I just don’t get all the fuss about stupid football

So I’m sitting in bed about go to sleep and all I can hear outside is cheering, horns beeping people shouting etc because England are through to the final. It means nothing to me. Just a massive money spinning industry.

Am I honestly the only person who doesn’t give a flying fig about it all? I actually feel sorry for the sheeple who are using it to bring excitement to their otherwise quite boring lives.

Sure I will be totally flamed for this, but I honestly wish it would just all go away.

Also, as a side note, it’s the Euros but wonder how many England supporters actually voted for Brexit 🤔 Or is that actually why people are so invested in it?

I loved it tonight and I'm not a football follower particularly, it was blimmin wonderful!

MarsandPluto · 08/07/2021 02:12

Perhaps, but that's why I agree with op Smile

Furries · 08/07/2021 02:13

@CorianderBee - not surprised he’s buzzing, must have been such a great atmosphere there (am going to ignore the fans that often let the country down).

Hope you’re prepared for this to be a story that gets repeated often through your family life. Please pop back here, with your username, in around 20 years time to confirm it’s still mentioned at any given opportunity 🤣

Has he got tickets for the final?

Spidey66 · 08/07/2021 02:15

@Viviennemary

I'm not a football fan either. But its a lot less boringly mind numbing that the dreaded Wimbledon we are subjected to every year for a whole month.
Same here.

And as for cricket....yawn.

I couldnt bring myself to watch a full footie match but do tend to get caught up in the excitement of the Euros and World Cup and know how England are doing and the rest of the group (Ireland too if they qualify as my parents were Irish). I may even watch the final this weekend as England are in it!

After the shitty 18 months we've just had its nice for the country to have some fun for a change!

Pinkandwrinkly · 08/07/2021 02:17

You've got it all again next Summer with female footie.
We're in that too. ⚽❤️

lolacola77 · 08/07/2021 02:18

What a misery guts you are! There's nothing like football to bring the cats bum mouths out!

Also the World Cup in Qatar is being held in December next year so isn't far off either :)

🤣

very true!
the professionally offended brigade have the dates in their calendars to exploit maximum sulking potential.
it's pathetic

CorianderBee · 08/07/2021 02:32

@Furries sadly no tickets for the final! He had three different games booked but 2/3 got cancelled due to Covid cutting down spectator numbers so he was thrilled this was allowed (and that we got through). Am prepared for it to be a family story well beyond having kids and them growing up 😂

Although tbf he's just got home and he's battered and tells me he can barely remember the second half (lightweight, not really a drinker). So it might be a vague story!

GiantHaystacks2021 · 08/07/2021 02:44

It gives people hope.
People enjoy it.
'Tis been a hard 18 months for most people. Except the rich probably....

OneKeyAtATime · 08/07/2021 03:25

I really want to enjoy football matches. The chanting, aching for your team, cheering, celebrating when they win. It all sounds fun. Sadly I just can't get into it. I forced myself to watch yesterday s match but gave up past the 80 minute mark. To me it looks like nothing is going on and my mind just starts wandering. I guess we can't all like the same thing and it's not necessarily a bad thing!

BadLad · 08/07/2021 03:32

Just don't watch if you don't want to but quit the whinging.

I just don’t get all the fuss about stupid football

Our team is playing it's heart out. You are very very very unreasonable.
This was pure joy!

You do we are still in Europe. We still belong to the continent!

@BumbleFlump

Football is a distraction because most people’s lives are actually quite miserable....a temporary distraction from the massive rent, bills, mortgage etc that people have to pay. It’s like a drug. Temporary high. That’s why I used the term “sheeple” because people don’t get the wider function of football in society. The big picture.
What absolute bollocks. ‘The wider function of football in society’ aka, recreational fun, basically the same ‘wider function’ as any other recreational activity. But I bet you don’t sit sneering about people who go to the theatre, for example. This reeks of classism.
FangsForTheMemory · 08/07/2021 05:36

I’m not interested in football either but you are being unreasonable to use the word ‘sheeple’ about anyone who’s got different interests to you. Why do you think that’s appropriate? I bet you wouldn’t like being called a cow.

Youarestillintherunning · 08/07/2021 05:40

I don't give a shir about it either. I was hoping England won though, as domestic violence went up 38% when England have lost World cups in previous years.

Ratalie · 08/07/2021 06:00

It also goes up 26% when they win, and more wins means more games.

ItsAllBlahBlahBlah · 08/07/2021 06:16

Bloody hell. So many grumps about this. How dull.

@badlad love that Grin

miltonj · 08/07/2021 06:27

Wow. How bizarre that you can't see that different people like different things. Lot of people who like knitting or tiddlywinks also voted for brexit, weird link to make.

PartridgeFeather · 08/07/2021 06:28

@sweeneytoddsrazor

Wondering how many Italians are complaining 🤔🤔
Not yet they aren't, perhaps when I hang the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 flag off the balcony they will be. And when they lose on Sunday they definitely will be.

Yours might be. Plenty of people have happy, fulfilling lives. Funnily enough you can enjoy sport with being a 'sheeple'.
Namechanger0800 · 08/07/2021 06:34

I'm not a football fan - not keen on the industry and how the clubs operates etc - but I did watch the match last night and am pleased England won. It's quite a historic moment so I watch it- like I watch the royal
Weddings or other significant sporting events where our country is achieving something
