AIBU to ignore the notification?

This morning I woke to find a notification on the NHS app telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid and need to isolate for 8 days. The only place that can have come from is a farm cafe on Thursday, out for lunch with DH, who does not have the app so has not been told to isolate so isn't going to. He's manager of a large pharmacy and they're on skeleton staff already and have been encouraged to delete app by big bosses. I'm a childminder so will be letting down parents if I close. I've had a pcr test this morning and I'm double vaccinated. The app says to isolate even if its negative as I could still develop covid. But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?! But I am usually a stickler for the rules and worry about getting "caught." What do I do?

I think its more because if everyone isolated when they were told to by the app, there would be nobody at work

Thirtyrock39 · 04/07/2021 21:33

Hcp are told to turn it off as we have really strict infection control policies and procedures and have to constantly wear Ppe plus are mainly double vaccinated and twice weekly testing etc- it's not to do with the app not being trusted etc

TheGlassBlowersDaughter · 04/07/2021 21:33

This is interesting. There was a similar query a week ago and everyone told them to isolate. I wonder where all these 'delete the app' Covid-deniers sprang from. It almost reads like an orchestrated campaign. Hmm
OP you need to isolate. And so does your DH. And if his pharmacy chain has told them to delete the app then I hope the Daily Mail picks up on this thread and works out which chain that is. We have friends who are pharmacists so I know which chain it isn't.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 21:36

I wonder where all these 'delete the app' Covid-deniers sprang from

People not wanting the app don't have to be covid deniers. I am not a covid deniar, I don't trust the app🤷🏻 Because it's faulty. It's ridiculous system which doesn't work if people genuinely listen to it

RainbowANDThunder · 04/07/2021 21:36

With everyone telling the OP to ignore
No wonder the virus is still rapidly spreading
Christ!!!!

I wonder how many people have ignored the need to isolate and actually killed someone !

But hay, as long as your ok, and you can still go out, carry on as normal huh!

Nettleskeins · 04/07/2021 21:40

You miss the point that jobs depend on people going out and education depends on people going to school and health depends on people being active. And business depends on people being available to keep appointments. Multiple self isolations for those being pinged is....that what is being suggested?

Ilovemycat13 · 04/07/2021 21:41

@Doifollowrule I haven’t read all the thread so apologies if I miss a beat, but was the farm cafe in Somerset by any chance? Specifically a village with initials SP?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 04/07/2021 21:41

Do find it a bit daft that you can get a notification telling you that you have a day or 2 left of isolation...

I think I would because of the job role but at the same same.. its not binding and you can easily turn it off..its a bit of a pointless really. Work in a nursery and we've been told to turn it off..not that have phones on us or on unless in the staff room anyway but while on premises its to be off.

Think like said a lot of people downloaded it to check in not realising the scanning part can be turned on/off. Think the check in thing is another part going anyway.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 21:41

I am definitely not a Covid denier. Far from it. I just think the App is not fit for purpose and unreliable. I don’t know how it got passed for use TBH. It’s not being promoted anywhere now that I have seen maybe that’s why.
As I have said I would love to know the amount of people that isolated because of the App that actually went on to test positive.

Blueskytoday06 · 04/07/2021 21:46

@dementedpixie

Somewhere in the settings I think. I have the Scottish one so it's slightly different
I can't see that it gives me any details on the English version.
warmfluffytowels · 04/07/2021 21:46
@warmfluffytowels I never said I would give anyone hell; you're confusing me with another poster :)

But since you're asking, my opinion is that anyone whose phone could have the app, and who doesn't have a valid reason not to have it (e.g. working in a hospital), ought to seriously consider why they haven't got it. They also ought to consider what the implications of that might be for a) other people and b) themselves, in terms of restrictions dragging on longer and longer while we finish off the vaccination programme.
Ah, I apologise!

The implications for me if restrictions continue are minimal, to be honest. However continual isolations (for no legitimate reason) have a very negative impact on me and could lead to my business folding.

ADayAlwaysHasToEnd · 04/07/2021 21:48

@Blueskytoday06 I'm pretty sure it's under settings then other data

Doifollowrule · 04/07/2021 21:49

No, it wasn't that one, different county. Having assumed it was another customer, I've just seen on this ones fb page that it's a member of staff has tested positive... which is making me lean slightly more towards isolating, I thought I'd checked in but just looked on the app and I hadn't so its just luck that t&t haven't been in touch.

OP posts:
glitterelf · 04/07/2021 21:51

You should definitely isolate especially with the latest info you've just posted and so should your husband.

PandemicPalava · 04/07/2021 21:52

@TheGlassBlowersDaughter the app has a page of guidance advising when people need to turn it off. It is perfectly ok for lots of workers not to have it on.

It also advises to pause it in certain situations. It's not clear cut and lots of people don't need it on for the majority of their day

Doifollowrule · 04/07/2021 21:56

I don't think people saying "delete the app" are covid deniers, they're just practical people who realise that a phone passing another phone of somebody who tests positive, is unlikely to mean that you get covid ESPECIALLY if you've had both vaccinations which is supposed to give you 85% protection. Theyre also people who realise that isolation has negative effects beyond covid. Also the app is Advisory, not law, t&t is law. www.gov.uk/government/news/first-real-world-uk-data-shows-pfizer-biontech-vaccine-provides-high-levels-of-protection-from-the-first-dose

Yasyasyasyasyasyas · 04/07/2021 21:56

I'm actually disgusted at the suggestion to delete and ignore. Given both your jobs you should isolate. No wonder we are in the mess we are

Doifollowrule · 04/07/2021 21:57

Ok guys, looks like we're isolating! Bah. Ah well, 8 days as long as no positives.

Absolutely this!!

Oh if the app notifications are is just advisory and not law then I'd certainly be ignoring them, and swiftly deleting the app.

00100001 · 04/07/2021 22:00

@Sparklingbrook

What's a 'footballer MP'? OP is a childminder.
MPs apparently don't have to follow the rules.

Nor do footballers.

So, OP just needs to declare she'd a Footballer MP and she's exempt 👍

UnChatNoir · 04/07/2021 22:00

@mam0918

osbertthesyrianhamster - well for a start she would be getting reported and sued.

She willfully endangered people and contrary to what people think even if you delete your app after notification it still tracable and provable.

Good luck with that considering being pinged by the app is purely guidance and not a legal requirement looool.

It's a shame those telling us to follow the rules aren't doing the same though...

Makes you wonder why we should bother 🤷‍♀️

lastcall · 04/07/2021 22:01

@nanbread

Also your DH will have had to provide his details in writing surely not, so he may still get a call soon?
Hilarious. Most places I've seen lately aren't even pretending to take contact details.
MrsDThomas · 04/07/2021 22:02

Ignore it. Ive never downloaded it. Time to crack on with life.

You don't have to though...
