How many women would choose the men’s facilities or the mixed facilities if there was a choice ?

Given there seems to be some support for the notion that we can disregard safety issues , i would be interested to know how many of us would choose the option of men’s or mixed sex facilities if there are single sex available, and if so why?
YANBU = this is a really good idea,
YABU = I won’t support such a potentially dangerous idea

With my 7 yr old son, I'd prefer us to both go in the mixed sex facilities together (whether this is toilets or changing).

Studiodoll · 06/07/2021 14:14

I'm a female and would never use a male or mixed sex toilet.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 06/07/2021 14:17

Unisex facilities do increase the danger of sexual assault for women overall though and I feel we should hang on to them.

When I've thought a bit more about it, I don't even like using sling mingle toilets that are mixed sex, like the ones in Costa. There's always piss on the seats & floors and toilets shared with men often have that lovely aroma Envy not envy

@BunnyRuddington

mingle toilets
🤣
what a fab autocarrot!

BunnyRuddington · 06/07/2021 16:27

Sorry about that Zing. My autocorrect conspires against me . The worst one it does is change Spag Bol to Slag Bol, but only randomly so that I don't always check.

All disabled toilets are unisex. Many smaller restaurants and shops have only got one loo. What do you think is going to happen if we do share? Surely if someone has a plan to assault someone they will find somewhere anyway? And what about violence from the same sex (seen quite a bit of that in nightclubs).

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 06/07/2021 16:28

Proper, floor to ceiling cubicles, with washbasins inside, opening onto corridors/public space - unisex is fine.

Open changing rooms, gappy cubicles, or "interim" rooms where I could get cornered - womens only.

Anonymous48 · 06/07/2021 16:30

I really don't understand the question and the poll doesn't make sense.

I have no problem using a unisex toilet. I have also used the men's if there's a queue for the ladies.

TallFriendlyGinger · 06/07/2021 16:36

I'm very confused by the wording of the question and which response to vote for but I am fine using men's loos etc if the queue for the ladies is too long and don't mind mixed bathrooms either. Depends how clean they are!

TallFriendlyGinger · 06/07/2021 16:42

Oh and if I was thinking about using single sex female toilets over unisex it would probably be a privacy concern not a safety concern tbh I've never thought or worried about my safety in public toilets.

Unless I am missing something disable people don't use the toilets in groups of strangers. Hmm

No one is arguing to abolish single toilets. As for the danger of women's toilets. Imagine the woman starting a fight with you was 6'2. Probably slightly more dangerous than Jennie who is trashed on WKDs. That's before you consider there being virtually 0 risk of sexual assault from Jennie.

Surely if someone has a plan to assault someone they will find somewhere anyway?

So women should just make it as easy as possible? So that men cna be validated in the toilets?

@Iamuhtredsonofuhtred

I actually don’t mind on terms of toilets/ changing rooms etc. most of the swimming pools in my area have unisex changing, it’s not an issue. Prisons/refuges however are a different story.
Open plan unisex? Or individual locking cubicles?
AuntieStella · 06/07/2021 17:34

No problem with mixed whatsoever.

Have used men's (shorter queue and start gun time looming)

Ozanj · 06/07/2021 17:37

The Mens loos can be safer at certain places at night as they have an open space. I always use them in certain service / petrol stations etc.

Rabblesthecat · 06/07/2021 17:47

Often used the men’s when the women’s have a long queue

But then I don’t go around seeing perverts and subsets around every corner

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 06/07/2021 17:50

Shortest queue, I have used men’s loos on numerous occasions.

BlowDryRat · 06/07/2021 17:54

I have only ever chosen mixed sex facilities when DS was little and I needed to keep an eye on him while changing.

Honestly? You're lucky then.
ForeverFloating · 06/07/2021 18:01

They should stay single sex, I’ve always felt very uneasy using mixed sex toilets even if the cubicles are fully enclosed, a man walking in behind you in a quiet toilet is unsettling. I’ve never went in a male only toilet no matter how desperate I’ve been.
Gaps around cubicles are not an issue in single sex spaces, also handy if someone takes unwell, passes out drunk or gets locked in. Why should we have to change it all to accommodate gender feels.

Rapskallion · 06/07/2021 18:02

I would only use women’s facilities.

I only use mixed facilities of the type you find in coffee shops - the single toilet. I wouldn’t use a men’s or mixed facility with cubicles.
I wouldn’t feel safe, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable.

Rapskallion · 06/07/2021 18:04

This is a nasty, misogynistic attitude.
Ellmau · 06/07/2021 18:06

I wouldn't use the gents but not because I felt unsafe. It's because they're always left so disgusting.

Rabblesthecat · 06/07/2021 18:17

@Rapskallion

How is it? It’s my experience. I can honestly say I’ve never come across anything that would put me off other than general cleanliness of the men’s

Namenic · 06/07/2021 18:32

If I was with my sons I would go to mixed sex - as they would be close by. Oldest is 7 but big. If there was a long queue for women’s I’d go mixed sex.
