Bun fight for Monday off work

Upamountain43 · 08/07/2021 08:14

I wonder how many people are grovelling at their boss right now to get Monday off work. Just in case of the need for hangover recovery time.

Calling in a sickie is not going to work on Monday - unless your boss beats you to it and calls in first of course.

Do you think Primary Teachers will expect any sense out of the kids on Monday?

Ligglepiggle · 08/07/2021 08:24

I’ve just started a new job and we’re doing training by zoom, we’ve just had an email to say we’re starting at lunchtime on Monday and making up the time over the rest of the week. I’m not bothered either way as il be up for the school run etc but does seem slightly unfair to anyone who’s not bothered about the football or having a late one.

I was thinking the same. Monday will be a write off for teachers as a lot of kids in the class will be shattered!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 08/07/2021 08:50

DH’s CEO told them that if England won last night the whole company can have Monday off! Excellent!

Iamtheweedonkey · 08/07/2021 08:53

I work in a primary school, expecting lots of tired children and adults on Monday, myself included!

MordredsOrrery · 08/07/2021 08:56

Our primary school has let the children arrive an hour late this morning - I suspect the thinking was it's better than dealing with a load of grumpy, tired kids! With another 8pm kick-off I'm expecting the same on Monday.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/07/2021 08:57

I'm always surprised that so many people expect to be so wiped out by a one off slightly later than normal bedtime and perhaps a few drinks.

Have an afternoon nap if you're so worried about being tired the next day.

TiredButDancing · 08/07/2021 09:16

I don't really understand why the game is so late on Sunday. Is it TV rights? But even so, one assumes that the people most invested are in EUROPE so a slightly earlier kick off would work? DS dragged himself off to school this morning and I suspect the teachers are already dealing with tired children from last night. But even without children wanting to watch, it just makes no sense to me.

Marmite27 · 08/07/2021 09:18

We have a swimming session booked at 1pm, hopefully that will wipe the kids out enough for an afternoon nap to balance the late night!

Hoppinggreen · 08/07/2021 09:18

Bloody ridiculous
I genuinely hope England win but why that should automatically lead to a hangover is beyond me.
One of the reasons I hate football, it’s just an excuse for anti social behaviour in some quarters

DancesWithTortoises · 08/07/2021 09:20

Lots of people won't be watching and don't care.

Other countries don't go to bed as early as the UK. A football match starting at 9 pm in Italy wouldn't raise any eyebrows at all.
Yellowcrockpot · 08/07/2021 09:21

It never occurred to me j should keep DC (7) up for the match?
His dad loves football but when i asked DC if he wanted to watch a game a few weeks ago, he couldn't have been less interested?

Am I missing something here? Should I be keeping DC up for the football?!

BeyondMyWits · 08/07/2021 09:21

I'll be watching, I don't drink. Get fed up of the assumption that football fans in England are drunks.

thebabessavedme · 08/07/2021 09:22

I dont like football but I really cant begrudge a once in 55 years hangover.

Personal choice. Ds 8 went to bed normal times. Ds 10 and 12 chose to stay up and watch the match
Mum45678 · 08/07/2021 09:26

I feel like I was the only one to put my kids to bed early last night! They are both absolutely shattered coming up to the end of term and weren't that interested the last time they were able to watch a 5pm game.
I'm only tired because my DP came in at 2am absolutely steaming drunk and woke me up.

SlothMama · 08/07/2021 09:32

My Danish manager has said we can have Monday off if we win!

Yellowcrockpot · 08/07/2021 09:34

I was thinking of putting DC to bed at normal time, now I'm questioning if he will be missing out on a potentially historic event that in years to come he won't have any memories of... because "mum put me to bed on time" Grin

At 7 my DS couldn't have cared less and wouldn't have wanted to watch. He would've been a whiny, miserable mess by 10pm too. Now he's 9, he wants to watch and would be disappointed to miss it but if he wasn't bothered then he'd be in bed. Me & his dad aren't even bothered by football but his friends all love it at school so he wants to join in with the talk.

Dd (6) will be going to bed as normal!

Thesearmsofmine · 08/07/2021 09:41

DH has to be up for work at 4.15 on Monday! He obviously won’t be having a drink, I do t drink anyway.
My dc(5, 8 & 10) stayed up until 11 last night and are fine this morning(got up at 8). They can’t wait until Sunday now.

moynomore · 08/07/2021 09:41

Nobody has to keep their kids up. It's so not a big deal if you do or don't. Just do what you want. Confused

LadyR77 · 08/07/2021 09:48

I let DS (8) watch the first half last night as he was really keen to see at least some of the match (he got England in his class sweepstake!), and I've told him he can stay up to watch the whole thing on Sunday - a one-off late night won't do much harm. I'm not a football fan at all, but even I can appreciate that this is a big deal.

MrKlaw · 08/07/2021 09:52

Half our company is UK based, half is Italy based. CEO should just give everyone the day off! (he isn't)
