boring, so do I and my DH. So we won't be watching. I've said he can if he changes his mind, but I'm not going to encourage it when I don't like it and it's not something he's in to
TSSDNCOP · 09/07/2021 20:11

It's going to be almost the only day ever to be OK to go to work with a hangover Grin

One school posted that children would not be counted late so long as they arrived by 10:30...to let them rest. They'd rather have them late than be there on time, sleepy and grumpy.
Mcl21 · 09/07/2021 20:24

You obviously don't work for the NHS, fire service, police, crisis team - they won't have the luxury of not arriving for work etc with lives to save! Just because of a bloody football match

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/07/2021 20:29

I'm going to work as normal and DS will be at school at normal time. I don't see the need for a day off, I'm not planning on getting wasted.

Blackberrycream · 09/07/2021 20:31

@purplebunny2012
As parents most of us generally encourage an interest in current events, especially when those events may be talked about for years to come.
Whether it’s to your personal taste or not, this is significant. My children will be watching. It is quite narrowing to assume only interests already established are worthy. I wouldn’t get far teaching children with that attitude.
@BoxHedge
I absolutely agree. Mine have been dragged to the tv for anything I think they will hear about in years to come.

I’ve just read a post from a school saying exactly this.
I honestly don’t know how they are doing it what with attendance figures and compulsory hours in school. What absence code are they using?

But football is bloody boring! I refuse to encourage him to watch it, it's his choice. The school is already telling them all about it

TheSunShinesBrighter · 09/07/2021 20:36

Here... The school is in Hartlepool - (absolutely nowhere near me) news travels fast as this was in my FB newsfeed.

They aren't using any codes. Registration won't close until 10.30am (at our school)
Blackberrycream · 09/07/2021 20:37

It’s really not boring. Like most things, the more you understand, the more you get out of it.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2021 20:40

@Yellowcrockpot

It never occurred to me j should keep DC (7) up for the match? His dad loves football but when i asked DC if he wanted to watch a game a few weeks ago, he couldn't have been less interested? Am I missing something here? Should I be keeping DC up for the football?!
Our school messaged to say of they stay up late to watch it they can come on late Monday so please let them watch it. Ds isn't interested. I feel like I'm failing at parenting!!
SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2021 20:46

I think those of you putting your children into bed need to have a long think about this - this could be their one and only time to see this and they may not appreciate missing it and having no memories to share for the rest of their lives for absolutely no good reason. If they stay up, get fed up and go to bed, so what - at least give them the chance to experience this major national event. I've got to keep DS up an hour later than normal before it even starts as he goes up to bed at 7. DT2 has ended up falling asleep downstairs ATM as he won't settle in cot so having an overtired and hyper brother bouncing around won't help. Esp for him to spend the whole time moaning it's boring and can he watch Sonic.

I might Grin.

Just kidding, my colleague has booked Monday off and I hope she has a really good night. Her family are big football fans.

I'll be watching it but will have to go in at normal time.

upsideoxide · 09/07/2021 20:58

I manage quite a large number of people and have been personally inconvenienced by people calling in sick (4am text last Sunday) turning up for work 3 hours late, letting me down. Faux short term sick bugs. People need to control themselves a bit. Enjoy it but don't get soo drunk you can't get out of bed the next day

Give it a rest! I find it boring, please stop trying to talk me around
HeavenHotel · 09/07/2021 21:00

I saw England win the World Cup in 1966 I was 4 weeks old 🙄.

My dad also got us up to watch the moon landing in 1969. I was 3 my brother was 3 months old!

Blackberrycream · 09/07/2021 21:08

That’s fantastic @HeavenHotel
It’s a story!
