This morning I woke to find a notification on the NHS app telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid and need to isolate for 8 days. The only place that can have come from is a farm cafe on Thursday, out for lunch with DH, who does not have the app so has not been told to isolate so isn't going to. He's manager of a large pharmacy and they're on skeleton staff already and have been encouraged to delete app by big bosses. I'm a childminder so will be letting down parents if I close. I've had a pcr test this morning and I'm double vaccinated. The app says to isolate even if its negative as I could still develop covid. But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?! But I am usually a stickler for the rules and worry about getting "caught." What do I do?

Track and trace only works if its done properly

An app isn't going to cut it. It never was.

No problem with proper T&T but the app has no concept of human behaviour whatsoever.

PandemicPalava · 04/07/2021 23:10

@MyrrAgain I got a ping because my neighbour has Covid and is on her sofa next door to my skinny terrace house. It doesn't recognise walls, or car doors, or floors, or plastic shields. I certainly won't be isolating

Neuts346 · 04/07/2021 23:12

This is why the app is ridiculous, can’t believe people downloaded it in the first place. The first reports of nhs staff and police bring told to turn it off in work should be enough to tell you what to do with this app.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 23:17

@Bythemillpond

Talkwhilstyouwalk

Tbh I didn’t know it was an app so I have taken loads of photos of the QRcode

I didn’t realise you had to down load an app

😂😂😂
SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 23:19

People need to stop calling track and trace though🙈

PandemicPalava · 04/07/2021 23:24

@SchrodingersImmigrant ha ha I know!!!

Sh05 · 04/07/2021 23:28

My son's college told them to turn the location off on the app as kids were being pinged despite being separated by a solid wall. They then ran a very tight ship in regards to being aware of who was in contact with who so notified students themselves if they'd really been in contact with a positive case

nanbread · 04/07/2021 23:32

@Bythemillpond

nanbread

Also your DH will have had to provide his details in writing surely not, so he may still get a call soon

I have never been asked for my details and I don’t have the app as my phone is too old/not updated enough so it won’t go on

I'm surprised by this. I wonder what area you and the other poster who said similar - @lastcall - are in.

Where I live, everywhere I've been to is quite strict - your phone app checkin is often checked by staff and it you can't use the app you're asked to fill in a form.

Some venues round here have been fined tens of thousands for breaking rules so I think venues are quite compliant perhaps as a result of that. They can't risk losing more income.

RainbowANDThunder · 04/07/2021 23:33

@00100001

Yes, because thats the same thing isnt it? 🙈

nanbread · 04/07/2021 23:34

I'm glad you've decided to isolate OP as you would have been contacted by T&T if you had checked in properly. The venue is at fault for not ensuring you did though.

nanbread · 04/07/2021 23:35

Btw it's possible to have the app but pause tracing. So you can use it to check into places, but avoid unnecessary pings.

whynotwhatknot · 05/07/2021 00:18

thats what i do nan- check in but no tracing

arent they dropping the isolation soon instead saying having a test every day?

I can fully understand why you would want to ignore it yes.

HollaHolla · 05/07/2021 02:16

You could be infectious, and pass it onto your charges - who could have parents/family/household members who remain vulnerable. What if one of them died?
How would you feel then?
Also, if you were my children’s childminder, and I found this out, I think I’d be moving my children, as I would be extremely concerned about your judgements around other safety measures.
Just isolate, FFS.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 05/07/2021 02:21

Even if your vaccinated you can still carry and spread covid.
You just don’t get as sick or be asymptotic.

Sparklingbrook · 05/07/2021 06:18

Also, if you were my children’s childminder, and I found this out

How would that happen? How would you find out?

DeathStare · 05/07/2021 06:25

@Mrstamborineman

I’m shocked almost everyone us told you to ignore and delete. Jesus Mary and Joseph instead of asking mn ask the parents of the children you might infect with covid. !
THIS.

If my child was one you child-minded and I found out you had been asked to self-isolate and didnt, putting those children and their families at risk, I'd be doing everything in my power to have you shut down.

No wonder covid is still rife and people are still dying when there is such selfishness.

Sparklingbrook · 05/07/2021 06:29

I don't think Covid is 'rife' because of thousands of childminders ignoring requests to isolate from an App that is not fit for purpose TBH.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 05/07/2021 06:30

@SummerHouse

Ignore it. Don't tell anyone. Don't start a Mumsnet thread. Grin

TeddingtonTrashbag · 05/07/2021 06:33

@SchrodingersImmigrant

I wonder where all these 'delete the app' Covid-deniers sprang from

People not wanting the app don't have to be covid deniers. I am not a covid deniar, I don't trust the app🤷🏻 Because it's faulty. It's ridiculous system which doesn't work if people genuinely listen to it

This. Amazes me everyone hasn’t switched it off. I am not a covid ‘denier’ - I know it exists as an infectious disease as I’ve had it. It’s preposterous to isolate in your situation-glad your DH is sensible.
TeddingtonTrashbag · 05/07/2021 06:43

I didn’t realise you had to down load an app
You don’t - it just appeared automatically on mine and it was only because a colleague told me about it that I noticed and deleted it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if most of those those places where school year groups are isolating etc are because of pings to phones where people didn’t realise it was on their phone until they were spuriously pinged.

MiddleParking · 05/07/2021 06:57

I’m absolutely loving all the “there would be hell to pay”, “for a start you’d be getting sued”, “I’d do everything in my power to have you shut down” Grin surely to fuck this is not that hard to understand!

Sparklingbrook · 05/07/2021 06:58

I think a childminder getting sued for not obeying an instruction from an App that is not a legal requirement to have would be an interesting case to follow TBF.
