How many women would choose the men’s facilities or the mixed facilities if there was a choice ?

Given there seems to be some support for the notion that we can disregard safety issues , i would be interested to know how many of us would choose the option of men’s or mixed sex facilities if there are single sex available, and if so why?
YANBU = this is a really good idea,
YABU = I won’t support such a potentially dangerous idea

I honestly believe that, given the choice between single sex and mixed sex facilities, women will hardly ever choose mixed sex and I would be astonished if they chose it twice.

igelkott2021 · 06/07/2021 11:32

I will choose whichever has the shortest queue.

Thecatonthemat · 06/07/2021 11:33

I would be interested in hearing from women why they feel ok bout doing so.

Shortest queue for me too.

tedsletterofthelaw · 06/07/2021 11:34

Men's usually has a shorter queue so yes I would.

Backhills · 06/07/2021 11:36

I quite often nip in the gents when there's a long queue for the ladies. I am also aware that it's not OK if a man did the same in reverse.

irregularegular · 06/07/2021 11:36

I would also choose whichever looked like it was going to be quickest! Provided either the men's loos did not have urinals or they were positioned in a discreet way.

Clickbait · 06/07/2021 11:36

It depends if it's an individual room (with a door that closes) or a larger facility with cubicles.

AZFell · 06/07/2021 11:37

I will never choose the male or mixed sex facilities if there are female ones available.

The mixed sex changing room at one of my local leisure centres is not safe. Before the lockdowns there were reports of perverts trying to film women and girls over/under the cubicles every few weeks. Everyone knows it's not safe.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 06/07/2021 11:37

I actually don’t mind on terms of toilets/ changing rooms etc. most of the swimming pools in my area have unisex changing, it’s not an issue. Prisons/refuges however are a different story.

Vetyveriohohoh · 06/07/2021 11:38

As long as it’s actual cubicles I would choose whichever is quickest

Scottishskifun · 06/07/2021 11:38

I would go for shortest queue!
If no queue would choose single sex but if a huge queue then I would have no issue popping into mixed sex or even the gents and have done in the past.
Generally it's in places which are busy and plenty of folk about so I don't feel unsafe.

Since you're just 'interested to know', why have you worded the poll like this?

Seems weird to deliberately create a bias while looking for an unbiased opinion.

Mixed sex facilities don't bother me at all so I would and have, used them before, and would again.

Holly60 · 06/07/2021 11:39

Possibly not men’s (because if it says men’s then I tend to think it’s been designated as a single sex space) but certainly unisex toilets if the queue is shorter. Unisex toilets are not a new thing - I’ve been using them all my life and I’m in my sixties. They are very common in France, particularly when camping, where the shower facilities are unisex too. I’ve literally never encountered any problems or felt uncomfortable. People going to use the toilet are usually very focussed on the task in hand Grin

sailmeaway · 06/07/2021 11:39

I have, and would use the mens loos if there was a shorter queue for them. I go to a lot of LGBT+ venues though, and many of them have always been sort of unofficially unisex when it comes to the facilities, though. Some have had proper unisex facilities for years though, my first experience of unisex loos was back in the 90s in a London gay club that had full cubicles and the wash facilities in the middle of them.

MojoMoon · 06/07/2021 11:40

You mean toilets? As opposed to changing rooms?

I've got no real problem with mixed sex toilets assuming each cubicle is fully enclosed - fairly solid floor to ceiling walls with no gaps under or over doors etc. And no open urinals.

We have those at work and it's fine. Some of the larger ones have their own sink (also are disabled friendly) but not all fit a sink in so there are some sinks outside.

But the doors with massive gaps and urinals - then no. I'd worry about weirdo perving on me.

worrybutterfly · 06/07/2021 11:40

For toilets shortest queue. I suffer from IBS and occasionally have no choice but to use the male, mixed sex, or even disabled toilet if there is a long queue at the ladies.

For changing room's that I'm not familiar with I'd go with the ladies. Just incase I got in there and it wasn't cubicle changing.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/07/2021 11:41

I have used men's loos by accident and when pg.
they were usually quite bewildered because they didn't expect that🤣

but I was a non-threat to them so it's just not the same as a man invading a women only space.

MojoMoon · 06/07/2021 11:41

Changing rooms are a bit different - you generally aren't getting naked in a toilet. It's a pretty focused, rapid task.

Thelnebriati · 06/07/2021 11:42

I think you should have worded your choices more clearly and with less bias, but I prefer single sex facilities where I'll be in a state of undress or in any way vulnerable.

Watchingyou2sleezes · 06/07/2021 11:42

Mixed toilets- blokes kissing here there and everywhere...

No chance

aLilNonnyMouse · 06/07/2021 11:43

As a disabled person I've had no choice but to use mixed facilities for over a decade now. I have no real problem with it.

sailmeaway · 06/07/2021 11:43

'I would be interested in hearing from women why they feel ok bout doing so.'

well, why not? Why would you not go to the shortest, fastest choice available. The public loos I've done this in have always been busy, people coming and going, open, other women doing the same.
Given the choice of an empty mens loo and an empty womens loo then I'm going to use the ladies probably.

cinammonbuns · 06/07/2021 11:43

For toilets and changing rooms as there are cubicles, shortest queue as others have said.

I would not go to an open changing room whether it was female only mixed sex. Maybe I’m strange for this but I am not interested in looking at female genitals while changing just as much as I am not interested at looking at male genitalia

Shamoo · 06/07/2021 11:44

Toilets - I use unisex no issue and have used men’s when no queue. No problem.
