I just don’t get all the fuss about stupid football

So I’m sitting in bed about go to sleep and all I can hear outside is cheering, horns beeping people shouting etc because England are through to the final. It means nothing to me. Just a massive money spinning industry.

Am I honestly the only person who doesn’t give a flying fig about it all? I actually feel sorry for the sheeple who are using it to bring excitement to their otherwise quite boring lives.

Sure I will be totally flamed for this, but I honestly wish it would just all go away.

Also, as a side note, it’s the Euros but wonder how many England supporters actually voted for Brexit 🤔 Or is that actually why people are so invested in it?

@TheGumption

Mumsnet is so predictable after football. The "I'm just so above the football, I don't care about it and I don't want anyone else to care either" posts. YAWN.
To be fair, it's like that about everything.
Bumpsadaisie · 08/07/2021 08:00

Plenty of people are not interested in football - but they understand that others might be and are alright with that.

First final in 55 years. Great young team who are playing really well and inspiring leader in Gareth Southgate. Of course people are thrilled!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 08/07/2021 08:02

@U2HasTheEdge

I am not a football fan, but I watched the game last night (the first one I have watched).

I am tired this morning because I had crowds of people walking past singing and then I had my own two drunk ( young adult) children crashing back home with their friend trying to quieten them down.

Instead of being annoyed I actually enjoyed hearing happy people. It has been so long since I have heard groups of people having fun. I didn't even mind my children disturbing me because it was the first time in a long time that they have gone out and had fun and had something to celebrate.

I really really hope England win!

@U2HasTheEdge

what a sweet post.
I think I love you! ❤

oblada · 08/07/2021 08:06

I couldn't care less about football and I really don't like the flag waving thuggery that goes with it.and I do feel a bit sad for people who are so into it their happiness seems to depend on the result.however if people are behaving then no issue, it's nice to see some enjoyment in things.
I am a bit worried about my kids going to school next week after everyone has mingled over the weekend over this. We want to go on holiday in 2 weeks and don't want it spoilt with one of us getting sick beforehand.

Upamountain43 · 08/07/2021 08:06

Well its a good job your opinion doesn't mean a flying fig to anyone else.

What is it that brings excitement into your boring life - just so we can belittle you about your preferences?

vivainsomnia · 08/07/2021 08:18

Oh another 'i don't get this, it's not my thing, I don't understanding, so those who do enjoy it are worth whatever judgement because everything should be judge by my standards' post.

There seem to be more and more of these. Intolerance is more than ever part or our society. We've gone such a long way to take into consideration protected characteristics, but it really feels like judgement and hatred has just been shifted to non protected ones.

So sad Confused

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/07/2021 08:22

FFS I bet you’re a right laugh! Hmm You do realise it’s impossible to leave the continent of Europe don’t you? Wow.

ConstanceGracy · 08/07/2021 08:22

What on Earth are you blabbering about, OP?
Lighten up ffs

The Euros has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit?
Do you realise that England, along with the rest of Britain still remains within Europe?
What an idiotic thing to say, and I'm neither English nor British.

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/07/2021 08:23

Also, ‘sheeple’. Hmm

vivainsomnia · 08/07/2021 08:24

Football is a distraction because most people’s lives are actually quite miserable....a temporary distraction from the massive rent, bills, mortgage etc that people have to pay. It’s like a drug.Temporary high
I'm sure that couldn't possibly apply to the large number of posters who come on MN daily....

BumbleFlump · 08/07/2021 08:31

I have the mother of all AF and was feeling miserable last night so was probably a bit over the top about it. To be fair though, I grew up by what are now two very big football clubs and had to endure endless anti-social behaviour as a child....men pissing in front gardens, groups of them chasing each other with metal bars. Once we went out to buy milk once and were sent home by the police. So I suppose my formative experiences of it all weren’t great and I see it in a different light.

I equate it with violence and not being safe.

Sheeple = people who behave like sheep. I don’t see what’s wrong with that if it conveys what I mean.

"Sheeple"

Argument lost.

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 08/07/2021 08:49

Oh shut the fuck up

Whoarethewho · 08/07/2021 08:52

It's coming home!

Newgirls · 08/07/2021 08:53

I don’t like the twattish loud behaviour that some fans do. I agree in that it seems to be an excuse for some men to be completed dicks.

The actual England team seem great. Let’s hope they are a good influence.

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 08/07/2021 08:53

@trappedsincesundaymorn

Ynbu

I have decided that if "Engerlaaand" win on Saturday then, as a payback for the noise that will keep be awake, when I have to get up at 4AM on Sunday to go to work, I am going to put very loud rave music on and go out into the garden at 10pm on Monday night. Or is it only football fans that are allowed to behave like selfish twats?

We're playing on Sunday though Hmm
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/07/2021 08:53

Well I’m no football fan, but this is exciting!!!

All my relatives were screaming last night, but they all voted remain….🤔

The country needs something good to happen. So don’t be a misery.

🦁🦁🦁

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 08/07/2021 08:54

I'm not particularly interested either, but each to his own and I'm glad it makes people happy.
I'm not sure why people don't get this excited about other sports though 🤔

Well I don't know about you but I've had a fairly dull life for the last few months.
Your comment was very snobby, where do you live because by the time you were posting all was quiet here in suburbia.

ChainJane · 08/07/2021 08:59

Yeah round my way there were loads of blokes growing woolly coats and eating their front lawn too.

Thunderingwankgoblet · 08/07/2021 09:00

Thank you for letting me know it’s the Euros, I had no idea! I was wondering what was going on. Bread and circuses, yep. But people care, because they need to care about something x

@Newgirls

well we wouldn't want them to be incompleted dicks. that'd hurt

and, just because you don't seem to have gotten the memo, a lot of football fans are women. 🤷‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽️❤

Newgirls · 08/07/2021 09:03

The female fans I know don’t act like twats 🤷‍♀️

Alann01 · 08/07/2021 09:04

Is it hard work being so miserable?
