AIBU to ignore the notification?

This morning I woke to find a notification on the NHS app telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid and need to isolate for 8 days. The only place that can have come from is a farm cafe on Thursday, out for lunch with DH, who does not have the app so has not been told to isolate so isn't going to. He's manager of a large pharmacy and they're on skeleton staff already and have been encouraged to delete app by big bosses. I'm a childminder so will be letting down parents if I close. I've had a pcr test this morning and I'm double vaccinated. The app says to isolate even if its negative as I could still develop covid. But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?! But I am usually a stickler for the rules and worry about getting "caught." What do I do?

I am curious about all this 'living hell to pay' and going 'berserk' how are you going to know?

osbertthesyrianhamster · 04/07/2021 21:05

@mam0918

osbertthesyrianhamster - well for a start she would be getting reported and sued.

She willfully endangered people and contrary to what people think even if you delete your app after notification it still tracable and provable.

Reported to whom? It's not a legal requirement. Sued? Yeah, okay.
BitOfANameChange · 04/07/2021 21:07

@HalzTangz

Track and trace is where someone who tested positive gave your name and number because they were in close contact with you. The app uses anonymous Bluetooth and can pick up devices through brick walls (or a neighbour) who you have had no contact with at all
I deleted the app after my NDN was apparently tested positive, and I got a ping from the app. (Was told by another neighbour about them being positive.) I did test to be sure and have had both vaccines.

We live in terraced housing, and the layout does mean there are going to be times we are close enough for the Bluetooth to connect.

I don't talk or interact with these neighbours, and certainly haven't been close enough to catch covid. And the virus doesn't transmit through a brick wall. This is why they can't make isolation enforceable simply by using the app; Bluetooth doesn't take things like walls into account.

Reporting and sueing, too.
Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 21:08

Yes, all the reporting and suing. Over something you don't know anything about. Interesting.

Snowpaw · 04/07/2021 21:10

Why have the app at all if you won’t follow its advice.

warmfluffytowels · 04/07/2021 21:10

@MySharonavirus what's your opinion on people who don't have phones that support the app? Are you going to "give them hell" too? Confused

CopperCloud · 04/07/2021 21:10

The app once told me to isolate for 9 hours. I called 119 and they said the app is just guidance and could be saying I need to isolate cause I walked past someone in the street who had covid.

It's only a legal requirement to isolate if you're contacted by the track and trace team.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/07/2021 21:10

My relative who works in a hospital got pinged and was told to go in as she’s double vaccinated 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Patient facing role too.

I think people got it to scan the QR codes to get into venues not realising it's continually scanning for other phones.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 21:15

@BitOfANameChange friend got pinged in her flat. Which she hasn't left for few days because she had a cold. Apparently neigbour tested positive

Mpsister · 04/07/2021 21:15

Yes, ignore it and put other people at risk. Fabulous idea 😡

When I worked in A+E (left in Jan) we were told to ignore any notifications we got whilst we were at work
Blueskytoday06 · 04/07/2021 21:17

@dementedpixie

So he's been in the house all week and not seen anyone or been anywhere? The app will tell you the date of contact
It doesn't. I've had the same message. I can't see where it tells me date of contact.
dementedpixie · 04/07/2021 21:19

Somewhere in the settings I think. I have the Scottish one so it's slightly different

If your relatives works in a hospital she should turn the app off whilst at work.
MySharonavirus · 04/07/2021 21:26

@warmfluffytowels I never said I would give anyone hell; you're confusing me with another poster :)

But since you're asking, my opinion is that anyone whose phone could have the app, and who doesn't have a valid reason not to have it (e.g. working in a hospital), ought to seriously consider why they haven't got it. They also ought to consider what the implications of that might be for a) other people and b) themselves, in terms of restrictions dragging on longer and longer while we finish off the vaccination programme.

PandemicPalava · 04/07/2021 21:27

I don't blame anyone for deleting and ignoring. I was someone who followed every rule religiously but I can't any more. I cannot stay in my house for 10 days because my neighbour in my skinny terrace tested positive. This happened to me last week and I had been nowhere other than whizzing up to the school in the car twice a day. Neighbour confirmed she had been sitting on her sofa all day the other side of the wall to me.

Just looked in the app settings and it says the app doesn't know who we are and is anonymous so I doubt anyone could enforce any of it.

LST · 04/07/2021 21:27
@LST Yep, and I can't believe those people!
My nan doesn't have a phone. What should she do?

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 04/07/2021 21:28

Ignore and delete the app.

PandemicPalava · 04/07/2021 21:28

I would absolutely isolate if it was a genuine contact with Covid but this app ha so much potential for error and walls between people!

Cheeseandlobster · 04/07/2021 21:29

@moralminority

Of course you should isolate. The kids in your care won't have had the jab and you could be putting them at risk.
This ffs. You are not special Hmm

Hmm…
I think it’s a bit late for that.
Plus, the app would be useful if it worked. Except it doesn’t, as seen by all the examples on this thread. If the app was so reliable, HCP wouldn’t be told to ignore it….

Because it's stupid and doesn't work properly? Because I work from home and barely leave the house anyway. Because I just don't fucking want it. HTH

MySharonavirus · 04/07/2021 21:32

@LST Obviously she can't have the app then - fair enough! Clearly, I'm talking about people who have smartphones and carry them around a lot of the time anyway.
